This old Maple Custom kit sounds so good! It's pretty wild how those Evans Onyx heads can make a drum sound a few inches larger in diameter too. Makes my little Ludwig Downbeat Classic Maple kit sound like a Bonham kit. hahaha

We don't have that kit anymore :), but conceptually it's the same method for tuning the floor tom. You can try lowering the bottom head and see if that helps.
Jon, For jazz (some bop), fusion, funk, and blues, if you had to choose between Sake Trilogy 4-piece (pre-Korg) bop config or Yamaha MC in 3 piece bop config for $1k more, which would you choose?
It's really about how much you want to spend. The MC will be a little more "versatile" but the trilogy will get the job done amazingly as well. The maples will cut a bit harder, thicker shells and all.
