I do see this was a little fast, but i really struggle with showing away this to people who dont know how fusion works. But, i can link to a guy who does it way better than me. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hs9G6w5sTiA.html
@@Meraki.Melodies I will see what i can put together... is there any thing in particular you would like to see or just travel maps with different features in general? Cheers
@@Meraki.Melodies Aaahh... so you want to see more of the whole process of editing a travel video in Davinci, not just the animated maps or text layers etc?
@@Meraki.Melodies I'm working on a project as we speak on how i make my videos from start to finish, that may be the exact thing you are looking for. I have not used to much time on it yet, because of the weather and getting all the footage, but it will be finished before the year ends 😇
Wow, this is incredible! I knew it was possible to do this in Fusion, but I always assumed it would be a much more complicated process. Not only did you show that it's easy to do, but you explained it incredibly well. Thank you!
There's a few tutorial videos on creating a travel map but yours is the one I keep coming back to as you show all the mouse clicks. I stuggled a bit with setting initial resolution of the images but got there in the end. Thanks for you help. I've seen a few of your vodeos too... such a stunning country you live in! Cheers.
Thank you sir, so glad to hear that! I was not sure i would make good tutorials when i made, so to hear people finding it useful means alot to me 👍🔥 yeah, i live in a dream country for two wheels, only downside is the constant shifting weather
Well that was spooky... I came here looking for a way to animate a map in Resolve for a motorbike trip I did a while ago from Bergen to the North Cape. Your demo started on the exact route I followed!
Haha, great mind’s think alike 😉 glad to hear you found the video informativ. I’m currently planing a trip from Bergen to Northcape summer 2021 my self. Stay safe mate
Been using DR for 2 years making adventure bike videos and never touched Fusion. I really wanted to animate a map like this for a long time after watching Brent Pearson's videos. I really found this helpful, easy to follow and I just did a map with ease. Thanks so much man, A+ video here!!!
Amazing! I’ve never used much of the fusion side of davinci... I’ve never needed to. However, il be travelling when restrictions are lifted and this is exactly what I’ve been looking for!!!
Fusion is a incredible tool for easy animations. Nice to get some understanding for it! Will make a huge difference in production value 👍🏻 glad you liked the video... cheers 🔥
I think it's really great of you that you post references to other RU-vidrs (this is your second video I watch and your second referral). I once downloaded Resolve but I must admit I was intimidated by all its functionality (and this video of yours really demonstrates what level of specific knowledge you need as a user to get the most of it).
It is common courtesy to refer to the people who you learned the skill you show away in your own video 👏🏻 Well. I was completely new to this software myself 2 years back, but if you put the time and effort in it, you have one incredible tool and edit with ease down the line. But yes, like with everything else in life... you need to invest some time to understand the most of it. Cheers mate
Thank you Sir 😃 Glad you found it helpful and understand what i said 🤣 making tutorials is not what i do best, but i try to share my passion and he small things i know about this stuff. Cheers 🍻
Well Tony, there is alot of great creators out there doing really good tutorials on how davinci works and various tips. I started out without any knowledge about a year ago. Investing time in the software will make everything so much easier down the line 👏🏻
Thomas Hansen I sure did and will use it in my next film. I also looked at some of your camping gear tips - we use very different machines but have the same constraints when it comes to the size and volume of what we can bring with us. I might upgrade my camping chair to the « ground chair » (I have the other one)
@@fredstork Fantastic 👏🏻glad to hear that mate. Haha, i just saw some of your videos, being a pilot was one of my biggest dream when i was younger, but my size made impossible to become or try to become i pilot in the airforce. The ground chair is fantastic 👍🏻Stay safe 🔥
Yeah, i just notice that you can do the same things in motion! I dont use final cut, so i was not aware of this. Can’t wait to see how you animate your maps in the future! Always nice to see others take on the same technique
When I want to make multiple compositions, i.e. for different sections of a long trip, I would be using a different background map and of course changing the red route path. Are there ways to copy the first composition and trade out those two elements without creating an entirely new fusion composition? I really like this composition method so far. It's the clearest and most direct instruction I have found for these animated route maps.
Hello Charlie, so glad to hear you found this video helpful. Yes, you can copy all the nodes, and paste them in another fusion composition. And just delete the node that contains the keyframes for the path. And change the media node that contains the map layer. Just drag and hold over every node, control or cmd + C and cmd + V to paste. Hope this explains how you could do it without doing everything all over again. With this method you just need to attach a new map/picture and draw a new line, then animate it. Saves a ton of work. Cheers
There is a lot of different ways you can get the same result in Davinci, but you need a little bit of understanding of the different nodes to make it work like you want. To polygon you can add most png and images. Just make the center x&y to animate on the polygon.
