Also a note to go with throttle locks. When installing and testing, DO NOT over tighten upon installation. They are meant to hold your throttle steady but must still be loose enough that if you have to chop the throttle for avoidance maneuvers or for traffic related situation that it can be easily rotated with not much effort. That is part of why the Omni has a set screw. So it can be fine tuned for fitment on any cycle. The last thing you want in a panic situation is to have to force your throttle closed, causing you to be unable to break any later then you have to.

Even if the bars wobble they'd straighten out real quick with no weight on the bars. Grab onto the bike with your thighs and you'll be fine.

The stability of a motorcycle is not: *the rider gripping the bars hard *the gyroscopic force of wheels/rotors spinning quickly The stability of all motorcycles is: *the rake and trail relationships of the front steering stem geometry

Or he finds out that the aerodynamics are a bit different on the bike and without his hands on the throttle, it gets into a death wobble. I had that happen on a bike recently. I had built an auxiliary tank to go on the luggage rack for long trips. Without the tank, I could take my hands off the grips and it would continue along as expected, slowly losing speed. When I did it with the tank on the bike, the front wheel would start to wobble, progressively getting worse. Of course, I did not leave my hands off of it to see how bad it could get before the bike ended up going down. All it took was to barely touch the handlebars with a hand for it to dampen out the wobble and it was not even possible to know that it was there waiting to bite the rider if he ever took both hands off the grips again. I took the tank off since I needed to repaint it (Rustoleum oil based enamel is NOT gasoline resistant, unfortunately) and the wobble disappeared. Interesting, from an engineering aspect though... I would have thought that the windshield combined with my body and/or the backrest for the rear seat would have blocked enough of the airflow that the tank would not have affected the handling.

I have owned both of these units. First the GoCruise, after about a year it broke. So I bought the Omnni-Cruise and I love it. The adjustment screw lets you get it just tight enough so that it doesn't slip and let the throttle close. The GoCruise worked well but it would slip more and it broke. So, I recommend the Omni-Cruise for a long term solution.

I have the BrakeAway Throttle lock on one of my bikes. It costs quite a bit more that this but it is worth every penny. Not only is it slip-proof when properly adjusted but it is activated by a push of a button and can be released either by a push of a different button or by the squeezing of the front brake lever. You might want to consider a review of that product.

Great video...thanks for the comparison. You're right, the Omni-Cruise does look a lot sleeker. I needed something to keep my hand from falling asleep after 15 min of riding so I tried a Crampbuster Throttle Assist for $9.99 at Cycle Gear and it works great.

+1 for the omni cruise. I bought one a year ago for my sportbike and since have purchased another bike with electronic cruise control. I keep the omni-cruise in my pack to let my friends use on longer rides. I also met the inventers of this great accessory at Phoenix Bike fest 2015. Fantastic Guys, great warranty on their product(lifetime, I believe), and they sold it to me for 20% off at the event. Ridesafe

Cramp busters work awesome too. Not really cruise control but you can manipulate the throttle with your palm and don't have to grip the throttle as much. I was surprised how great it works on long trips. The thing about these cruise controls is where I live there's lots of hills so your either speeding way up or slowing way down.

Adjustable throttle locks are standard on every Harley-Davidson throttle. However, they act by increasing the friction against the throttle return spring. That means that in addition to holding a fixed speed, they also let you make very low effort speed adjustments while riding. This is very nice while riding through rolling hills, for example. Also, actual cruise-control units are available. I added one to a carburated Gold Wing, mostly because holding four carbs open for hours on end was incredibly tedious. Anyhow, good video, and I would suggest people look at other types of throttle locks as well as these two. Talk to any touring rider to find out more.

@free2000
@free2000 8 лет назад
I've had a basic plastic one for many years, different than the one shown, and it works great for relief when your hand is getting tired or cramped. One thing to note, compared to a car cruise control which actually maintains a specific speed up and down hills, a throttle lock will not do that. Only maintains a steady speed on a flat road, you will slow down going up hill and speed up going down. If I ever need a replacement, I'd get the Omni-Cruise because of the adjustability of it so it works with any grip. I also know the inventor/maker of it and can attest to the quality and attention to detail of his work. (This is not a paid endorsement! LOL)
@goducgo
@goducgo 8 лет назад
The plastic one will break after time. I like the more robust lock. But like you said taking hand off bar or reaching brake can get some interference. Great for freeway use and use it a lot on Tuono and Multistrada. Would highly recommend either one.

Have had this for over a year now and completely satisfied with the cheap version. Mine came with a rubber sleeve like the one that came with the more expensive version. It is easy and simple and when you want to release the throttle you just twist the throttle forward and it disengages!

Well done on the review. I've been looking at a lot of different designs. There's a 'professional' model that releases when you brake, but it's crazy expensive. And don't bother with the 'cramp buster' as it's not really a throttle lock.Years ago I remember reading of Harley riders using rubber bands around the inside edge of the throttle to give it some resistance from turning. It didn't lock the throttle (that would be bad) but took some twisting pressure off your hand during long rides.

