Kazunori Yamauchi has assembled a small team to create Motor Toon GP 1 and 2, to understand how racing games work and experiment with different features that will later be added for the development of Gran Turismo.

A kart racing game from the makers of the Gran Turismo series before GT was released. And it's pretty decent. Plenty of unlockable content and good graphics for the time. Good thing it's on the PS3 Store because the prices for an original PS1 copy are higher than it should be.

Polyphony should release some of the Motor Toon cars as DLC for GT7

It would be pretty cool if this was remade for the PS5, even if it isn't made by Polyphony. Just as long as its someone who knows what they're actually doing.

The first game by Polyphony Digital (from the Gran Turismo series) I can name only 2 other games developed by them that there weren't Gtan Turismo, Omega Boost for Ps1 and Tourist Trophy for Ps2.

IMO the best kart racer ever made. The only one where they tried to have a physics engine that makes some sense, and navigating through the tracks feel rewarding as a result. Not surprising since this is running on what seems to be a slightly more arcady, early version of Gran Turismo engine. Playing on various difficulty modes will unlock extra things like differently themed, reverse tracks, 3 more vehicles, and 3 minigames. The final one, Motor Toon GP R (unlocked by beating the game in highest difficulty, expert) is essentially Gran Turismo Prologue.
