Good overview of the options. I’ve had the QuadLock on two bikes now for almost a year. For my smaller bike, the simple mount is low profile and blends in great with the controls. For my H-D cruiser I use the all metal mount with the “wireless” charger and wire it into the USB port on the side. It is a great setup. For those putting the phone in your pocket, there is value to having some info while you ride. Waze in particular will give you heads up to debris in the road or cops. Never hurts to be aware!
Greetings from Malaysia. Have been using the Freak Mount for over a year now. Definitely pleased with it especially the ease of putting it on and removing it. I use an Android and despite without a vibration dampener, my phone still functions well. The magnet really works well and no scratches thus far. The only drawback was that , the screws that attach the the parts together with a spring inside did become loose once ( perhaps because of frequent use)and it came apart. No problem though as it can be easily fixed with the appropriate sized screwdriver. The other issue which I had just noticed recently was the inner part which fixes the phone at its sides is lined with a material which has slightly peeled off.Again, no major issue actually. As, I come from a region that has frequent rainfall , its easy to remove (I don't have a protective rain cover for my phone) when I'm riding. I'm not sure if the magnetic base works as effectively when it rains or it alters its efficiency. Keep up the excellent work. It must have been a time consuming process to prepare this review. Much appreciated.
Thank you for always being thorough and adding some humor here and there. Thank you also for your opinion. We value it, that's why we come back. You rock. (And good job on keeping your manicure on point. No one wants to look at rachet fingernails...) 😁
Be interested to see the long term on the Quad Lock since that is the one I chose. Takes a little getting used to popping it off but once you figure that out it’s second nature. Love your channel. Keep the videos coming.
The quadlock also can rotate at 2 points and kinda be diagonal on the bars so you can kind of have more mounting options than the rokform. That's why I use it
I used the Rockform for a while but had to switch. The magnet on the case messed with the display on my phone. The reason I switched is because I changed my bars to 1.5 inch diameter. Tackform is the only one that fits large bars (Ram makes a large mount but looks cluncky). Tackform has worked flawlessly with my S21 Ultra at speeds well above legal limits. I ride a Road King with no windshield...
I know over a year old, Quad lock has a universal case mount, that will mate to most all cases and is very strong, another tuber showed even at 60lbs wouldn't come off the phone actually cracked the phone housing.
It is. But it's also very easy to use. Doesn't require a special case. And easily removed with no tools. If you have bags its super simple to toss it when not in use.
Had used rammounts for years but moved to quadlock a year ago and wouldn’t change now. More expensive and you need to go into their ecosystem with the case but well worth it when you do. I have the anti vibration / charger / 12v battery tender and love it.
I would recommend the Quad Lock with the vibration damper. Quad Lock will not damage the camera on your phone as well. I’ve been using Quad Lock for over a year and it’s the truth for sure. Can’t imagine not using the Quad Lock.
do you have an iphone or android? ive seen that mostly iphones are getting ruined from mounts. also, are you using a forkstem mount or handlebar mount?
The Quadlock is ridiculously hard regarding mounting your phone on it. Way too fiddlly. The advertisements show it snapping on immediately, but I've never been able to do that. I bought the Peak Design phone mount. Incredibly simple to mount your phone, and the most unobtrusive. Surprised you didn't add it to your video.
I have had the Rockform on my 2016 Fat Bob and now on my 21 Streetglide Special. I've thought about getting the dampener but I didn't want to give up the magnet securing the phone to the holder. I know the dampener has the lock on it, but like you said in the video I love being able to grab my phone while riding and being able to easily snap a pic or take a video. Plus I liked how much slimmer the rockform case felt vs the quad lock. Plus having the magnet to hold my phone on my tank or wherever is a major plus to me. Also when mounting the rockform to larger diameter bars, I found wrapping a piece of electrical tape around the bar helps give it a good snug fit without worrying about messing up the bar.
After two years my ram mount cracked I really liked it while it lasted the base that the ball goes into cracked a little bit so my phone decided to sit were it wants lol
I like my rockform because I can fold it down when not in use so I never notice it + it has an extra strap to secure on bar with quick release on case, and the case is very strong
That's what I do. My daily case pops off super easy and the QL isn't too bad to get on and off but I can 100% see not wanting to have to deal with that.
Quick question could a 2022 fat bob be a ok bike for a beginner rider? Just wondering cause I feel like I could handle one. I drive trucks for a living across country and respect the machine I'm in and around me. And I know I can do the same with a fat bob 114. Thanks 👍🏾
Unfortunately I didn't even know about them until it was too late to include them. It looks very similar to the Rokform just a different clip mechanism?
The Ram mount is worst option to use... NEVER move it like he doid, that will wear it out quicker and it will then need to replaced. They do have a lifetime warranty though, so Ram will replace it over and over. None of these options are the best though.
I have samsung s21 ultra with metal case very heavy cell, I've been using ram mount cross country without the band, hit all kinds of weather never a problem, RAM Mount all the way..
