Welcome to part two.
If you have finished all the paperwork and passed the written test, you are ready to move on to part 2. This can be as soon as the next day! If you are doing your research ahead of time, be aware of this.
It might seem like I am repeating myself or this is common sense but this practical driving proficiency test can cause a lot of stress for people. Pay attention to every detail because the examiner will be watching. Things that may not seem important in everyday riding may be really critical in passing this test.
Also, taking the day off of work (esp. in Japan) can cause a lot of problems for people so passing on the first try prevents you from wasting days off and pissing your boss off.
If I missed anything please leave a comment. There is a lot involved in taking this test and not knowing everything in advance can lead to a lot of wasted time.
If this helped you pass the test, please leave a comment!!!!
Good luck!
Ride safely!
---------------------------------------------
Even if you do not speak Japanese, there are a lot of interesting videos on RU-vid that show the techniques for passing the test.
Here are some of my favorites:
This is probably the best one. It is old but shows all the important tasks that need to be completed. This video also looks like it was made by a Driving School.
• 指導員による模範運転1
This one also helped a lot. If you can read Japanese, there is a lot of info in this video. If you can not, you can see a run through the course.
• 【わかりすぎる】大型自動二輪 受かりたければ...
This one is a foreign guy driving his own bike on the course. He is not taking the test, just getting used to his new bike. I don't know how may places allow that.
• Unlimited Bike Licensi...
This one is the 400cc (chuugata 中型) class license:
• 【初400】二俣川試験場普通二輪実技試験1回...
At 8 : 07 he is told "The test is over." which means that he failed it.

Thanks It looks easier for you that in Osaka. I will pass for the third time today, the reasons of failing the tests : - Didn’t look right and left in the green light cross - put my right foot on the ground in first - go to far from the left edge of the road in the gaps - I left my foot over the break how is very sensitive and made the stop light blinking - on ipponbashi, I over the time by 0.5s - 3 times messed with winkers - do not squeeze the gasoline tank with legs I think that’s over strict but it like this. I saw people failed for : - not checking the blind spot anytime you turn left. - not enough general speed - go back just a little during the slope start - and plenty others To understand how to manage the winkers, I found a very useful site elevenkai.web.fc2.com/main/kosu/2lic.html Hope that can help

819S thanks In Osaka, we start by the slalom then directly the ipponbashi. No much time to warm up (I think it’s sneaky to start with ipponbashi) and I was focusing on all the details so I forgot to concentrate on the way to cross the ipponbashi, I failed dismally. That’s the first time for me to fail here. I don’t know when I will have opportunity to try again cause of my work. You’re right, we have to take it really seriously and I recommend to get one or two hours of training in a driving school (few schools give that opportunity), it cost 5000 yens but it can save so much time and money. I saw so many people trying the test without getting any training before. Some don’t know how to pass a gear, some don’t look left-right... There’re fools!

Just found this video. Did the test this morning already haha. This would have been super super helpful! I wasn't converting an international license. I was doing the 400cc. Nobody passed on my day, out of ~25 people. I failed on the hill stop, it is required to stop for 30secs. The instructor kept telling to try again but my Japanese isn't good enough so I had no idea why he was shouting and I just returned the bike to the start haha. The biggest challenges I found: Information (Japanese) overload. You are not going to pass without a very clear and relaxed mental state. So being absolutely sure of what you will be doing in advance, this includes lining up, swapping safety gear etc. The feel of the bike. It was my first time riding the CB400 and it felt very foreign to me. Correct gloves. You can even grab those white 7/11 riding gloves but don't take (like I did) winter pedestrian gloves lol. Anyways, they rescheduled me for three weeks from now, with better prep I'll be okay. Although there is clearly a different standard for native Japanese. The friend I made failed for his eighth time today. Thanks for the video!!!!!!

TIP: I'm on my way to take small bike license test for the third time. There's an 'emergency stop' section with entry speed requirements, cones, and lines painted on the pavement. When your front tire crosses the vibes, all fingers must be on the handlebar grips, not on the clutch/brake levers. I kept 2 fingers on each which led to a fail. Thanks for this video!

One way to know exactly what they're looking for (and this is true for both bike & standard licenses) is to pay the nominal fee for the training class(es)/practice course(s). They tell you everything they'll be looking for at that specific course and you're welcome to ask questions. If your Japanese isn't that great, I believe you're welcome to bring an interpreter and they may even have them available. There's always a slew of translators at the license center WI are there helping other immigrants and you may be able to find one there and offer to pay for their services.

