We did ( not sure you remember, i did leave a comment about buying a 60 hampton.) buy that boat brought her frome New Port RI to Algonac Mi. it was a blast. Thanks for all the info and letting us know we could do it. Hope to see you guys some day in florida or Bimini
So good to hear from you and congrats on the Hampton! That must have been quite an adventure indeed and we are humbled if we we played any part in boosting your confidence. Please keep us posted and cheers!
Hey AJ & Tim ...Sheila & I just got through watching a bunch of your vids, she especially loved the ones w/ Richard ❤ , great adventures & good times , you both look fantastic..... sending lots o’ love ❤️ DAVE & SHEILA ARONSON
Hi! Found your channel. One note. It’s not the West Point Military Academy. It is the United States Military Academy at West Point. You are correct that it is the oldest since it was established in 1802 since prior to that it was the location on the river where chain links were floated across the river to prevent the British from sailing up to Albany. (I happen to be a graduate of USMA and am proud of the institution. )
Thanks Alec. We've stand corrected on that and are sorry that we got it wrong. If you can't tell, we're very detail oriented and hate that we missed that. Cheers!
Thanks for the wonderful trip on the Hudson. I boat in the Puget Sound, British Columbia, and Alaska so I will probably never cruise is your water.... currently 2 feet of snow on the ground here in Spokane Washington. Happy Holidays to you from the crew on Priceless ❄️☃️🎄
Thanks so much. We also love seeing videos of other cruising grounds. You're lucky to be in some of the most beautiful and it's on our wishlist to one day charter in that area. Happy Holidays to you and your crew as well!
Great to have you both back! Made the trip to Albany from Wrightsville Beach in 2020. The Hudson River and valley area is simply magnificent! Thanks for taking us along again! Happy Holidays!
Great to see you guys back! Always appreciate all of your videos and especially your Hudson River videos.. besides the obvious entertainment it gives me great info that I can use when I have friends on my boat - out of Marlboro - love giving history facts to know and shout! Just an FYI - you passed Marist College not Vassar...
Thanks for the kind words David - so glad you enjoyed that. And great catch that we also realized after it was too late, though technically, after Shadows, we *did* pass Vassar, inland as it may be 😁
Brings back memories of a yearly trip from Norwalk Ct to Newburgh to deliver my fathers friends sailboat back to the Newburgh yacht club for the winter(we’d do the opposite in spring but the fall trip was my favorite) I Was in Kingston in late October and saw the Arriva at the municipal dock there next to the Museum. Thanks for the video!!
What I would give to cruise on a yacht down the atlantic coast to beautiful sunny Miami then through the keys and around up the west coast how many 100s of thousands of $$ would it cost me to experience that life style I'm in my early 60s and the clock keeps racing ahead😮
The Hudson is truly a Beautifull river for boating tours. 14:43 Dutch here, Saugerties doesn’t mean anything in Dutch or in “ye olde” Dutch. The translation of “sawmill” is “Houtzagerij” in Dutch, and the direct translation is “zaagmolen”. According to their own historical data, The earliest Dutch navigators where there wel before it’s time around 1616, but i did not see any Dutch affiliation with Saugerties lighthouse. “Saugerties was a major port with daily commercial and passenger transportation around 1834.”
"The name Saugerties is derived from the Dutch “Zager’s Killetje,” meaning a sawmill on a creek, and in fact, there was a mill built on Esopus Creek to harness the creek’s waterpower. The mill formed the cornerstone of a thriving paper industry, which produced as much as eight tons of paper daily, making it one of the leading producers of paper in the 1800s."
Hi AJ & Tim, what a channel!!!! you got me through Christmas, as I have been quarantined with a bad virus and missed all the holiday festivities. I binged watched your whole channel. I have been boating most of my life. My wife and I first bought a 2006 22 Sea Ray Sundeck in 2017. In 2020 we upgraded to a 2008 33 Sea Ray Sundancer. We have since taken her all over New England (Block Island is our favorite spot, and of course, we spend the most time on Fire Island) but never up the Hudson! We live in Long Island and have family in Catskill, Kingston, and Saugerties. Thinking it might be a 2023 trip for sure! Out of June-August, is there a month you recommend taking the trip up? Your Jefferson is the exact boat we want to upgrade to someday and take on the Great Loop!!! Have your guys thought about making the loop? Before stepping up to your 60, what size and kind of boat did you have? From one video I saw, it looked to be a Sea Ray 44-48!!! Thanks again for the great content. Waiting for your next video to drop. Cheers!!! Victor Andrade Jul of the Sea II Northport, NY 2008 33 Sea Ray Sundancer
Hey Victor - thanks so much for reaching out and for the kind words! Our first two boats were Sea Rays... a 21' Sundeck and the 26' Sundancer you saw in that video, then a 37' Four WInns express cruiser and 47' Meridian bridge boat.. We spent years on the LIS with the Meridian and Northport was always one of our favorite spots - we hope to get back there next year. We know lots of loopers and we may take it on someday but there isn't a current plan for that. If you'd like, shoot us an email at ahoy@myoloh.com so we can better swap stories and share lots of Hudson River info. Cheers!
