Great and informative video! One thing I don't agree with however is the gash in the air-box mount. An air leak in the air-box mount (or anywhere before the carburetor) would not cause an engine to run lean. An air leak anywhere after the carburetor WILL cause the engine to run leaner however. Still would want to get that replaced though... that would be a great place for unfiltered air to enter.
I agree with you, however, when people over torque those two allen screws they ofter crack the spacer right in front of the reeds, which is where the excess air gets into the engine and burns it up. I can't always explain everything on the fly when making these videos. I need someone to actually film for me to do a true step by step rebuild. Cheers, Brian
Thanks for the video! I'm trying to learn as much as I can about these engines and this is very helpful. When I first got into PPG I had no idea I would have to learn to become a mechanic after I learned to fly...
Excellent tidbits of knowledge here. I am saving up for training and equipment and plan on getting new or lightly used first owner equipment. In talking to some locals there was a shared idea that these motors are only good for 150 hours and that rebuilding is often not worth the cost and effort. After watching this video it seems rebuilding is totally worth it, if done by someone who knows what they're doing and uses OEM parts.
This is by far the best vitorazi moster maintenance video there is. When I took mine apart the first time it looks like the previous owner dropped a BB into the engine, it was wrecked. This video has helpeed me so much. The official videos don't even talk, they just have loud annoying music.
great video, thanks. Will you be doing one on splitting the crank? I have an oil leak from the crankcase & may have to split the crank & replace gasket
hey is that number still good just got this motor and itn would be nice to have someone who knows what there talking about if i ever have to work on it and when i do maintenance
Man I don't understand people doing hack jobs on this stuff your leaving the ground your life is in the hands of this thing to a point do it right save your self the money and down time you want to be in the sky not in your motor....Dont get it...
HMM IAM FROM A MX .AND I KNOW HOW TO REBUILD A RACE ENGINE.= I KNOW HOW TO FIX A ENGINE. THESE PEOPLE LIKE YOU MENTIONED HAVE NO CLUE TO FIX A ENGINE.BUT TO SAVE MONEY THEY HACK!= LIVE AND LEARN. OR THERE HAVING MONIES ISSUES FOR WHICH WE CAN HAVE. JUST THOUGHT ILL EXPLAIN IN BETTER...... E.G SMALL.BIG END. PISTON CIRCLIPS.AND BARREL... NO MENTION OF CLEANING OUT ANY FRAGMENTS INSIDE THE CRANK OF THE ENGINE? "I GET IT SOME DONT"
This is just part one of a 2 part video and only covers the break down of the motor. Part 2 will show the cleaning, lubrication, and rebuild. If you can explain better, then do your own video. Why are you watching this type of video, if you already know how to rebuild engines. If you can't afford to fly then it's safer to stay on the ground. This is not a car you pull off the road. Good luck
You don't take shortcuts in aviation you cant afford to play stay on the ground...... you will pay for it one day in a bad way its just tic tock tick tock i love to save money just as much as the next guy but thats not the place to do it the one time you get in a pinch and need that motor to be there for you thats when your shortcut will bight you in the a$$...As a skydiver to there are no shortcuts your lift is in your hands and your equipment is your only lifeline no one else's its your choice but not something i recommend..