hey, love it, but can you please explain the difference between converting a foreign license vs just getting one from scratch? what is the advantage of converting, you still need to take a written and road test either way. Is the ‘from scratch’ road test/eritten test a lot harder?
@team819s
@team819s 4 года назад
Hey! If you can convert, it will be a lot faster and cheaper. The paper and driving test are not required for all countries. Check if they are required for a license from your country. When converting, if you have to do the the tests: the paper test is only 10 true or false questions and there are non-Japanese tests. For the driving test, they are a little more lenient with the rules, especially the time for the "ippon bashi" (balance beam). If you ask 100 Japanese people how to get your license, 100 will say go to driving school. If you try and get it from scratch, you should go to driving school. Driving school is pretty expensive. www.koyama.co.jp/english/english_02_01.html It will run about $1200-2500 USD depending on the license. It takes a long time but you will get a good education. It IS possible to get it without going to driving school but it's extremely difficult. I believe that the test is 100 questions and is only available in Japanese. The driving test will follow all the rules strictly. There is also a belief that they will fail you intentionally several times so that you have to continue paying to be retested. I haven't heard of many people having that problem recently but it may still exist in some places. If you have any more questions, please ask!

Great video mate! Quick question - how do you memorise the track? Like they gave me two options Track A & B. For my driving test, the instructor was sitting next to me in the car and was directing. Would it be similar for the bike test as well? Or do you memorise the track and all the turns that you need to make? Also is there an order of doing the obstacles? Thanks
@team819s
@team819s 3 года назад
Hey! Sorry for the late reply. I am pretty surprised that they gave you two tracks. I have not heard of that before. It might be something new. I don't think the course should be difficult to memorize. You can arrive early and walk around. For the bike test, the instructor will meet everyone as a group and will tell you the order in which you will take the test and a few instructions. He will head to a tower where he can see the whole course. He can speak to you through a speaker on the bike. I can't remember if you can talk back to him but I think you can. You have to memorize the map so the obstacles will be done in the order that they are on the course. You can't choose the order or change it. I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, leave a comment.

@@team819s thank you for sharing that information. I guess, what I was concerned about was probably missing a turn or maybe not doing it in the right order. Is it in a numeric order? Also, when you come to a complete stop, are you supposed to put both your feet on the ground or just one?

@okinawagaijin9344
@okinawagaijin9344 20 дней назад
you'd be right. Look right first, as that's where the traffic closest to you comes from first. Then left, then right. I'm not 100 % sure if it's required to keep this exact order for the test, but I've been driving in Japan for close to 10 years now and picked up on that pretty quickly. It just makes sense from a logical point of view. It was the other way around in Germany. Also now enlisted in a driving school to get my medium bike license.

16:40 When doing this obstacle do you engage the throttle/rev the engine (not sure if this is the right wording) while at the same time engage the clutch for every time you encounter a bump? Or what exactly are you doing with the clutch and throttle when doing this obstacle?
@team819s
@team819s 2 года назад
Hey! I had to think about how to explain this. If you have any off road riding experience, you should know about feathering the clutch. What I mean is, don't think of the clutch as engaged or disengaged. You want to use very small movements and let the clutch slip a little. The throttle should also give just enough power to get your over the bumps. You don't want to hear the bike revving really hard. It's a dance between a bit of power and enough clutch engagement to get the bike over the obstacles. If you can practice somewhere, find a place with a 6-10 cm bump (where there is not other traffic or people), and try to go over it as slowly as possible. It's not hard once you've tried it a few times.

I checked around online and a half helmet is for motorcycles under 125cc. Open face helmets are ok. The difference - half helmet only covers the top of your head. Open face helmets cover the top of your head, the back of your head and your ears. This page has pictures of the different types: www.police.pref.kanagawa.jp/mes/mesf0168.htm They did not openly check during our test, but you should make sure your helmet has the proper "P S C" safety sticker on it. That means is is certified for use on the road. There is also a JIS sticker that is ok. Good luck on your test!! Leave a comment when you pass!

If you have a Maryland license, you are lucky because you don't need to take the tests. It's one in 50 so I doubt it. You can definitely get through it without speaking Japanese but you need to be patient. There were two other people in my group that kept asking me to help translate. One woman passed and followed me all the way to the end to translate for her. If you have a friend or coworker that can go with you to the test center, you might be able to relax a little more. Don't focus on language, focus on the safest most accurate way to ride through the course. They want to know you are a safe rider, not that you speak Japanese fluently. If you are here permanently, study Japanese. You will have a way better life if you can communicate. I have met people that speak like native speakers and do not read at all. That is a good start. Speak as much as you can. 20 minutes to an hour a day. Try the Shadowing books (if you can read hiragana / katakana) or Glossika or some other course that focuses on repeating sentences. You can get to upper-intermediate conversation in 3-6 months if you speak everyday. Go for it! Life (in Japan) is amazing with a motorcycle! Good luck!

Sorry for the late reply. It may depend on the track but from the stories that I have heard, you do not. I have one Japanese friend that does not have a motorcycle license and races at racetracks every weekend. Also, they say "circuit" 「サーキット」 not track in Japan.
