out of experience i can say it’s IMPORTANT to wear protective PANTS! I had my first accident going 50 and crashing into a car and my legs suffered the most because I was only wearing regular jeans. If I had worn kevlar jeans with proper protectors inside I would‘ve been able to walk the accident off way easier than I did without them. I was lucky I didn’t slide down the road back then

I can't imagine why you're telling riders, especially new riders, that riding jeans are not necessary, and that they can get them later BECAUSE THEY'RE EXPENSIVE. That's so irresponsible. How about suggesting that they wait one more paycheck before hitting the road, and they can afford those jeans? I know my ass is worth $200, and it's an old ass, so the young people who are watching your channel sure should be encouraged to protect as much of their bodies as possible for just a couple hundred bucks. It’s amazing just how arrogant people are about not understanding what a lot of people’s budgets are like. The fact is that riding pants are actually the *lowest* priority basic safety item if you base it off of a rational risk/cost analysis. Helmet first. Gloves second. Jacket third. Boots fourth. Pants fifth. Hell, depending on insurance costs in your area, a helmet cam so you can document what happened might even fit in there between boots and pants in the priority list. That said, you can get a good pair of riding jeans for $140 or so (Street & Steel), or riding-specific textile pants to start with much less expensively than that (Viking Cycle). That’s the route I went personally, and I had full gear for my BRS course. But I could easily budget that. Not everyone can, which means they end up prioritizing and buying what they can when they can.
@kvernesdotten

@@kvernesdotten, statistically, you’re going to get less severe damage, and that damage will be less debilitating.
@kvernesdotten
@kvernesdotten 3 года назад
@@Vessekx From not wearing pants? Im not following what exactly you are responding to now... From everything ive seen so far you are most likely to shred your legs and back on the road like a cheese grater during highway speeds, and most likely to get some form of crush damage on extremities while riding in cities. Regardless of what type the accident is, it will be pure chance how much damage occurs. I know someone who died under 30 mph. In any case, seeing as you can get a road worthy car for the price of a motorcycle + gear where the cost of ownership is lower (or a bus pass for that matter), I think its fair to consider motorcycles a hobby or toy for 99% of people out there. I dont believe anyone MUST ride a motorcycle without affording gear. My point was that I really dont understand how pointing out that riding without proper gear is an unecessary risk, is in any way more "arrogant" than going out there without gear, telling yourself it wont happen to you or it wont be that bad. You have no control over that. By definition an accident is unforseen. But what you do have control over is what protection you choose. My list would be something like: 1 - Helmet. 2 - Jacket and pants that can be zipped together so they cant move if you slide. 3 - Gloves and boots. 4 - a back protector with a hard outer shell 5 - a big mac 6 - a motorcycle with whatever money is left in the budget But hey, everyones priorities are different. Mine are based off of having survived an accident with permanent damage. Right leg in case you wondered, only reason it was not amputated is because I was wearing riding pants. And no, im not saying im right and youre wrong period. Im just trying to add another perspective.

First one is a lie. I know what happens when ppl have an accident and slide on the asphalt. The jeans and flesh combine to a bloody mess and only a doc can cut it out. Srsly even at 100 km/h (60mp/h) it can lead to some really nasty flesh jeans combination that you don’t want. If you only drive in the city it’s not that big of a deal but if you commute or ride back roads it’s a must

I agree. Abrasion protection is important. But I stand by what I said, if you are on a budget and you are just starting out - a helmet, gloves and over the ankle motorcycle specific boot is more important than riding pants. The most common injury on the lower body in a crash is broken ankles/feet. Also, a beginner likely won't slide out at 60mph. They are more likely to have a low speed drop where impact protection from hard parts is more important.

Yammie Noob I get your point but riding a bike is a hobby in the west. You Said it yourself for us in the first world it’s basically a toy. And you need a certain degree of protection for this dangerous hobby. You might not need a 400€ helmet or an airbag but cevlar jeans that protect your legs is not too far fetched. Doing 60 on the back roads or highway is pretty normal and every beginner should do that. If smth goes wrong on these roads you need that protection or get a nice jeans tattoo. (This will totally invalidate my point but idc I wanted to write this since day one I found you Yay senpai finally noticed me)

I think in regards to abrasion protection, riding pants are just about equally important as a motorcycle jacket. 30% of non-fatal motorcycle injuries happen to the legs and feet. Incidentally, the tibia is the most commonly broken bone in motorcycle related injuries, although to my knowledge there aren't any riding jeans which afford protection for this, that's more of a motorcycle boot area.

I think when it comes to safety,there is no such thing as "unnecessary gear" if money is not a problem. I had an issue with the airbag one. I have an airbag that cost me like 300 bucks. It is reliable and it could save you if you got rear ended or if someone tried to do a left turn (or right turn depending on where you live) in front of you. It protects your neck,your chest... It is not a matter of "I'm not driving recklessly enough to wear an airbag." It is a matter of "people are driving recklessly enough for me to wear an airbag."