Great video as always. I watch your videos for great information and to help me with my own. I have used the Rokform perch mount for 2 years on my Tri Glide. It’s the first and only one I’ve purchased. I just recently added the vibration dampener when they came out with it. It’s been through 20k+ miles and two phones with no camera issues at all. I like the perch Mount much better because it’s more solid than the bar mount. I understand your reasoning for using the bar mounts though. I picked it because it’s metal and not plastic. I look forward to your long term review on these. Keep up the great work and God Bless.
You put in a lot of effort here, which is admirable. But you totally missed the mark. 80% of us use iPhones, whic are manufactured in a manner where the vibration destroys the camera. The only useful phone mount information is “will it destroy your iphone camera”. You find a mount that won’t destroy an iphone camera and that video will get some views. The rest of this review is useless fluff. just being honest.
I mentioned the word vibration a minimum of 10 times. I talked about the dampeners so much I had to edit a bunch out. I mentioned how I've used the Ram Mount for a few years and never had an issue with my camera. I get its a 45 min video and people are going to skip around but watch a little longer before you call something fluff. Like you said a lot of effort. I'll be the first to admit when the ball is dropped but every single test ride has talk about vibration...
43 minutes? Wth, dude. Value people's time, more. Heck as I type this you have tlaked about how nice a package is and almost finished listing what is in the title. Get on with it.
The ram mount without the rubber band to fasten the 4 corners is scary especially after seeing a few videos where people lost their phones when not using them. The vibration dampener is good enough maybe not to ruin the phone but try recording video using the phones camera while on the mount and you get the ocean wave effect. What about the quad mount? Also does quad mag mount hold it secure, the magnet looks weak to hold it on.
i have destroyed many iphone cameras trying many different mounts on my bmw r1200gs. i now just keep it in my pocket, because none of them work iphones.
I've used rockform case alone and the magnet you can run 100s and don't move, but be aware of where you set your phone i picked up metal shavings by setting phone on workbench. Which without pulling phone off and doing more of slide off i scratched tank 2 the metal. great case for sure
I've been using the RAM mount on my street bikes for just over 200k miles. It suits my needs to a T. I have a Tacform on my dual sport. It works great as well. Several nice options these days.
This guy is a joke! Quad lock is plastic, I guess he has never seen what happens when you heat up and cool down plastics. You didn’t bother to show the rocking motion of the case either. Quad lock is not flush. Metal can repaired or a screw can be replaced. The magnetic is a bad joke! Let’s put a magnetic on a 40k bike?! Nope. I get the Ram Mount, it’s cheaper but actually works. Rockford is expensive but will last and is better for actual motorcycle use than Quad lock. Quad lock is perfect for mopeds or bicycles.
I appreciate how comprehensive you were with all this, been waiting for this video to drop since you listed about it a few days back. Great review mate !!
I use the RAM Mounts claw with the QUADLOCK mount and case. Simplifies it. I also center locate my mount. For reference I have 2" thick Burleigh mini apes on my 2019 Sport Glide.
Great review and still valid a year later. My issue with the two that require their cases is that I change phones every 6-8 months and like you, prefer my own case choice vs having to use a specific case. Tough choices.
I wasted almost the entire 43 minutes of the video to reply to a stupid comment telling people to use put their phones in their pocket and use the "integrated GPS" everyone's bikes are supposedly supposed to have. "Oh, its just an old RG. What year? 2022 Road Glide limited. Fully loaded." If you dont understand that not everyone can afford a fully loaded bike with all the features, then maybe you shouldnt input your opinion on something that is all but a necessity for people who dont have things like GPS built into their bikes. We need these phone mounts to have something resembling a gps on our bikes. We cant all have the money to afford the fully loaded Mercedes Benz of bikes. Jesus. Freaking. Christ.
Lol at you. I picked the quad lock. In the time it took you to write all that nonsense, you could have bought one for yourself and your friends. Go do that now. Use my link. Thanks.
@@throttleblip9854 did you read my comment? It wasn't even directed at the video. It was directed at another commenter that was pulling the "Why be homeless? Just buy a house" trope with phone mounts. Basically rubbing it in that she has a fully loaded road glide and doesn't need a phone mount for GPS because her bike has it built in. Then she proceeded to act like we poor people should just go buy a $45k bike instead of using a phone mount. It was ignorant so I commented on it.
I've been shopping for a mount and this video helped alot thank you!!.... and as I'm watching you ride around I'm like wait a minute.... I know where he's at lol.. it's awesome I'm not the only vloger/ youtuber around here... RIDE ON!
