The Heirloom Seal of the Realm, the original imperial seal, was crafted by the order of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. For a long time, it was the symbol of legitimacy for new emperors who would establish a new dynasty. But it was lost sometime between the 10th to the 14th century CE. Due to its historical, cultural and political significance, it will be the most expensive artifact in the world when found.

Because jade is such a hard medium and doesn't change with age, it is extremely difficult to separate originals from high quality fakes. If there are a number of old fakes in circulation, it's very doubtful that experts could ever agree that the original had been found - especially with so much at stake.

Question: Is the bottom of the seal made of jade as well? With wear and tear of stamping things over the years, even so lightly, the jade would be chipped, unless of course, it was interchangeable made of something else, which would make sense with the passing of dynasties. Original would probably have the last dynasty's seal with it still. Ming dynasty I guess, with the time period it was lost in.

No other treasure in Chinese history can be compared to this jade seal. Sure, if it ever resurface, Chinese gov will certainly try to get it back, either through political pressure or financial mean. And if the gov fail, the pressure to the Chinese gov from the Chinese people will tremendous. It is about the dignity of China, I wouldn't discount war. That seal had been lost since year 938 because an Emperor burned himself and his family with it. The seal was likely destroyed. In 228 BC, The first emperor of China conquered a powerful neighboring kingdom and gained the kingdom’s most treasured jade. The emperor later ordered to make the jade into the heirloom seal to signify his victory and authorities. This piece witnessed the birth of Centralization of Authority in the history of China. It was passed between emperors and dynasties for more than a thousand years. Imagining looking at this thing and realizing that this very thing manifests the power to rule half the world’s population...

@@AndorranStairway Wdym? I'm saying back then. 100s of years ago, whoever held this seal would essentially be on par with the emperor. It had so much cultural significance, and was pretty much treated as an artifact of the heavens. Plus it is made with an extremely precious jade. It's literally the holy grail of china. So... The price might be justified. Can't really say it is because we have not really seen something as significant as this valued before, so there is no basis of comparison. But its definitely worth A LOT. Remember back then having this seal would make you the son of God himself essentially if u think about it in more western terms.

Well that's the big question. Traditionally with the exception of physical damage Jade is well known for retaining it's form very well as many personal seals of individual emperors have been found in damn near prestine condition despite being ancient. @johnnymoreno5065
@johnnymoreno5065 3 года назад
@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective I can answer this very easily since I know three kingdoms history very well. Supposedly how this story goes or depends on anyone I guess. A maid or someone who live in the inner palace who work with the emperor decided to take the seal and plunged herself to the well so that Dong Zhuo doesn't get his hands on it since we know the man might of have imperial ambitions later on. Anyways Sun Jian being the first to arrive there in the ruined capital found the seal on accident cuz he didn't think there be anything left in that city. So they pull it out and he found the seal like that. So how this story goes is that Sun Jian maybe wanted to go back home or give it to Yuan Shu depend on history or the novel point of view. After Sun Jian died I'm guessing the son decided that the seal was better off with Yuan Shu tbh. Besides if anyone have that seal it be a death trap because back in those ancient days possessing that seal was against heaven itself only the emperor should have it no vassals. Afterward Yuan shu declared himself emperor unfortunately he did and got his ass beat completely by everyone. The seal ended up with Cao Cao I'm guessing since there were no detail records who kept that seal afterwards. Maybe China will try to find it but doubt it considering how long it may take

I believe that the very significance of the artifact will in fact prevent the value to be that high, or at least prevent any transaction of such an amount from happening. If the artifact is indeed found and up for bidding, what will most likely happen is China pressuring the return of the artifact, using its cultural and historical significance as the reasons. China isn't one to shy from displaying its military prowess nor their self-righteousness, be it valid or not. This is especially so when their pride is on the line. It is also unlikely for the US to provide any monetary aid for Taiwan to outbid China since the artifact is unlikely to legitimatize Taiwan as its own country any more than how it is now, especially not to China. In fact, if Taiwan does get the artifact, the tension between the two sides is more likely to worsen.
