The bike has fresh oil, since gas had contaminated the oil due to a faulty petcock... where a damaged valve allowed prime setting to ... seep gas past the carbs and into the cylinder and oil... On the previous Saturday, oil dripping from the bike ended the day outing, and later I found the oll level was higher than normal... and it smelled of gas. Draining the oil tank and crank case revealed plenty of gas, mostly accumulated in the lower, crankcase. I replaced the petcock valve and tested the petcock... all seems normal. On this trip though, the speedometer makes intermittent screechy whirring noises... and the tail running light was found to be burnt out. Otherwise the day went well, perhaps a bit too much for the dog by the end of the day.
