Motorcycle Petcock Rebuild Repair 1998 to 2006 Suzuki Katana GSX600F. Is your motorcycle leaking gas on the floor? Maybe your engine crankcase or air box is filling up with gas and your not sure why. It could be that your vacuum operated fuel petcock needs to be rebuilt. In this video I describe exactly how the vacuum operated fuel petcock works, including how to test your petcock (no tools necessary using your mouth) to see if it needs to be rebuilt. Once you have determined if it needs rebuilding, I provide you with the exact part numbers you need (for around 20 dollars) to make it 100% new again. Don't buy new when you can easily rebuild your existing and save a pile of money. It's EASY. This is a step by step DIY Do It Yourself guide with closeups to help you rebuild your fuel petcock hassle free.

Just watched this for 1st time. Got a 85 gs 300 with frozen petcock given to me. Put 500 mi on before putting up for winter repairs. Looks like 2 stroke carb diaphragm, only mounted on petcock stem. KOOL! Now without any manual I got an idea what I'm facing. Great videos! You definitely have a skill for teaching, Brandon! Please continue using it! 👍👍😁

2004 Kat: Trouble getting bike to start; will turn over, takes a while to start, but won't stay running. Then, will turn over but won't start. Your tutorial just clued me in that I may not have a vacuum, when in the On position. Haven't tried turning over bike in Prime, though. Thanks for the ejumication. LOL

Bruh, please while filming turn the Fan OFF. It is noisy as helllllll. I agree with your Safety Assessment, but, it also prevents vapor lock and gas in your engine oil. Nice Vid.

I've bought the Same bike 2005 with 12000 km on it Nov 2019 it looks like the last (original owner) took really good care of it but its still an old bike you have show me a there is some maintenance things that will need my attention thanks for doing these. Much appreciated thanks learning a lot

Congratulations! You are going to love it! They are pretty much bullet proof. Keep the oil changed and regular maintenance and it will last a very long time. I have a complete series on this bike. I went through everything. I love mine. It's my daily driver even though I also own a 2015 ninja 1000, the katana is still my preferred daily.

This video certainly helped me as I have reversed the white plate meaning that Ihave not sufficient fuel flow and a pinking noise from the pet cocky when the bike is running idle. Which it does very poorly because of the insufficient fuel supply. Thank you for sharing this video.

Don’t you just love those “safety “ spouts on gas cans these days? They make a replacement back to the old fashion spout and an aftermarket vent. Got mine at Tractor Supply but I’m sure they’re everywhere now days as fed up as people are with those.

OK 2 things the paper gasket go in between the diagram and the vacuum cover n the big o ring go between the petcock n the tank. That's how you use all the parts.

@@BrandonLund did you ever find this out ? , yes the large O - Ring does go on the petcock between it and the tank ,the paper gasket on a Pre 98 Katana goes into the petcock rebuild as mentioned on the 5th picture from the bottom on this rebuild link katriders.com/forum/service-department/katana-how-to-s-faq-s/48357-pre-kat-petcock-rebuild-pictorial-and-walkthru , however i have not yet found out for sure on the post 98 katana.

Great! Thank you for information! By the way, do you happen to know what is the hose on the left side? I am looking for information regarding that one, but I can not find it anywhere...
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 4 года назад
Thank you. Are you referring to the one on the bottom of the tank where the hose connects? I believe that one is a vent. The one that goes to the peacock is a vaccume hose.
@ionut-stefandinu9302
@ionut-stefandinu9302 4 года назад
@@BrandonLund Thank you for answering! I was referring to the empty channel on the Petcock from minute 5:02. The one on the back is for vacuum and the one on the right (where you have the transparent hose) is for fuel. In this case, what is the one on the left for?

I need that little circular spring that pushing the vale open when in prime. I've managed to mess mine up.
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 3 года назад
Click the link in the description. It's not much money and I can confirm it's a quality part. Zero issues installing it and zero issues to this day.

@@BrandonLund thanks for responding Brandon. Unfortunately the spring that I need isn't in the kit. It sits being the tap and it's fitted in the the bore right behind the plastic cone. The spring the actuates the plunger or valve when in prime. This is assisted by the vacuum when not in prime. Can't find the sprinted clip anywhere. I did however managed to make one out of a paper clip. Let's hope it doesn't rust up. Works very well but it hasn't to be made very accurately.

Hey! Hopefully you’re still looking at comments to this video. I ordered a replacement before I saw this video and (of course) it doesn’t work. I’ll most likely order the same replacement kit you were showing, but I was wondering if you might know if this is normal or not. If I have my tank sitting normally, it doesn’t leak in the ON position, however, if I tilt it onto its side, it begins to produce a small stream of fuel. You think this may be because of the pressure? Or is this normal?
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund Год назад
If its on its side it will leak. Its pretty common for these to go bad and dry out over time especially if you rarely ever use the valve like most of us. The diaphram is designed to keep it sealed when in the normal position.

Got my 04 katana 600gsxf carbs just rebuilt a long with petcock , petcock leaking from the fuel line when running, could it just be fuel line or petcock?
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund Год назад
It sounds like a fuel line but it's hard to say without seeing it
@DexMaster881
@DexMaster881 4 года назад
Altho this looks very easy there's actually 10 ways in total you can F it up :) Major one being if you Pull out the round plastic ,or if it falls out there's a leaf snail spring under that bends really easy. Not to mention you can turn it 180 and than nothing works. Repair kit is for the Bandit also so it has extra parts. And don't put Vaseline on Suzuki's they turn gay XD
@BrandonLund

I think if you take your time and watch how things come out it's actually pretty fool proof from my experience. I had never done this before and it actually went pretty smooth with no issues.

Does PRI allow all fuel to come out as on RES?
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 года назад
That is correct! PRI is used to fill the fuel bowls when they are empty without requiring any vaccume

How do you remove the petcock filter on this bike?
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 4 года назад
I havent removed mine yet but there are 2 small bolts that hold the assembly to the tank.
@thetechiemech1486
@thetechiemech1486 3 года назад
you have to undo the 2 screws from the petcock holding it to the tank, pull the petcock out carefully as the filter is long, then what you do is slowly wiggle very gently the filter and pull very slightly and it will come out and off the petcock.
