Back when Chevy was innovative. I remember my dad brought this truck home when I was in kindergarten in 1999 and was railing on about the 5.3 being a corvette engine. Now it's my truck with 237k miles on it.

Had my 1996 with 5.7R motor took it to 577k on every original power train item, replaced it with a 2000 Z71 with 5.3, took it to 475k under the same conditions. Still have a 2002 with 5.3 with 350K, runs excellent. Who knew when this video was made how good the LS engine would be? Almost unbelievable!

Two weeks ago I bought a 2002 short box, with an extended cab, 4WD and the 4.8 engine. It has 280K miles on it but I swear it runs like friggin' sewing machine. Also has a receiver hitch and a spray in bed liner. It needs a brake line and some detailing. There is rust in the usual places (rocker panels) but the frame is 100%. A couple of small dents, dings, and scrapes, but nothing terrible. Paid $1200.00 for it, I swear on my mothers eyes. I'm still looking for the ticking time bomb that would explain the crazy low price. I haven't found it yet.

In a lot of ways I like this gen Chevy truck better than the 2007-2013 generation. The dash doesn't crack like the 07-13 trucks. These trucks have more reliable engines, the 07-13 trucks had all kinds of expensive issues with the displacement on demand system(which if you got a tune and made it run on all 8 cylinders, all those issues went away). Yes the 07-13 trucks might have looked a bit nicer, fit/finish, body gaps were better, but as far as just being reliable/durable/cheap to own they were a definite step backwards IMO.
@claytonwhitacre1335
@claytonwhitacre1335 5 лет назад
Aaron Bays The 99-02 trucks looked a lot better as well. Always loved the lines of the early GMT800’s.
@claytonwhitacre1335
@claytonwhitacre1335 5 лет назад
Aaron Bays Rust was a real issue on these trucks though.
@aaronbays4
@aaronbays4 5 лет назад
Sorry to add on, but that last part about being reliable/durable/cheap to own/cheap to fix, that is IMO the core mission of a pickup truck. Toyota still owns the crown in that category, despite the domestic offerings giving you more power, better fuel economy, nicer interiors, more features, the Toyotas still have that durability/ruggedness/cheap to own factor figured out better than anybody else.
@aaronbays4
@aaronbays4 5 лет назад
@@claytonwhitacre1335 Trucks don't rust where I live in the south. Might have a different opinion on this gen Chevys and Toyotas if that were the case, but where I live they run forever with minimal repairs/$$$$ thrown at them.
@103realtree2
@103realtree2 4 года назад
I believe the 07-13s are that way because of the economy of the time and the bankruptcy they faced. They defintley cheaped out horribly on the interior and body materials.

I actually feel the same way...i have sat in the back of the 1999-2006 ext cab models and I too feel like the rear bench seat of my 1992 ext cab model has more room....I think it probably has to do with the design of the rear bench seat, in the older models the bench seat is more simple in design and with that comes more usable seating space, where the newer models have a rear bench seat design that cuts out the form of 3 seats, which makes it have less seating space...….all i know is that my 2 daughters have rooms to spear back there in my 1992 c1500 ext cab, actually both of them could lay their whole bodies down like if they were in a bed and they can sleep very comfortable whenever we go on long trips, but then again they are 6 and 7 years old...but regardless like i said, i myself have sat in the back of my truck and the new trucks and for some reason my trucks rear bench seems more roomy.

@@TH3C001 I've got a 96 and a 2000. Newer ones definitely have a slight bit more room, but they do feel a little smaller at times. The seats are a bit thicker with the integrated seatbelts and creature comforts. I'm gonna put the center console out of the NBS in my OBS. These two are definitely Chevy's best. Mine was in my family for 20 years and never left us stranded once. They are the most reliable chevys. And one of the all time most reliable trucks really.

I have a 2002 1500HD 6.0 250000 on the clock and just to night on my way home from work I got on it will still smoke the tires I tell people all the time 250 on the clock and it still runs better than a new Ford

The top trim at $35k in 1999 is $53k in today's money. bang on with what luxury trucks cost today. So based on this, trucks haven't gotten more expensive.

1:15 Meadow green, the same color as my 1999 Silverado LS extended cab 2wd albiet a 2 tone over pewter bottom that I bought new in april 1999. It has the 5.3 V8 and only has 116,000 miles and has been a phenomenal truck minus the typical GM rattles especially in that hollow dash.

Meadow Green Metallic! The best color to ever adorn a truck. I too have a 1999 Silverado Z71 Extended Cab in Meadow Green that I bought new...Still have it in my garage in pristine condition..

If people in 1999 thought their new Silverado got uglier, they should see how ugly the 2021 Silverado is and consider themselves lucky

I still have my 2001 that bought new. 167000. They ruined it with horrible 2003 front end change.These new silverados look like an older model Toyota and the 2022 Toyota looks more like chevy.

This might be a silly question but.. Is there any difference in the 4.8 engines in the 99 to 06 years?? main reason im asking this is because ive watched a couple different videos like this but in one video it says that the engine creates 270hp, the other video said 285hp and this one says 255

The 2003-2007 Silverado is pretty fucked up because the interior was drastically redesigned again the instrumental cluster and panel is too modern and it doesn't even resemble the 1995-98 Chevy Silverado With the theftlock AM FM Radio. If u take a closer look at the steering wheel found on the 1999-2002 Silverado the steering wheel resembles the steering wheel found on the 1997-1998 half ton 1500 Chevy trucks and on the 1999-2000 GMT400 C/K 2500 AND C/K 3500 SILVERADO TRUCKS.

I remember My dad taking 12 year old me to go pick up his Brand new fully loaded 1998 K1500 step-side Silverado Z71 Dark Copper Metallic. It was at a discount as the New 1999 Silverado was on it’s way. He’s still has it with 170k miles. Im trying to buy it from him. It’ll look nice next to my fully stock 2003 Silverado. 😎

In 99 it was the best truck Ford just decided to stick 2 Camry engines together and call it a modular and ram is trash... So gm was king at that time then sadly Ford took over again when they dropped the coyote
