The registry he went to for the exam is the one I went to for my class 5 test, the examiner I got was an absolute chad, super chill made me feel at ease while taking the test, passed and am now looking to get a motorcycle. I'll definitely take the exam here if I commit.
***July 2022 UPDATE: thanks so much for the positive feedback, glad to hear my video helped a TON of you pass your road tests! I've received an overwhelming amount of requests to ride, and unfortunately with my schedule this summer it's unlikely I will be able to take anyone out. For that, head over to the New Riders Edmonton group, otherwise I can help with pre-exam clarification questions. I am also in the process of making a part 2 for this video based on the questions I've received. If you have ideas for topics to cover, let me know and I'll try my best to add it to part 2. Ride safe! Follow me on Instagram: @ride.yeg
You nailed everything you said. I got dinged for every thing you mentioned like exaggerating shoulder checks, lane positioning and belive it or not driving too slow in a residential area after a school zone finished.
have my class 6 tomorrow morning, i have watched this video atleast 5 times a day for almost a week straight now hoping that i will remember everything!
Thanks for the video. 👍. Doing my test here in Ontario for my full M license on August 13th. Looks like a Suzuki Boulevard M90 in your video. That’s the bike I’m doing my test with. Safe riding 🏍
Hey best of luck. Glad I was able to help someone in another province. Are the rules pretty similar to yours? Any differences you wouldn’t mind sharing?
Thank you for the video, it really helped me to pass my class 6 today. You seem like a great dude and mentor for new riders. Cheers and safe riding! edit: was almost bittersweet watching him ride away with his licence at the end. 'There he goes' Hope you guys have went riding again!!
That means a lot to me, I’m glad it helped you get your 6! And you’re right about the bittersweet feeling - being the witness for someone riding away on their own as a 6 really is special.
Hello just got my learners and I’v been watching youre videos, I hoping that I can ride with you next time to give me tips and hints before my road test, great videos hope to hear from you. Thanks
Hi, Thanks for posting this video, great insight on riding safely and the road test. I had rode a few dirt bikes in my day but very little time on a street bike. I bought my first street bike on May 4, a 2019 Indian Scout Bobber, went for two rides with a friend, watched a few videos, and decided to book a road test on May 16, to learn if nothing else. The road test lasted about 45 minutes. The evaluation had just one recommendation about slowing too much at a crosswalk before a yield. It was awesome! I booked a riders course prior to the road test, but it’s in July, still gonna do that of course. I’ve had my Class 5 since 1990, just to add clarity to my story.
Hardest was to start driving uphill, was practicing with clutch, but using brake was obligatory. Last minute readjustment rushed my blood. All good. Good memories of 2001
Thanks for this video. I've been riding for 8 years and I have a week left on my class 6 written test. So I'm ripping the bandiad off and getting it done. I appreciate the insight, I'll be taking some notes to ask the examiner ahead of time.
Awesome video man! Thanks for doing this! If you have some time to spare I would love some help in getting my license here. I have been piloting for a long time now, but not in Canada. Looking forward to learn the rules here!
Hey man. Solid vdo! I DM’d you on IG but never got a response. Was Hoping to get some tips and advice from you on the road. Planning to take my road test soon. If that’s possible, do let me know how to proceed.
I see I got very lucky, there is no way I would pass a motorcycle test now right off the street. I did mine in 1998 when I was 16. The test lady came to my small town but she was in a hurry or something because all I did on my bike was shower the lights and horn worked. No road test and I failed the written test but the registry lady still let it slide haha. The first time I rode the my street bike “ 1980 Suzuki gs1000 “was to town to do the road test that I didn’t do. This Was in Alberta
Glad I found this site. I'm 67, retired and decided I want to finally get my 1st bike and go riding. Is there a training place for beginners? And how do they do the exam with a hearing impaired person, I cannot communicate by headsets. I can hear with hearing aids but I have to lipread as well. Thanks.
I was failed by the Drive Test instructor because I slowed down too much to make a turn. It was a 2 lane highway. One lane going one way and one lane going the other way. The right hand turn lane was really short and she said I should have maintained my speed and only slowed down in this short turn lane. I tried to tell her my reasoning but she wasn't hearing it. She even told me she'd rather see someone go too fast, than too slow. To make matters worse, there's no more appointments available now. So frustrating!
I’m sorry to hear that. That’s surprising they would say that, I also wish there would be more consistency between instructors. Best of luck when you’re able to book your next one. Where did you take the test?
@@RideYEG Thanks! Yes I was really surprised as well. There's definite lack of consistency among the instructors. I was worried about going too fast because all the videos warned about that being an automatic fail. Meanwhile, that would have actually saved me in the end. I tried finding information about exiting speed when using a turn lane on a highway. But all I could find was info on big Freeway's like the 401. It was in Pembroke, Ontario.
