I found out how to program this but start this on atleast 3 blocks of straight road to ride without stopping: Put the bike first in neutral- once you have it plugged into the ecu turn on the over- Hit the kill switch of your bike to on- The indicator should say L- Start your bike and from a stop shift into 1st- Let go of the clutch and ride in 1st gear while its flashing the number 1- It will then flash into a small letter N- When it does that IMMEDIATELY SHIFT into 2ND GEAR- ride in 2nd gear until its done flashing and turns from a number 2 to a small letter N- Then shift into 3rd and ride in 3rd gear until its done flashing and turns to a small letter N- Keep doing this all the way through until 6th gear these same steps and once you get to 6th gear ride out the gear till its a solid 6 and its not flashin a number 6. Then it will be program and done :) if you mess up while trying to do this and you get stuck at a stop sign or red light. Pull over and turn off the bike. Turn the key over and hit the kill switch on and then off about 6-7 times until it starts with the letter L. Then you can try to program the gears again. The programming must be done without stopping from 1st-6th gear :)
the new Honda rebel 2020 finally gets a gear indicator on the instrument display. But my 2019 did not have one and I got one of these GEAR indicators. Thanks for the video on how to program it. I am glad to see the indicators is fairly responsive in its calculation using rpm and speed data
Thanks! I did this with the bike on the center stand but didn't realize that I may only shift into the next gear when this upside down u sign appears. After this video it worked right away 🙂
I ordered one, it said its compatible with my fzs 600. Can i do it in in my garage? Just hold the clutch and shift the gears while in the same spot? If not that can i do it on my center stand… if not ill take it for a ride and try like him.
What year is your bike? How do I know if it will work for my 03 Honda CB900F (Hornet 919). It will only work for bikes, which already have gear sensor installed from factory and have the connector.
This might be late but at 7:49 you forgot to program neutral therefore he only got a - instead of an N . He skipped it went straight to second gear . I have the same indicator and when in neutral it displays "n "
@@cjfromsanandreas9217 its between first and second. Slight lift on the shift peg should get you there. Remember that if you ever get on a bike for the first time
@@HAMMER8181 hey man this comment was a year ago now i have two motorcycles lol idk why i was so confused about neutral but yeah anyways thank u for the comment😂
Sup Luke, I routed it a different way than the video since it didn’t look clean and it’s been so long that I don’t remember now. Took me only like 10 min tho overall and was a super easy install. Good luck brother. 👍
Yes buddy Pakman..how did you experience honda cb650f...coz cb650r is a little more expensive than cb650f...i plan to buy this bike...i really surprise on it that the handle seems like cbr..how did you do that...can i modify the handle? Pls. I need your advice..thanks ..am sorry bro...i got a mistake to checked your bike it is CBR..but can i modify cb650f handle like a handle of cbr650f? Jeff from Phillipines..
It’s a great bike, if you are not going to race, I highly recommend this one. Has plenty of power on the low end for daily use so you don’t have to rev it up so high to get power. Good luck if you by one and ride safe.
What hapenes when you go from 1st to 2nd, but you accidentally shift it into neutral? Will it show neutral? And when you then clutch in and shift up to 2nd again, will it correctly show 2nd? Or will it then show 1st allthough you're in 2nd?
good stuff bro,.. i just got me an 2015 cbr650f, with power commander and more from the dealers used with 5k miles, i want to add that to mine, also i want to add temp gauge ...
@@bendickinson3036 yes. An hour. Maybe 2. Mount the indicator. Run wire under tank. Tap into crank sensor and plug into speed sensor. Both are under tank. Then run power to a switch on source. Pretty easy and it's super bright and easy to see.
I know this is an old video and not sure if you still have the bike. Did you ever have an issue with the water pump leaking? I've got a 2018 model with just 1300 miles and have to replace the water pump on mine. Not sure if this is common with this year and make. Ugghh.
@@PakmanR3 Okay, thanks. I just got it back from the shop. While they were replacing the water pump I had them install a PowerCommander 6 and do a full dyno tune on the bike. This is of course after getting a full Yoshi exhaust. The bike is soooooo smooth now.
just got the 2018 of this bike, where does the power kick in, Im a new rider, someone told me not to rev it out in 2nd or third gear. or keep it out the rev range whatever.
It is possible for you to show the connections of the indicator ? in my device, de wires and the plug didn't get attached, so i don't know wich wire is in each connector. Thanks
Hello Pakman nice job I have a goldwing 1800, and I don't know where that plug is located at, and I'm not sure if you know. I wonder if all honda's have that same type of plug under the seat, and its red not sure. 6/8/2022
Just got mine installed today. Mine is still kinda slow when I shift the gears. And when I shift down and hold the clutch , it shows the - sign and never tell if I’m at 2 or 3
@@PakmanR3 Yeah you can also run wires along the top of the frame without lifting the tank. It would just get in the way if you installed it over the air filter box anyway.
Update for anyone who’s looking into this: if you take the white piece at 1:37 you can pop the clips inside of it and slide the wires out of the casing. Then you can run those wires through the bottom of the tail fairing where the other wires are and put it back together. Just make sure you put the colors back in the same spots and it should work just fine. Then just plug it into the red part from the bike and your set. I just did it on my 650f earlier lmk if there’s any problems.
IMO the gear indicator is mounted too low.. for safety reasons I would have placed it between the gauges, in the middle, on the Honda patch or possibly even higher, so you don't have to turn your head too much down to read it and you can still have your eyes watching the street..
I thought of that too but it just looks a lot cleaner like this, plus I can see it with my peripheral vision when I look at my gauges so it’s not like need to fixate on it to read what gear I’m in. But thanks for the advice. 👍
It's very slow, not immediately, but hey if it does you then fair play, stay away from drains....ps, nice motorcycle, love it when motorcycle cuts out, side stand up again....lol 😂
@@PakmanR3 I have such a similar gear indicator, the training is the same only I have two cables I have to connect. once 12 V + and once for a speed signal. That's why it does not work for me because I do not know yet where I can pick this up. But thanks for your answer.
