Was thinking the same last year, and I’m now solely a motoGP fan. So much better than f1

That’s really cool about the asymmetric compounds. Something you wouldn’t have guessed but makes total sense. Thanks for mentioning this!

Thanks! Im an indycar and f1 fan and motorcycle racing has always facinated me and i wanna get into it. I wonder how it differs exactly from the 4 wheelers. Like im pretty sure they only race on road courses bc anything else would be too dangerous

Hoping to get into it this year. This is going to be really useful thank you! I have a few questions If you don’t mind. I read recently that Factory teams are selling the same units they use each season and not last years (which is still done with engine manufacturers in F1🙄) - in order to keep the grid/field closer in completion; is there not still a pronounced gap between teams given there is 3 Ducati teams all running the same bikes? Suggesting that Independent teams have seen the benefit in leasing for Ducati; that why there being three of them? Also (since being new) is there as stringent regs for aero and engineering in this sport as F1? (This is my only baseline so apologies if it’s looked down apon from two wheels) because in some of the pictures I’ve seen all the bikes seem to have very similar aero. Is that juts convergence over a prolonged reg stagnation? Or are they very closely regulated? A video from 2021 on the official MotoGP Yt channel mentioned only the 1000cc and 4 cylinders and a single CPU are ‘the only regulations and all else is fair game‘. How true is this statement? Lastly (and sorry for the long questions) I play to watch this via BT sport but haven’t committed. Is there a viewing platform that’s considered the best for seeing all parts from Testing to FP’s to Q’s Sprint Races and the Gp’s? (In your opinion). Many thanks!

The Factory teams do somtines lease the same bikes they use, last year was a good example, Luca Marini in the VR46 team ran the latest bikes but whilst Marco Bezzechi on the other side of the garage ran the 2021 bike. This year Ducati seem to have put a stop to that letting only the Pramac team and their Factory team run the latest machine whilst the other two satallites are running the 22 bike. There may be a bit more of a gap between the teams running the old bike and the new ones, but those on the older bike still find it easy enough to collect podiums, poles etc so the gap is very small and can often be made up by good a good rider. The independents have seen the benefit of running the Ducati so yes thats why there are 3 satallites. The aero has been converging over time, I would say that MotoGP is less strict on aero than F1 even before F1s new aero regs. The rule is that the front aero cannot petrude more than a certain amount and all the wings must be a biplane design hence why all the wings have holes in the middle even if there is almost no space between them. It's measured with this weird cover that the stewards put over the front of the bikes to check the wings aernt too wide at the measuring points. The engines do have restrictions, such as a maximum bore of 81mm. They have to be 1000cc and all run the same ECU (Magnetti Marelli). There will be plenty of other rules around the engines, but unlike F1 no specific configuration is required so inline, Vs boxer all would be allowed as long as they are naturally aspirated. I think that, as with the aero rules, the engine rules are likely less restrictive than F1. Finally, being from NZ the only place that I can watch is with MotoGP Videopass which is good but a quite expensive. Sadly I don't know much about the other viewing platforms so can't recommend one.

@@TheGravelTrap thank you so much this video and your comment has been extremely useful! Regarding satellite teams, I really like the ideas about the benefits. Watched the first episode of There Can only Be one and it makes so much sense in terms of being able to collect more data about your designs if you allow more riders with varied tyre preferences and ridding styles to feed back information about it. Wish those benefits were saw in F1. People only want to see closer racing. It’s a shame the teams are incentivised by not having close racing and winding prize sums. If the payment of the viewers went to the teams and not the governing bodies / whole sport then we’d likely see better closer races in both sports. That being said I’m very much looking forward to the closer racing and varied podiums ive heard so much about in Moro GP. Regarding Bezzechi, how can a driver in the same satelite team have a newer bike? To me this is like Nico Hulkenburg of Haas F1 having the ferrari 2023 engined but the other Haas driven by Kevin Magnesun only having the 2022 Ferrari engine? Thank you about explaining the regs that’s very interesting. Finally, not to worry I have managed to find some information from some UK viewers. Apparently - although all of it is expensive - the Viewpass thing is cheaper than BT coverage. Likely going to go for that since it is straight from the horses mouth more of less. Many thanks again. Your are perfect for a newbie like me!

Super helpful. One thing I'm still not sure of is what's the best way to watch races? I can catch the most recent race (no sprint, qualifying, or practice) on NBC sports in the US, and they have decent highlights on youtube. But I really want the Motogp videopass thing, but it's too expensive when I'm just dipping my toes in. Are there any other options to watch practice, qualifying, and sprints on demand?

Sadly I don't know much about where to stream MotoGP outside of Videopass. your right the pass is stupidly expensive but that's the way I have to watch in NZ and I haven't found any good alternatives. They do have a free trial I think?