@@Shannon_Robbie Yeah I totally agree with you. Speed is a factor in the vast majority of accidents and slowing down drastically reduces that while increasing reaction time. I’m sure you’ll get it on the next one. Keep me posted on how it goes. Ride safe✌️
About speeds at 8 minutes, I think all vehicles actually read fast. My Subaru Impreza reads about 5km/h faster than I'm actually going. It's probably a good error to have - nobody wants surprise speeding tickets.
i hope ill pass, bought a brand new honda navi at 16 by myself. tons of work going into insuring it, booking tests, and even just finding a dealer with the bike in stock anywhere in alberta.
@@RideYEG im near Edmonton i live in Leduc. i had a Honda ruckus i drove for nearly 3 summers and put probably 5k km on it and 3k km last summer alone on it. so i have lots of seat time for something like that. just the little things like the weird parking lane ill have to remember but i did fine when i did my drivers test and i feel more comfortable on a bike then car right now so i hope i do good. its killing me not being able to drive a new bike.
@@silas.anderson Thats great to hear how much riding you've got. Been wanting to try a Ruckus for a while as I love little bikes - not sure if you saw my Grom content haha. Best of luck though let me know how it goes.
@@RideYEG no i haven't but i for sure will check it out. ruckus' are great just don't expect much from a stock one. mine i modified a ton and got 80 kmh out of it while still being 50cc. easiest thing you could work on too. for example, don't like the seat? that ok, 6 bolts and you can swap in a shorter one.
Yeah the US is nothing like that he go for written test you get your permit can you go back for a driver's test in order to get your motorcycle license
I had my road test at that same location with the same examiner. My experience was the worst. He was screaming in the microphone in the main road cause I wasn’t going fast enough and he was panicking. He put me on edge and needless to say I did not pass my road test.
I’m really sorry to hear you had an experience like that. Sounds incredibly traumatizing - exams are already stressful enough on their own. Will you be retesting in the new year?
I would LOVE some help and training in preparing for my class 6 road test! I am precisely anxious about not having enough practice to feel confident enough while many of my riding friends live quite far from me & it feels like a big ask to have them come to me consistently so I can practice.
Hey, I'm from UK been riding 15+ years. Over in Alberta now and have to take bike test again which is amusing! After turning right (and hugging the right side), Is signalling left with indicator as you move over to left side of lane mandatory?
It depends, but I believe if you are moving from right to left within a clearly defined lane then you do not need to signal (but you need to shoulder check). Often these are not clearly defined painted lanes in residential areas so in that case I would recommend shoulder checking and signalling. Ride safe!
Short Guy! What's the limit to holding up bike is both feet touching ground? Fully flat? Tip toes? In between? Was able to tip toe with Honda CB750 road bike.
I don’t have social media and iam in edmonton cause I work up north but would like to join group to get help with getting the confidence for my road test in a year how do I contact someone
Hm for me I’m quite confident about riding technique and ability as I’ve owned tons of dirt bikes etc before this is just the first bike I’m legally registering/ riding lol .. I’m more concerned with the specifics on road test like the “grey areas” as mentioned in video. For example I heard your supposed to stay in the right hand portion of lane when going through intersection where someone is turning left, but left side if your turning at the same time as vehicles across from you to give you more space in case they take too wide of a turn. Then I’ve heard contradictory statements that all make some sense in their own right. Also when making a turn I get on roads like those, staying tight, signalling etc before moving to main part of lane. What about in a more congested area where there are vehicles parked or marked as parking areas on the side of curb, would you still ride in that lane and signal over in both situations? Or just move to main part at the start
Awesome video.. I'm from red deer and new rider ..wondering if you know of anyone around red deer willing to help a guy out. Practice practice practice hard to do without someone with ya.
I’d put in a request to the new riders Edmonton group and see if there are any in Calgary. There might even be some smaller ones in red deer. Alternatively you can join local groups in red deer similar to your bike type etc.
This was very useful thank you. I wonder if there is a group like this in Calgary? Also i wonder if anyone has a ball-park figure on cost of full licensing is in Alberta, I am originally from BC.
Moved to Crooked Creek near Grande Prairie from Ontario...I was licensed there but my M2 expired. I commuted to work for a season and a half in the toronto area. Should I be fine to hit the test?
Hey, my question may sound silly, how to drive to a motorcycle test without a license what happens if cop pulls over when I drive to a test without a license. Is there some kind off learner license?
You cannot drive to the exam on your own. Technically as a learner, you will need to be chaperone or supervised by a fully licensed class 6 at all times. Including when you’re heading to the exam.
can you buy and own a motorcyle in alberta even without a class 6 license? and can you drive it with a class 5 license and with a escort just like what you are doing now?
Can you get motorcycle insurance and plate for a bike with class 5 while practicing on the streets with a licensed riding partner here preparing for class 6 exam?
@@RideYEG Got it. Some insurance companies offer, others don't. Once insurance is ready, getting the registration and plate wouldn't be an issue with a class 5. Thank you.
I'm in Edmonton and could use someone to ride with me. I very new rider and want to go for my road test by end of the year. I am close to 50 st and 118ave need to find r Registry in that area