It works really amazing on CVT scooters, you can engage it and leave it there whole trip on the highway, because you have no shifting, you can directly use it to change speed then put it back to cruise speed, not having to reset it all the way changing gear like on geared bikes.

I've been thinking about this off and on for a long time. Just didn't want to waste the money for something that probably didn't even work, or the other extreme would be getting stuck with the throttle open. I backed the Atlas Throttle Lock on Kickstarter a while back... will have to put together a quick review on it because the mechanism is a bit different. If you have a little more in the wallet and want to get something that looks a lot better, check out the Throttlemeister throttle locks / bar ends. I have them on my bike and I LOVE THEM! You twist it with the throttle and then a little more and the throttle stays open. If you have to slow down, just give a little bit of pressure on the roll off and the throttle closes. You can get different weight bar ends to reduce or eliminate vibration in your handle bars. And they have a bunch of different designs. I am not sure if they are a fit for every make and model of motorcycle out there. But if they fit your bike and you have the funds, check them out!

I 3d print my own, i also have a different kind, with two flat discs (that interlock) that sit between the handle and throttle cable housing. One has a handle that sits between the two cables on the hanndle so it stays in place, the other one has a tab that you can push down, making one disc slide over the other, making the assembly thicker and putting the throttle grip in place. to disengage, just push the tab the other way into it's original position. This version will keep the throttle grip free. Both work well, but you always have to remember to disengage them, compared to built in cruise contol systems. The one that looks like the Omni-Cruise has a tensioning screw, with a ring that has notches that lock into a diamond shaped part on the main part so it stays in place and under the same tension. Two M6 nuts and a bit of thread is used to hold it all together. Printin time is about 2 hours and costs are 80 cents, plus two nuts and 5cm of thread.

Depends how many units they're selling. Getting this sort of stuff set up can be extremely expensive, but I'm sure they're doing enough volume to make up for that. I'd personally go with a crampbuster or similar. It's not cruisecontrol, you still have to have your hand near the throttle, but it does allow you to use your wrist to keep the throttle engaged, so you can relax the fingers for a bit. The other nice thing, is that they tend to be even cheaper.

I'd only use these on a very long ride on a stretch of freeway with not much traffic. Like if you were taking a cross country trip on your bike and going across Texas. Lots of long flat open roads that go on for miles and miles. How quickly can you let go of the gas in an emergency with this thing on your throttle?

A thick ZipTie can also work if the end flap is against you brake simulating a cruse

go cruise has a metal one similar to the omni cruise for about 20 bucks cheaper. Makes a great addition to those long rides.

My one concern is what if you have to decelerate on short notice? Factory cruise control will disengage as soon as you touch a brake or the clutch, this would keep going..

These are the cheapest temporary ones, you should review the kaoko throttle lock which you actually install into the handgrip.

little tip here. IF you get one of these (I have the metal one) DO NOT and let me repeat. DO NOT LET GO OF THE HANDLEBARS! Again, with me this time: DO NOT LET GO OF THE HANDLEBARS! It's ok to let go of your handlebars if you are not using a cruise control clamp, but if you are using it... DO NOT LET GO OF THE HANDLEBARS! (it's ok to let go for short amounts of time like to quickly stretch your arm I guess but briefly) Keep your hands on the bars SPECIALLY your throttle hand! The only way to deactivate it is closing the throttle yourself. This device is meant ONLY alleviate the stress on your arm caused by keeping the throttle open, NOT to allow you to completely let go. I CANNOT Stress enough how dangerous it is to let go of the handlebars while this thing is on.

+Riggro why?
@Skyerzen

+Jason Leo There's a reason throttles are sprung to return to the close position, There's a reason why cruise controls on cars are designed to shut off when you touch the brake. In a car you can get away with more since you are in a car, but in a motorcycle, remaining IN CONTROL of your bike 100% of the time becomes the only thing that keeps you alive. This is just a tip from me, I mean you can do whatever you want. I'm the type of rider that NEVER rides without a motorcycle jacket and pants with kneepads and riding boots.

+Riggro hey mate i hear you there i just thought you was reffering to something more than the obvious. i assumed maybe this unit can fail or something
@Skyerzen
@Skyerzen 8 лет назад
+Jason Leo ah no no no. it works so damn well at keeping the throttle open that I feel it requires you to be extra careful around it to avoid a runaway bike. Slapping around for the brake because your hands were off the handlebars in a panic is not fun, and this thing makes it even worse! If you press the brake and this thing is engaged, it will ACCELERATE the bike. I'm just trying to warn people not to be too complacent around these devices.

+Riggro ah ok it was my understanding that it didnt have to be super tight so you can still close the throttle and any hand pressure on the throttle when pulling the brake would cause the omni to lift not the throttle to move. hell i have seen similar done with a cable tie but i dont have one yet but i assume you do

What about rolling off the throttle. How does it disengage?
@kiddoo13

what if you have to emergancy break? im assuming that your throttle will still be engaged when you break with this thing on, so it doesnt seem very safe to me. but what do i know, im just an idiot on the internet