RAM MOUNTS The new RAM wireless charging cradle mount. It is water proof and Qi charging so it will not over charge your phone. You can insert phone and remove it one handed. Also has a rubber strap to secure it from opening but I never use it as it is very secure. With the RAM mounts if you get glare on the screen you can move it around so the sun is not making glare on screen. My phone is in a Otter Box Defender Case and it charges with no problem. You do not have to use the mount brand specific case to use this mount, use your desired phone case or no case at all. I have it plugged into the cigarette lighter using a double USB plug. But if you wanted you can plug it into your USB in the cubby hole for power (not CarPlay). I did make a lil notch at the bottom so I could plug in my data cable and then plug that to the bike USB in cubby hole to run CarPlay when I want to. I then run it on Bluetooth and use the WAZE on the phone and H-D nav on bike screen, one zoomed out one close in, but only one doing the navigation, don’t need both talking at same time. I am using it with two short arms with a double ball to get it tucked in even with bars and closer in from bars. I have since added a Bluetooth wireless dongle to my usb in the cubby hole and can use CarPlay without plugging in the phone, I just insert phone into holder. I have been using RAM products for over 30 years on boats, 4wheelers, vehicles, bikes and I never had a piece fail me or it damage any of my devices.
Grate review..really helped my choose the one I wanted I’m gonna go with the quad lock with damper..but have to have the header clamp to fit my sports bike..was going with the Oxford holder to start with but don’t trust the small little clamp to hold £1000,s worth of phone..
I have had the ram mount for 2 years My phone has fell off twice (hitting train tracks, speed bumps) , Plus the rubber tips on the ram mount will get lost now they sell a rubber band thing to put over the phone corners and ram mount I'm getting rid of it and going with the rock form I am a year-round motorcycle rider. The ram Mount is not good for motorcycle use maybe cars Thank you for your review of the others.
Hello, greetings from Germany. I like your Videos. I'm a big fan of SP Connect because it's not plastic, it's aluminum. I have it on my street bob and I am very satisfied.
I like my chrome tackform personally no special phone case needed . It could use some new rubber after 3 years of fun in the sun but just the top 3m rubber pad slides out of place a lil bit but I just push it back when its warm out and its not a big deal. It still holds the phone rock solid even when hitting ginormous potholes with great frequency... It looks really good on my chrome bars too , just like its supposed to be there even when my phone is not... I run it horizontal almost perfectly square between the grips and run my music apps with gps in the upper left corner works great for me .
Too late of a comment to matter, but I switched from a ram mount on a previous bike to a rockform on a road king special from 2018 to 2023. It looked great, matched the glossy black of the bike. I took it off a few times but mostly left it on. Each time I removed it I would adjust it a few times during a ride before I found my sweet spot. Over time it did put some marks in the powder coat of the bar until I was smart enough to put a wrap of black electrical tape around the bar where I wanted it. I did get numerous questions and positive comments about it over the years. Not having a fairing on the RKS, I did have the camera get destroyed (samsung) twice from rocks or road debris but never had the mount fail nor any long term issues with the camera optical zoom. I did notice, for better or worse, I put off upgrading phones as much or waited for them to be on the market for awhile before buying because of the phone case needed from Rockform. All in all I liked it. I think this go around I want to try a ram mount on the gas tank instead of the bars. Perhaps a gas ring ram mount with a phone mount would be a solution for pan America owners wanting to stay off their bars?
Love my RokForm mount. Once you put it on your bike your phone ain't going anywhere. I have a 2016 Ultra Limited. Not a lot of space on my bars since I have hydraulic clutch lever and brake lever. I chose to go with the control mounted version of the RokForm. Mounted it on my throttle side.
I have had both mounts on bikes only negative with Quadlock is the case when not on bike has a hump on back of case when laying flat on desk spins around no biggie but like Rok form better
I just went with quadlock but you gotta get a Ram mount attachment because I got a stock steering damper across the triple and absolutely no bar space on my sportbike lol 😆
Don't have time to watch the entire video but will return to it later. I'm currently using a Tackform on my '17 Fat Boy. Realizing you don't have it on you, would like to hear others options on it. Well that's 43 minutes I'll never get back. Kidding, kidding LOL. Love your stuff, man. Like I said, I'm using the Tackform on my bike which is basically the same hardware as the Freakmount. It just mounts on the handlebars instead. I have a cheap iPhone SE and it hasn't damaged my camera yet due to the vibration and currently Tackform doesn't offer a dampener. However, the owner says they are currently in the process of developing one and offered to swap out my hardware once it's available. As far as just sticking the phone in my pocket; not an option for me as I have a terrible sense of direction and depend on my phone for GPS. Also, maybe reach out to Tackform and see if they would be willing to send you their product for review. I'd like to know what you think of it.
what do you think of the rydex x3 phone holder and can you do a review of that as well I have the roc form I don't use it because it needs to be MagSafe to and it isn't
Fat Bob 114 has tapered bars and in the centre are about 1 1/4” diameter (not going to go and measure) and none of the clamps fit at that point. I fitted my Quad lock on the tapered section and it hasn’t fallen off yet. Just disappointed that Quad lock seemed uninterested in providing a larger clamp. What would you do?
Using Ciro3D phone holder for years with no issues and no camera issues but I have an android. I think only iphones have the camera issues with vibration.
Thanks for the great video. I went with the rokform myself. Heard some reviewers say the buttons on the case on the quadlock were difficult to get to work. Looking forward to your long term review.
@@louislozano9669 same thing happened to my brothers iphone using the quad lock, I think it's the model of phone. I've used my ram for years on my new Softail and my previous Dyna.
