On this episode, I talk about scaling in the twincat NC system, so our encoder pulses can reflect real world units!

HeySquishy Thanks. Im not clear how you actually attached physically to the 3d printer. I guess maybe just plug in the ethernet network cable? Anyway cool

Hello Evan, Thank you in advance, this series is being fantastic to me. I'm having a minor issue though, i have a servo connected to an AX5103 (no encoder, just OCT) and when i try to jog it "online", after 3 complete rotations it "jumps" a bit and then goes back to same position and continues the movement. Let's say my setpoint is 10.000 degrees, after each 1080 it has a little "jump", the encoder value resets to 0 and it keeps going until it reaches the sepoint. I might not have explained it correctly but i hope you get the idea. Any idea what is wrong with it?

So, its a OCT servo with no encoder? If that is the case... NC must have an encoder, but it doesn't have to be a physical one, it will simulate one based on commanded power of what it expects. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it seems like your modulo or encoder mask is incorrect. Check those settings in the NC config, but honestly if you bought all that beckhoff stuff, just pick up the phone and call the support number for your region, and ask for a webex session with a support engineer, they should be able to fix you right up. People have lots of problems with random brands of EtherCAT drives, but if its beckhoff to beckhoff, you really deserve proper support from beckhoff :) So, I'm all about learning it, but a lot of the stuff I know these days, I never would have realized if support didn't point it out at some point along the way to myself or a co worker, etc. Good luck! Glad you liked the series.

@@SquishyBrained It was the encoder mask, thanks a lot! I sent you an e-mail about another subject. Hopefully we can establish communication.

Tiago Soares hello can you show more detail on encode mask reason? As you said you did not have the hareware encoder so you adviced to use simulator and son why still need set this encode mask parameter and how that do what?
