Asian culture plays a big part, that's why she doesn't stand up to her mom and why her mom is so controlling.

@@MrsLadyPerez That doesn't matter. Paying for the dress is a gift to her daughter; you don't lord over gifts and make people miserable. The bride was clearly, and very obviously stricken and beaten down by her mother and for mom not to care about that is appalling. It's cold and self centred. She says she wants to make her daughter happy, but she's beaten her down over 30+ dresses. Buying a wedding dress should be fun and mom ruined it completely.

I think cultural background varies As Asians we are mostly brought up listening to our parents especially moms! We rely and sometimes even if it breaks our heart we listen to them! Nd most of the time out of their experiences with life they are right! We usually 80% of the time don't stand up for our opinions! The rest 20% will be mostly a mutual agreement but standing up and what "we" call it raising our voices rarely happens ND somehow we are OK with it!

I made a mistake. I did not hear her on the first viewing....she DOES say all inclusive, kind of muttered under her breath. Still and all, hmmmm love......or.....money................hmmmmmm

@@muchtested Nonsense. Buying the dress is a gift to her daughter. This is unreasonable and abusive. She's been doing this for how long? 30+ dresses; she has dragged her daughter down and has ruined what should be a joyful time.

I don’t think it was about the money. Her mother wanted to find fault. First it was the bow, so they removed the bow, then she didn’t like the price, so they dropped the price... she simply didn’t want to get the dress, for whatever ulterior motives she might have, so she found reason to not get it. And sadly her daughter hasn’t detached herself enough yet to just say: I’m just going to get it myself then. She sounds like a child when she asks if she “can get it”. She also said pretty clearly that her relationship with her mother is very complicated and her self-esteem has been severely undermined. Hopefully she’s marrying a lovely husband who will let her grow into her own person.

Mum is in control of much more than the bride's money. She's in control of the bride's entire life.

The young girl WAS paying for the dress. She just lets her mom control her money for her.

She does not come back and is happily married with a great relationship with her mother. This is dramatized. Pathetic editing and shame on the show!

She DID bargain. She got a bargain on the dress, on the veil and on the adjustments; for a total of 10% off.....THEN she said she wanted taxes included. They could have offered 4 or 5% off, and said, taxes included, maybe that would have worked? Probably not, that mother seemed determined to leave without a dress. Maybe this is the most time she's spent with her daughter for a long time and doesn't want it to end. Still selfish, but kind of human, too.

In some cultures, it's all about haggling. Part of the game.

@@SkyyPiano - It's easy to look into a culture and say- that is so wrong, they need to … but it's not unheard for Asian-Americans to have a mother in complete control. One of the issues I see though, is that the mother does believes she's doing her daughter a favor- and is serving in the daughter's best interest but such control is hard to let go. Her daughter is going to have to either take over or hand the control over to her husband and the mother will be expected to let it go.. so she may never find the right dress- because she kept adding to what needed to be knocked off. So unless the rest of them, in front of the mother, bride, and sellers offer to pay for the tax and maybe add the veil to be a step ahead- the mother will be staunch on it.

Mairi dude I know, I’m Asian myself lol. I stand up to my mother though. I don’t let her control everything, because frankly, it drives me nuts.