Someone once told me that it's all in the details, and i do think your audience deserve the best of you every time. Taking their time to enjoy your content 👏🏻
Thanks for sharing this. Fantastic and very clear. When I go to fusion I also have a media in and out for another animation to be used in my video, and I’m struggling creating another one for the maps. Do you have any tips?
You already have one animation created between the media in and media out? And you want to add another one? Just put in before the media out. you can add as many media IN as you want, as long as its going down the same pipeline and end up in a media out. everything can be individually animated etc.
Thank you Joones... i get alot of question about this so i found it better to try and show how i do it. I do understand it can be difficult if you dont understand fusion, but it is what it is 😇
Hi Thomas, I came across your video (RU-vid algorithm no doubt!!!) and it's great. But i have a long way to get through the basic learning steps fo DVR!!! Nice work my find. You've always done....nice work. Thanks.
Thank you Roger. This is one of my older videos, I can see how uncomfortable I am in front of the camera 🙈 But a great reminder how far I have come. The basics on DVR is something that will make your life so much easier when you nail. I really love this software
@tshansen funny you say that about what you consider your discomfort in front of the camera. I didn’t notice that. I only saw that you seem to be carefully selecting your words as you spoke.
I have wanted to be able to do something like this for a long time. In the past my ideal would have been that some software created the effect from an imported .gpx, but learning it like this opens up much more options, and helps me along with learning Davinci - thank you. My screen shot maps distort (aspect ratio) when I 'resize'... Is there a neat way to make my screen shots at the correct aspect ratio from the outset? Oh, and the pointer to MrAlexTech is a great tip... I'm working through his beginner playlist at the moment.
Yeah, you can use a background node merged with the media in, and put a transform node on it and scale it that way! Mr Alex is a great source for info about this
i did it mate!!!!!!! i did it. So my problem was the image quality. You use google maps from mac and you have quality screen shots.... in order to have a bigger image i used the google earth app in windows. (about 4.5 mb per image) otherwise is possible to use vectorial image but for non professional use google is ok for my opinion. Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuu
Hi I love you Channel especially the map creation for DaVinci , I’d love if you could let me know how you move and zoom the map in fusion, I am struggling to work that out, I’m sure it’s simple, I’m using a MacBook Thanks in advance
Hello Kevin, and thank you for checking my video out. You want to zoom in and out when you are using the paint node? This is done with the command butten pressed and scroll the mouse wheel. If you don't use a mouse I think the same goes for the trackpad. If you want to zoom in and out on the animation you need to put in a transform node at the end, right before media out and keyframe the position. you can see how this is done in my outline map video
Excellent ! Took me hours trolling through Google to find this exact video. Sorry i can not double like this but... Thankyou, As a bonus i just found your video on the Klim pro helmet i have been thinking of.... You got a Sub from me, great content, keep up the good work!
Haha... glad you found this video then. I know exactly how frustrating it can be to find "how to's" on good ideas i would like to add to my videos. Cheers mate 👏🏻
Finally the mystery clears :) Thanks for that. I haven't given Davinci any time yet. Still, is there a way to use a gpx file in any way? Hand drawing all your routes is a lot of work it seems.
It is a really great way to get some animations done for whatever other software you use for editing 😊It may be a option to do so, but i have not yet found out how and what. Will send some messages to some of the online davinci gurus and see what they can help me with 🔥it is not that much work when you understand how fusion works. And for a 5 to 10 sec clip on youtube, i dont see the point of beeing 100% accurate 🙈
I think route/track animation is a great addition to ride videos and a lot viewers ask for route/track. I have used screenshots from BaseCamp in some videos to show where I did my ride. But animation is of course a lot cooler. I have experimented a bit with a software that is able to import GPX-files and animate it on a map. (even multiple GPX files to animate more than one rider at a time. So far it seems to be OK. See link to a video I have made below, still experimenting with the software. If you use a GPX recorded by you GPS you will also get date and the time progress showing in the video. It works well on Mac, I have not tested in Windows yet. Will probably use this software in the future. It is called GPX Animator. Will post a link under here. Happy riding and filming !! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kY0dgTDs9Vs.html
Thank you Sir... 👍🏻You want the map to cover the whole screen? you just drag a Fusion composition down to your timline, and the map (MEDIA IN) you attach will be the map you see for the whole duration of that fusion composition you just draged to the timeline. when you are finished with the map animation you can drag the whole fusion clip from the timeline into the Power Bins and reuse it like drag and drop. if you need to change the map or the animated line, you just change the media in node and the mask paint node. Hard to describe this with words...but i hope you did get something out of it. Cheers
When you watch it on the timeline or after the project is done? Some times this effect takes some time to render. Have you out playback-render at user?
