Motorcycle Trip to Mongolia, Part 7 Baikal Lake and Olkhon Island
After more than 7,000 km we finally reached this holy island. It was a real pleasure for us to ride in this beautiful place. The island is famous spiritual point. We spent the night there and really recharged our batteries with energy for the following weeks. I highly recommend it to each one of you. It's just too good to miss it. The biggest village "Hujir" looks like frozen at the beginning of 20th century. We really enjoyed every single minute there and now we were ready to continue our long motorcycle trip to Mongolia.

Jassima Nasima ,I agree. I find many Western travelers hard to watch, as their videos are all about their egos, and Australians can be some of the worse culprits because, we live on a far away island.

My BMW f800gs adv . Is Not so luxury , but we have a lot of good Tours in Europ . The best Tour is nothing without a cold Beer with theFriends .But in fact there are high priced bikes in all firms . And you can also have fun with a 20.000 € bike . Excuse my bad english, it‘s not my First Language. Greetings from Hamburg Stephan

Here in US, we would call that row of cabins a Motel, rows of little units catering to motor vehicle travelers passing through an area, or along a highly traveled route...Old Lincoln Hwy 30, Route 66, etc...

Another excellent video. It looks like the people on the island are still adjusting to the 21st Century. In a way it's sad that the spiritual centre on the island has to change to meet the needs of tourism and that it seems to be so disorganised.

When you said you were going to ride 700Km to the island, and then come back along the same road, I thought you guys were mad, then I saw the island and Baikal Lake and I realized the trip was worth doing to see just this one thing alone. I think Dima will have many fans too after this trip, he is becoming a bit of a celebrity. Take care and ride safe my friends.

28:40 ..."and here, the main city of Olkhon...looks like a village from the beginning of 20th century" ;-) But it.s necessary to keep some regions in the world away from monster tourism... look at Mallorca, Sylt or Maledives, they were nice islands before, and now? Totally sucked by rich tourists, who don.t live there and the inhabitants stay poor. Nice tour, interesting video to look at! Thumb up!

In some areas in US and Canada they load bikes on ferry first, so you are not cutting the line. And all ferries we have been to in Canada were free, but in US you pay. The place you stayed on Olhon are cabins, they have them in Canada and some parts of US. BTW if you ever get to the great North, Dawson City in Yukon doesn't look much different from Olhon as soon as you get off main street. It is bigger though, but some smaller ones look even worse. Roads definitely worse due to permafrost damage.

I see more blue skys through the Paris of the East, Irkutsk. The island on Lake Baikal looks very interesting for a short stay only, and any longer I'd become an alcoholic. Thanks for showing that part of the lake, I stayed on the Ulan Ude side of the lake and went to Port Baikal. The Lake is so beautiful and deep with blue colour. Your next stop Ulan Ude, my sister-inlaw went to university there. WIll you be passing through Nauski? My sister-inlaws live near there to do business between China-Mongolia-Russia. Pavlin, thanks for letting me feel the freedom when you reach the Lake, I envy this feeling.

Motorcycle Adventures Thanks a lot ! About gloves I guess you have always two during your trips (in case one is wet). Do you sometimes use the Alpinestar Drystar gloves ? P.S : I live in France. I am 34 years old. During many years I was about stunt and speed making mad stuffs, few accidents. But for 2 years I changed my mind like a spiritual revelation : I travel alone. First trip 2000km/4days. This year : goo.gl/photos/SC9YxfkZkhVgKwFw9 Next week I will sell my K1100LT (very good bike ) but I want to reach new horizons like you with Dima. So my 17th bike will be a Freewind ! Warm greetings Lech

sry but why are you talking about taking oil out of your clothes infront of the Mongolian Embassy when you just get your VISA for Mongolia? Why not talking about the much more important things for information like: how long does it took to get the VISA? Is the Embassy always open (normally they are having very short times of opening) How much did the VISA costs and HOW long is it valid?? THATS much more intresting to us, same goes for the hotel costs in different areas. I am a camper and like to sleep like a real adventurer in a tent instead of an Aircon hotel....
@motorcycleadventures
@motorcycleadventures 6 лет назад
I think that I gave more than enough info about the hotels and prices on the road. The visa cost 80$ and was made for 30 min. and it is was for 30 days. The Embassy have a normal working hours.

Those 'luxury extras' would make riding 900km/days a lot easier to bare. While I very much enjoy watching these videos and following the adventure, I can't see the point of it all. Riding 10+ hour days through randomly changing terrain, climate and security situation all to get to Mongolia? Why not just ship your bike to some closer point so that you can ride and actually enjoy/explore more of the landscape. I frankly don't feel the cost/benefit of the trucker-style marathon simply to 'get somewhere'.
@motorcycleadventures
@motorcycleadventures 7 лет назад
The point is to go there and back with the bike. To ship the bike there and back, first is not cheap and second I will feel like I am cheating. I wanted proof to myself that I can do it. Also, how exactly you will see Russia if you never been there? As you said: "Riding 10 + hour days through randomly changing terrain, climate and security situation" Can you have this only in Mongolia? The answer is no! Even that long and bored ride is valuable experience. Now I can say - Yes, I can do it again, if necessary. Different people, different understandings about the trip, how long and where it need to be? I am sure, many people will understand me.
@motocyklowywagabunda7038
@motocyklowywagabunda7038 7 лет назад
You never experience to spirit of adventure if you ship the bike to the destination you want to get, it would be like missing half of the trip.
