I'm not a fan of these rule changes, but heck, they're a million times better than F1 changes have been. I'm saddened knowing that the remaining years i have to watch F1 is not limited by my age, but limited by the number of years until rule changes make it unappealing.

I was hoping for a big simplification on aerodynamics, but the narrower box will have to do. Also, reducing bore might make inline 4 more competitive againgst the V4s!

Dorna said they wanted more road bike "association" but 850cc is not a engine volume that really have been widely used on road bikes or in racing before, why not just go down to 750cc... big mistake just get it down to 750cc as it is an engine volume in motorcycle racing with lots of racing pedigree.

@KepleroGT
@KepleroGT 4 месяца назад
Yeah, they say the risk of crashes is due to the high speed but that's not true. The majority of crashes happen in the cornering phase because they can't feel the front tyre slipping
@haryosoo
@haryosoo 4 месяца назад
@@KepleroGT this had happened in the 800cc era; reduced power allowed the riders to have higher cornering speed. The faster bikes make their time on acceleration and braking phase, while the slower bikes have higher lowest cornering speed (I remembered when the 125cc bikes on average have up to 10 kph higher corner apex speed than the 500cc bikes). The aero bits and pieces also don't help in reducing cornering speed; 2016 was one time when winglets were banned, then Yamaha found a loophole to hide their winglets inside the body, and finally Ducati went absolute bonkers with their own aero development until MotoGP kinda gave up to make any significant restrictions. I can only hope that no rider's life or career be lost by this kind of complacency.

@Rex_Payne
@Rex_Payne 4 месяца назад
The GPS data availability is definitely a good move. Reasonable reduction of the aero package is also probably a good thing, except for rear homologation thing. Reduction of the fuel tank is OK, I guess. But downsizing the engines is entirely wrong decision! The last time the MotoGP did that they failed, and had to revert back. And this was back in the days of the peak popularity of the liter sportbikes. Nowadays one liter engine capacity considered to be too small by the byers - they prefer bigger engines. That's why Ducati and Aprilia are selling 1100 cc sportbikes, and these are considered the best sportbikes currently on the market. KTM just upsized their top naked bike to 1349 cc from 1301 cc. Even adventure bikes has 1300 cc now. The entire motorcycle market are shifting towards bigger and more powerful engines - because that's what buyers of the high-end bikes wants. Meanwhile, MotoGP decided to go exactly the opposite way. That's clearly a wrong decision. FIA wanted to make MotoGP bikes less powerful and slower? They could have easily achive this by decreasing max availible rpm (which would decrease fuel consumption as well), and making the bikes to switch from the RON 102 race fuel to the standard RON 100 or RON 98 pump gas. They could have also decrease max bore, and ban pneumatic valves. As you can see, there is a lot of ways of decreasing power without downsizing engines displacement. But FIA chose none of them. What a shame! And by the way, trying to make racing slower is a wrong move in the first place. Going against natural technical progress is always wrong.

@@AugustoRallo Not my point, but you have to look at casual viewers, people look at an F1 car and say yeah that is mad fast must be a top category. They look at Hypercars and say the same. But WSBK has alien looking bikes now and I don't think we are far from having more MotoGP tech trickle down to road bikes to make the wsbk bikes look more alien, and then we have the dilemma of: "both look alien but one has a bigger engine....must be faster i guess." Don't get me wrong I don't care about what is what as long as we get good racing but liberty now owns motogp and wsbk and therefore will take the casual fans and the spectacle bullshit they do in f1 into those other categories

Just reduce engines per season from seven to two.