You can go into the Keyframe window in the right top corner and adjust the keyframing of the animation, or you can do it in the spline window where you adjust the keyframing. I'm not sure how good you are with Davinci so it is a pain to try to describe it with text. You can find alot of videos about this. Cheers
Thanks Thomas for this easy to follow video. It took two attempts to get it right but at last, I managed it. One thing I can not seem to do is at 2.34 you zoom into the map. How is this done I'm missing something. Last night I did my first video using your technique, and have also mastered the audio ducking. Keep these helpful videos coming. Crosstourer Tony
Thank you Tony... to zoom into the map, or picture in Fusion you need to hold down the command key or control key and scroll your mouse wheel. If you dont have a wheel on your mouse, you can go up to the corner of the window that show's x amount of % and adjust it manually. To move around on the picture after zooming in just press and hold the mousewheel. Glad to hear you found use of it mate. Stay safe and keep on rocking 🔥
Hello There, Thank you for this amazing tutorial. I wanna ask you whether we can make an amazing Vox Atlas standard map animation with DaVince Resolve too ? Does fusion works with json and jsx files ? Please help me with my question. I will be grateful 😊
I’m glad you ask, because i have been trying to figure this out myself. And to be honest, i’m not quite sure yet! But i hope to find something similar or to use files across plattforms
Great video man, just what i needed. I did exactly the same yesterday, everything worked fine. But today i look at it again, and in the middle of the animation, the screen goes black. I made 2 animations and it does it in both. Just in the middle of the route, black screen. Any idea what it could be?
What version of the Davinci are you using? I have never experienced this my self. Are you only doing the animation? not adding anything else? is the screen going black only In the fusion page or is it the same when you go to the edit page and watch it?
I made this video on the free version, now i have the studio version? Yes you can do this on the free version? What write on can’t you do? With the mask paint?
Great tutorial - I've managed to do exactly the same with my own route. Do you know how I can slow down the animation of the polygon reveal though please?
Nice video. I bought a DJI Osmo 3 and started using Davinci Resolve because of this channel (your fairly recent video showing camera setup, colour correction etc.) It broke down the barriers for me and made me think I could do it. I watch a lot of motorbike travel videos, and always am looking to see if I can work out exactly which roads are ridden on in the video. So few creators bother to put maps in. I really appreciate people taking the time to do that. I will do it for my videos when the weather is good enough for me to make some. Anyway, question: have you looked at Google Earth Studio? It's possible to do really fancy stuff, I have been playing with it, but I wonder if it is actually worth doing that, 3d fly-throughs etc. over a simple, clear map like you draw in this video. There is something about the clarity of a more cartographic map, rather than the satellite/aerial imagery in google earth.
That gives me a lot of joy to hear mate... My goal was to make it as easy to understand as possible. So many that covers colour correction does not talk to the absolute beginner. It is a craft by its own, but small simple steps can make such a huge difference even for a beginner. And when you feel you master the small things, you can move on and try to learn even more about colour grading. It is quite fun when you get the hang of it. I have looked at google earth studio a couple of times, I feel some times it is quite choppy and laggy. It spins in a strange way and I have a hard time controlling it to make a good result. I always try to do stuff that most other dont. Most people use google earth, so I think it is a little bit overused. It is much more fun to find an other creative way to show where you are and where you are planing to ride. Write on a piece of paper? marker on a travel map etc.
@@tshansen yes there are quite a lot of interesting videos on RU-vid specifically about maps in DR. And I take your point about Google earth. Hard to control the tilt and zoom to keep the area of interest in shot. Keep on 👍🏻
This was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for a very easy to grasp video. Now I have a problem that the image becomes blurry when I enter edit mode or try to render it. It looks super clear in fusion mode, but when I render or enter edit it looks like someone removed half the pixel from a VHS tape image. I've got two weeks to find and answer before I go on my travels and my family at home expects frequent updates.
