I got some cocoons of the Atlas Moth (Attacus lorquinii) and waited patiently until the moths hatched. You can see the result in this video! Have fun watching!

At the moment I take a break from animation pursuing other creative projects. In the meantime I discovered a new hobby, I wanted to share with you: Breeding and keeping moths as pets! More videos will follow with my experiences and tips! What do you think of moths? Please comment below!

I love moth rather than butterflies. I think they're just awesome. Thanks for sharing this video. I think I wanna try my self

I feel the same way! It's great that you want to give it a try, too! I started with the cocoons because it's the easiest stage :) The moths don't need any more food. In the meantime, I've also started rearing caterpillars. I started with a beginner-friendly species. The Atlas moth caterpillars are probably more suitable for more advanced reapers, as you have to pay attention to a few things when rearing them 🙂 Maybe some day I try raising them!

Kinda sad that such beautiful creatures only live for that short amount of a time

Yes, you're right. It's very short and sad! There are moth species that live for a few weeks and can still feed at this stage. It helps me to accept their short life span, that their longest phase of life is as a caterpillar. :)

Im such a nerd, but im going to say it anyway. ATLAS IS A CHARACTERS NAME IN WINGS OF FIRE!!! She’s a peach (and a few other colours) Butterfly dragon (which is a SilkWing) and she’s seems pretty cool. She’s just a background character but I still like her a lot!

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! 🤗 Then I'm a nerd too! My favorite book series is Warrior Cats! Have you read some of them? And I've read the first books of Wings of Fire as well as the comics! 😃 That sounds like a great character with the Silk wings! I imagine it would be really pretty!

how do you get them on your hand without them flying away? i did the wrong way shown in the video when i first found these moths and it took me over 40 minutes trying to get it lol

I'm sorry to hear that! That's a real challenge! 😅 In theory, you touch them carefully on the head with your finger and they climb onto your hand by themselves!Your own movements must be carried out very calmly and slowly so that they do not feel disturbed! My experience is that it doesn't work with every moth! My first male was easy to get onto my hand. He was relaxed in nature! The second male, on the other hand, was very reactive. As soon as I touched him, he started to warm up his flight muscles! 🙈 Timing is also crucial. Late in the evening they are already too active and want to fly! I wanted to leave them alone during the day as they are nocturnal. I tried it in the early evening and that's when it worked best for me! 😊 Some moth species are much calmer than the Atlas moths! For example the Eri silk moth! It takes some practice and it doesn't always work! To summarize: It depends on your movements, the timing, the temperament of the particular moth and the moth subspecies!! :) I hope I was able to help you!
