That last tip is key as a beginner! So many times I've not fancied it, got out the door and 9/10 they've been my most productive, beat runs and they leave you with a feeling of achievement

Always appreciate your analytical takes on all things running. Down here in Monument I would enjoy a vid on trail running in snow as far as workouts, gear, etc.

i’ve always been a “runner” since i was 12 but i’ve never actually trained consistently or tried to be fast. im 16 now and i feel like time is running out so i just started proper training after 1 or 2 years of hardly anything. it’s hard to know for me whether i should consider myself a beginner or not since i have some experience i just took a super long break but hopefully i can get back to where i was quickly 😅

I wish I had a treadmill. I live on your side of town and every day is hill day. It's hard to get flat speed work in around the foothills.

It's hard to be motivated as I get older and simply can't run as fast as I used to be able to

If I’m increasing my miles from 30 to 50 miles I will do by the 10% rule but will I need to take a down week every 4 weeks and what would the down week look like?
@Vo2maxProductions
@Vo2maxProductions Год назад
First off I don't follow the "10% rule " exactly (see my video on that), but it could be like 5 mile drop on the down week. So like 30, 33, 35, 30.....36, 40, 38, 35.....38, 40, 43, 38....40, 44, 46, 41....45, 48, 50 etc...that kind of pattern. The bigger injury risk is relative intensity of miles and other things (lack of sleep, stress, your shoes and running surfaces etc) rather than the exact mileage number.

Interesting, I hadn’t thought about it this way before.

I've taken a two week break from running and I'm not sure what milage I should restart at. I'm used to running 40mpw and I ran 23 mpw during my post cross country training period. Should I restart my milage at 15 mpw, 20 mpw, 25mpw? My goal is to climb to around 50 during track season.

Did you ever take some 0 mileage weeks (pure rest weeks) after cross country season.....or did you only drop the mileage down to 23 miles? If starting from 0, I'd go with 15 only. Are we talking about outdoor track season in the spring (or is there an indoor track season this winter?)?
@thebld8100
@thebld8100 Год назад
@Vo2maxProductions There is indoor season for me and I took 2 weeks of 0 milage with some basic strength movements.

Cant afford a treadmill. Have to make an effort just to get to one. But better than running on ice in the dark even if the icy road is free. 👍

yeah they are expensive. We never had space for one in our apartment in Boulder so eventually we got a gym membership (which can also be expensive). Before that I'd go around town sometimes and get a "day pass" at different gyms or try to get a "free trial day" just to use a treadmill if it was super snowy or something and I needed to do a specific kind of workout with good traction.

Some companies offer financing with very little interest. I had to break down and do that with Proform. Really good machine but I'm in for $50 a month next 2 years.

Some running stores or clubs may also offer treadmill rentals but the gym is the cheapest option for me. Good luck in your search!