I highly disagree with everything you have said in this video. If you weigh all your safety concerns on dollars than you shouldn't even ride. Why should dollars be compared to your life which cannot be replaced? If you can't afford brand new gear i.e. jacket, gloves, full leather pants, buy used. I do not reccomend buying a used helmet as one does not know what happened during its use unless you are experienced and can spot issues. Simple fact, spend the money(if you dont have it at that time, be PAITIENT, save your money and then purchase the gear you want and need). For me, I would rather spend the money on really good riding gear to protect myself in the event of a fall or as we all know the non-drivers out there that just dont pay enough attention, than to wish I had it laying in the hospital bed permanently paralyzed or needing massive skin grafts. Be safe, wear your riding gear everytime, all the time. Shalom✡🙏👌

My bone ripped right through the jacket. Luckily (contrary to the name I'm female) I had thigh length leather boots that did in fact save my knee and leg. Eventually they started producing decent leathers for females and my second accident saved many parts of my body. Only needing hospital treatment for a couple of days. My third my body had learnt to bounce well but my back protector was worth its weight. Sadly only one of my bikes survived these accident's. R.I.P LC 350 and FZR 400 r exup 😭😭😭

Mr Yam, Sorry if this turns into a over long message but you got a few messages SERIOUSLY wrong here - my stance is ATGATT ( all the gear all the time) any less then carry a donor card!! Kevlar jeans - brilliant if that’s your only choice and will not ride when it rains/ cold / adverse weather - as you never mentioned textile overtrousers/pants I must assume you are advocating riding in Levi’s (ok in the 70’s but no longer) - please remember your viewers may rely on your advice to then ride out in a pair of Speedo’s and flip flops🙄🤯 Airbags - a brilliant idea albeit an expensive one ,but as they are coming down in price to c£350 or so is worth investing Helmet - get the best you can BEFORE the bike (dumb choice otherwise)! Gloves - I agree that heated gloves are a second pair but once you’ve ridden in the UK I promise that heated grips just don’t cut it! Until then spend at least £80 on a decent goretex pair. Back protectors - if your jacket hasn’t got one then this is a no brainer! Although it’s hardly going to break the bank to buy a jacket with CE protection. Please check the facts - more serious injuries result from high speed abrasion than would be mitigated by a decent pair of boots. all riders should see the first bike as a multiple package bike AND gear - no point in spending 10k on a bike and 10 bucks on the gear is there. The rest of us have to save up.☝️ In all cases rule one applies - ATGATT! Better arrive hot and alive than cool to your funeral! Thanks for reading and sorry if it comes across as a bit of a rant - lost too many friends who just popped to the shops and get T boned by a car thinking that bikes bounce well!😳

The only one I agree with is the Kevlar shirt and for strictly a commuter the full back protector and 1-piece suit. But other then that, you are more likely to fall or wreck when you are first starting out. Buying the best gear possible might not just save your life, but commonly adds comfort as well. For example, cheap helmets are commonly heavy, loud, and the vents are commonly for decoration cause you'll never be able to tell if they are open or closed. In helmets like Shoei, Arai, and a few others they fix many of those issues along with being leaders in helmet safety. If you do more than your casual ride to the store (which most of us do) I think Dainese airbag vest and the upcoming Alpinestar Tech air 5, which is designed for the street only (not to be used on the track) are amazing since it's additional protection in most jackets weak spots. The only piece of gear I never use is handle bar covers, bought them and they were a pain to use. Also textile mesh jackets, though cheap, it might be better off buying a perforated leather jacket in the name of safety.

I have a thick Mocka jacket (Mocka being leather without the smooth surface), thick as in like 2mm thick (normal ones are around 1mm, with some cloth liner on the inside. NOT a riding jacket but what i had available atm. Sturdy leather boots, a good Fully Closed helmet as well as strap on back-protection, thick-sturdy leather gloves. Ive ordered strap-on knee-protection. Planning on getting some Riding Jeans (with kevlar or something that wont tear like normal ones). As well as probably some better gloves, maybe even proper riding jacket from the mainland at a later point.

I dunno, I'd say good motorcycle jeans are a far better buy than leathers. You can wear the jeans everyday, if you're just tracking or only riding on the weekend the leathers may be a better buy. A good set of jeans is also ideal for wearing to work or uni, as they should be comfortable enough, I'd probably put them on par with boots, but behind helmet, jacket, gloves, but not by much. Having gear you can wear everyday, and feel comfortable is a bit part of it if you're ATGATT.

My revzilla wish list comes out to around 1300$, which personally, I think is a pretty good deal. It has all the essentials to get started, helmet, jacket, backpack, gloves, 2 pairs of jeans and shoes.

Buying used on ebay is always an option, maybe not for helmets but definitely for things like jackets
