Awesome video Lance. I understand we’re you come from I’m in the same vote is you. But if you love cross country MtB Racing and yes it’s definitely the others would be really keen on it. Definitely beautiful country etc to look at it . I’m glad you both got your self a medal out of it. Looks like you both are having a amazing time down in the South Island looking forward to seeing your next adventure
I’m with you on your view of the Mototap mate, I guess that’s why I haven’t done it… maybe I will maybe I won’t, one day… but hey, next time you’re down maybe we should do the Coronet Loop which has much much more single track and even more battery management required. Cross those rivers mate! That Bosch motor is a sealed unit! 😅
Great video, huge thanks Lance. I love cross country riding so this would be right up my alley apart from the racing bit and carrying all that gear (I'm 70).
Bet you were glad for the ebike on those endless pedally bits. Done a similar style event with my wife (she rode the XC course), while I went off the menu and rode the actual nearby mountain bike trail network to meet her at the finish. Had I rode the race course, it would have been an elephant train…..
Neat bit of country to ride through alright. Your clothes would have been out of fashion by the time you got to the bottom if you had fallen off a couple of those cliffs
I think the fun comes from pedalling a normal bike and enjoying the scenery . Once you’re on the ebike, it can be boring as the motor does the work for you . That’s what I’ve experienced from doing more scenic trails anyway
I guess everyone enjoys different things. I personally enjoy the scenery so much more on the e bike. I love doing scenic rides on it. I really enjoyed the scenery on this ride and was never bored. I did find the track itself boring. If I went for a scenic ride on a tarmac road, I would still enjoy the experience but would not call it a mountain bike ride. This was effectively a gravel road. Again, I'm not sure I would call it mountain biking.
Nice vid. Ive done it twice, took me 5 years to get over the trauma the first time 😂. Second time made me upgrade to a full sus immediatly after. Its a great ride apart from the kinda silly excessive gear list. A must do XC in NZ but not one thats an appealing redo i guess
I am glad to have done it but it is a once only ride for me. The gear list is an interesting one. On one hand you are in a remote location but at the same time surrounded by hundreds of people. I must admit taking the cushcore off and putting a tube in, is definitely a last resort. I am more likely to cycle on a flat tire and get a new one at the end if I can't seal the hole.
Yeah I think I would agree especially considering your normal rides, but hey at least you can tick if off the list. Thanks again, always nice to ride along with you.
I guess the thing is, this is not a mountain bike track. It is an access road that is opened up once a year for people to ride. It is really cool to get to see this country side and I was grateful for that opportunity. It is however a road and not a mountain bike track. I don't know if any other track options could have been incorporated into this ride.
Another pay-to-access-private-property event, interesting. Your wife may like the Bald rock run in Kaiwaka, it was about 2 weeks ago [it's called Top of the Rock] it's on private land now, once a year they open it up for the great unwashed 🧐
Lance wise to not ride the deeper river crossings, I found out my KTM EMTB doesnt like deep water the hard way after a XC race with river crossings, New G4 motor bearing kit required soon after. Ka ching Ka ching
I'm sorry to hear that. Yes, mixed advice from people on this one. Many in the bike industry say the motor can handle it, but at the same time, water ingress failures do occur.
