@Andy D.....Rikers is a jail and most jails hold those awaiting trial and/or sentencing, like most cities. No matter the crime, you will end up there until your case is settled, one way or the other.....SO.....to say sending someone there for a non violent crime means nothing to law enforcement officials since they have no choice... If l shoot someone and are arrested, and you get caught burglarizing a home the same day, we will both end up at Rikers... You the burglar, feel you shouldn't be housed with a shooter, fine....don't do the CRIME. Jeffrey Dahmer was in jail with druggies, burglars, DWI'S, car thieves and others...same goes for Ted Bundy and Charles Manson. Inmates don't sweat what crime you're in for...they only sweat their crime. You know the saying, "don't do the crime, if you can't do the time."
All ANY of us can say is, "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time," BUT I feel the plight of a lot of these guys being in the legal field myself, so I pray that these brothers can find a positive way and stay away from prison by getting some help.
Imagine making judgements based on a few moments in a youtube clip. For all we know he could've been on parole for armed robbery and went and did it again. And who knows what he did in general population to get him in the box. We dont know the whole story
I'm not saying most inmates are innocent but there are quite a bit of innocent people who end up in jail. They took my sweet kindergarten teacher sister in law to jail because they had a glick in the system that said she didn't pay a ticket that she PAID! The truth is a lot of these gaurds treat the prisoners terribly.
She went to jail but a lot of innocent people end up in prison too. Especially people who can't afford a good lawyer. This comment specifically says jail. On the flip side there are also people who should have been convicted but get off.
If he is a murderer or a rapist or abuser then he deserves it other than that... nope as long as you don't hurt others I believe you could be corrected
@jessicagard8636 it's a year later but I frickin agree so much. It's aggravating, frustrating and despicable that murderers like Nick and the most heinous offenders don't face what they should and yet the people here go through all of this. Shameful, wrong, imbalanced.

Some will clearly have behavioural issues that they probably dont know about, like adhd, or bipolar / multiple personality disorder. Some perhaps drug users on the outside and havent had a fix on the inside and some probably waiting on a fix. So many reasons. Nothing about it is funny, but nor were some of their crimes.
Noises in prisons are the worst and nothing to do would make it crazier I wish they had some kind of work to do. Something to engage them. I would also like instrumental. Music. Honestly I think it's great what he's trying to do with solitary confinement. I also understand the issues people have with it. It's a very fine line both ways. But it does make sense to try to give people hope and rehabilitation. I know what isolation does to my mental health so I can't imagine if I was someone that struggled with aggression and anger by using violence and having someone lock me up in solitary confinement with those type of thoughts and not having any kind of Hope or help. You're literally creating a more dangerous monster than they were prior. We all make our choices but when you treat someone like an animal that's what you're going to get. I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of negative feedback on what I'm saying but I'm just trying to see this from my own experiences. I've had run into with the law for different reasons. I struggled with drugs and alcohol and got arrested a few times and I witnessed firsthand what solitary confinement did to people I knew. It changes a person and darkens their minds. The devil can have his way with you even more when you're alone in a dark place

This is so sad. I did 4 years in prison. In Kansas. They refer to it as candy land because although any time behind those walls is hell, it's easy when compared to doing time anywhere else. I couldn't imagine doing time in a place like rikers Island. And I know there's people in there that absolutely deserve to be there. But then there's the ones who don't deserve it. Prison isn't for everyone. It really isn't. Even if you are considered a criminal or have committed crimes, prison doesn't help everyone. Some of those people need a different kind of help. Prison is only going to cause them more problems that could be avoided.

Tony Rbinson. absolutely. that should be MANDATED in all 'lock-up' institutions. Mixing people that have no violent offenses with the violent only creates more victims of violence, and turns the non-violent, VIOLENT.
How horrific and what an injustice this is to normal people. It’s obvious most have serious mental issues, then you treat them like animals then you release them. Who is really more wicked? 2022 and we still don’t know what to do?
If you can't find gratitude from your freedom - from the small things taken for granted like family, good food, and peace of home after your release - it isn't mental illness, it's a lack of gratitude and a victim mentality. Prison reform is necessary, but you have to understand - they aren't "treated like animals", the fact is : THEY ACT LIKE ANIMALS. And that is absolutely unjust and horrific for normal people to have to put up with.

Thats why you shouldnt do crimes. Prison isnt nice. In the old days they never threw piss and feces at officers because a bunch of officers would give them a hiding they will never forget. Today we're too soft and make too many excuses.
The current prison system just feeds people's anger.. It doesn't rehabilitate them at all. America as a whole is fucked up beyond repair. Not until the current old people ruling our government get replaced.

Sasquatch Models that’s great! but many people will not get hired after being incarcerated. many people may not have the correct social or financial supports to steer them out of bad doings, which usually leads them back into jail. plus ssssooooo many more things. just because you didn’t experience that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. and if there’s more than one person saying it, it’s not the person, it’s the system. i’ve never been to jail but it seems like he was totally complacent with being in jail. which would be a “positive attitude.”
Chaze Seaberry korey wise is pretty famous, he was coerced into “confessing” to a crime he didn’t commit, and was sent to rivers at 16 years. kalief was also sent there for a crime he didn’t commit.