AJ , It's been a true pleasure having you guys here. Having people like you stay with us, just enhances the sense of family that we love having here at Half Moon Bay Marina. Hope you'll remain part of "the Half Moon Bay Family" for many seasons to come.
Just found your channel guys and thanks for such a awesome trip, never realized the Hudson was such a beautiful waterway and the history, can't wait for the next stretch of the trip thanks again.
Just love the channel gents - you never fail to create a relaxed and inviting vibe like we’re all just friends hanging out enjoying wherever OLOH takes us next. Keep that operational stuff coming too. Doing the loop is a bucket list item for me so It’s fun seeing how the systems work and what it takes to keep a serious vessel operating day-to-day.
Thanks so much! We really appreciate that feedback as that is exactly the vibe we're going for. We've gotten to know many Loopers over the years - what an adventure that will be!
Thanks so much for the teaser video, I was starting to jones for more videos, so right on time!!! I’d is also want to ask what weather app you use, and or do you use multiple weather apps? Thanks again, you guys are one of a kind fantastic!
Stephen - you are too kind. We do use many weather apps though in the video you see A.J. scrolling around Windy which is easily our most frequently used weather app. We also like the Windfinder app and Swell Info is terrific, though we use that on our laptop. Of the free radar apps, we gravitate mostly to Storm Radar. Hope that helps!
Glad to come along on another trip with you guys. It's interesting to hear the history of the area you're traveling in and are you planning on heading south this winter?
Yep, when we’re on the Hudson Kingston is one of our favorite stops. Nice in the summer with music on the gazebo in the town Square and all the restaurants surrounding it.
So happy to see you guys back on the water and posting videos. You always make very thorough and fun Contant as well as spectacular cocktails. Keep being amazing.
As a great compliment, you remind me of my favorite High School History Teacher (Class of 74). His forte was more Civil War, but also American History. Loved all the side comments and extra information. Great website and welcome back.
Thanks! We were so sorry for all you went through with Ian but happy to see that things appear to be working out. Never seen anything quite like the resplashing of Happy Ours. Enjoy Florida!
I love your vids… however, I do wish you would at least acknowledge it has been six months since you last video and give us a little update as to how we got from there to here. Last we left you guys, you were hauling out in FL at the end of the season… now, all of a sudden, you’re in the dang Hudson. We all have questions 😊
Ha! Appreciate the interest. For the most part, we like to keep our videos "evergreen" meaning they are not necessarily held to a particular timeline. Some will obviously be in a series such as this video which is the first of three. We do generally keep regular, realtime updates going on our Facebook page (just search for Adventures Of OLOH). We're so glad you enjoy them and really appreciate the feedback!
Thanks John! Really appreciate that. We're taking our first-ever winter off but we're looking forward to some great northeast cruising in the spring. Cheers!
That's so kind of you Coleen. OLOH is a 2004 that came to us in excellent condition which we have done our best to maintain. We were also drawn to the contemporary layout and flexibility to make functional changes that would blend nicely.
@@OLOH ..oh yes, the woodwork has not a blemish on it and has that perfect color that we are looking for. We have looked at Grand Banks but I made the mistake of seeing your videos and now I see Grand Banks so differently.... Is there a video in which you discuss the cost of acquiring your yacht (I will not be so bold as to ask online) as it is a beauty.
Thank you again Coleen (and to be sure, Jasper may or may not have marked up a bit of our beautiful wood floor😁). You cannot go wrong with a Grand Banks, particularly a later model. But as you know there's obviously a lot of difference between the trawler and motor yacht styles. While Jeffersons were built in Taiwan and Grand Banks in Malaysia (at least since '95), they share a lot of the same approach to craftsmanship. And certainly that GB woodwork and joinery is some of the best in class. We avoid talking about pricing on our website and in our videos since all of that info becomes outdated. A decent reference for pricing might be to check out the 2005 sistership to OLOH that is currently for sale (see it on Yachtworld). There were only around nine of our late model style built so they don't come around too often. While we and its owners have done some different things in our refits, it's a nice example of this model. If you ever have any specific questions about the costs of some of the work we have done or anything at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at ahoy@myoloh.com and we'll do our best to help out. Cheers!