What size is the image you bring into fusion? Do you have proxy Enable? What happen if you export it and look at the video? Still blurry or just in the Edit timeline?
@@tshansen The final product was blurry as well, but I found the solution. Turns out my timeline resolution was turned way down. I don't usually play around with that, and I've only used Resolve for a few basic projects so far, so I did't think to check it at first. Switched it to 1920x1080 HD resolution and now my render looks great. Thanks anyway!
Editing is my next challenge. I have lots of video footage from trips, but I want to stitch them together with some editing. Question: Video's take a lot of memory. Do you just use the Mac for the editing but store the video clips and final version on an external drive?
Editing is without a doubt one of the biggest challenges for most people. It takes time to master. But so rewarding when you nail it. I use my Mac for editing and I store some of my clips on external SSD's. I will probably get myself a nas system or something that I can store more of my unedited clips in the future. But until now I have deleted most files after a year that is not edited or made videos of.
Just out of curiosity why do you use a background then mask paint, I do the same thing but just the polygon tool, select the colour i want then plot the route. I have seen the way are doing it a few times but have never worked out why. Goo video tho EDIT: i see that this is not really a davinci channel after looking at a few of your other videos, pls don't take any negatives from the comment i made. Your tourer video are fantastic, i would love to travel and tour like that but i don't ride a motor bike, some of the places you have been to look beautiful. I hike on foot so cant cover as many mile as you do lol. gonna sub to your channel
No worries mate! The reason i use a background and mask paint is to have more control if i want to animate more to the Line! There is many different ways to do this the same way 👏🏻🔥 Cheers mate
It is not that much work actually, but i see how it can look like alot of work 🤣I think the small things like this add so much more value to the videos, and makes more people want to watch the content you create. And it is really good practise to understand more of the animations etc for future content 😊Sky is the limit tjommi 🤣
Hey dude, I tried to follow what you did and when I'm creating the lines and try to map it doesn't connect like yours, all I get are circles of the colour red. so its looks like it's freehanded and it doesn't look good. Do you know why?
@@tshansen Ya I didn't click the polyline stroke. Cool, it works :D. Can I save the fusion clip and then use it later? Then I just need to change the map and remap it? Thanks
It depends on what effect you want, if you want the line to ease in or out, you can do it in the spline editor (top right corner of the fusion page) or if you want the whole thing to go faster, you can go into the keyframe editor (top right corner in the fusion page) and adjust and drag the keyframe around there. Hope that helps. Cheers 🔥
I have succesfully use this method a couple of times. I now have upgraded to Davinci Resolve 17, and now I no longer can animate under stroke controls. Is this method not working anymore?
Thank you for pointing this out! I’m on the version 17 myself, and still use it! Maybe it is hidden under a different section? I will take a look at it tomorrow when i’m off work and update if there is something missing. Cheers
@@tshansen Sorry my mistake. It still works :-) I accidently used the multistroke, and that you can't animate. Using stroke as you do still works in Davinci Resolve 17 :-D
Hello! M a beginner and stuck in a silly problem. Please help. I'm in Fusion tab and have a map imported. By clicking on + and - I can zoom in out in the map. but can't find anything to hold the map and drag up or down. what is the shortcut to hold and drag up down an image in fusion panel like u have done in ur video?
That is not a silly problem, it is quite difficult if you dont have a mouse with a wheel (most Mac dont have it) You need to press down on the mouse wheel like a button and hold it, then drag around. I have not found a hotkey on the keyboard that does the same thing. Need to investiagte this. Hope that helps. Cheers
@@tshansen Thanks dear.. I've found an work around today. Not sure it will happen in Mac, or in any other version of Resolve than latest 18 version that I'm using, but it's working on windows 11- hp pavilion touchpad, provided ur touchpad's tapping is enabled. U need to just tap with 2 fingers on the image/map on the fusion panel to get hold of it. As long as your double tapping is there, u can move the image/map right or left or up and down anywhere with touchpad gestures. Found no information about this in RU-vid. Will be great for beginners, if u can include this in ur next tech vlog.
When i try to draw with the draw mask i can't see the color drawing in the media out. and also when i click to draw the map the brush just crate a dot and don't connect with the line like in yuor case. Can you help me? :)
AMAZING, thank you Thomas for putting the time for this and sharing it!! Now, we will be waiting for some more of course!! 😂 Keep it up Thomas, you're doing great!! 👍
