Hi I hope you can help me! I bought one of these with the plan to use it. I got it running with two 3.7 V Batteries series and put a Sim Card from Ja! Mobil in it. The phone starts up, recognizes the Sim Card but doesn't find a signal. I looked into the manual wether I need to configure something, unfortunately to no avail. Do you maybe have an idea what the problem might be?
OJa! Mobile uses the Telekom Network. That should be fine. Have you tested the SIM with another GSM Phone like a Startac or Nokia? The Sim Could be incompatible. The other problem could be, that the phone requires too much energy for your battery setup. Blacks the display out when it connects to a Network? Can the phone still make an emergency call like 911. It is not legal without purpose!!!
@@VintageTech Hey, thank you so much for your answer! I unfortunately only have one phone of this age, but I tried three other SIM cards, which didn't work either. The Telekom uses 900Mhz GSM as well, so there shouldn't be any trouble with that (Some service providers use 1800Mhz GSM) The display doesn't black out, no. Also the battery shows as "full". The thing is, the phone can't even find any signal to any provider, it just says "Keine Funkverbindung" and has that little "Ø" sign on the display. I have ordered a new antenna for now, could this be the problem?
@@Pappderbarp I don´t think, that the antenna will solve the problem. The reception of the International phones is so good, that you even don´t need to use the antenna. Is there a ifference with or without sim? My be the problem is the sim card reader in the phone.
In my experience, the Motorola 3000/3300 works with every SimCard out there. These phones represent “THE” GSM standard and like a IBM XT represents the IBM compatible standard of the 80s. Even the newer 3-Volt Sims are backwards compatible with the 5-Volt Sim GSM system which was originally designed and used in the Motorola 3000. Keep in mind that the 3000/3300 models are single band models and require a 900 GSM band network operator. Like Telekom in Germany. The Sim Memory could be a problem, some new sim cards have too much memory, which cannot be accessed by a legacy phone. That could cause problems with SMS storage or the phonebook entry’s.
@@VintageTech Thanks for explaining it so well. This is what I though. I have bought a 3300 and it arrived today. It needs a new antenna and I'm waiting for a charger I've bought to arrive to test the battery (I assume it is dead). I will recell the battery if it isn't working. I've powered the phone with a 7.2v battery pack from something else and it appears to work fine.
You are welcome!!! To recell a battery was my initial Plan, all my batteries are dead too. I initially planed to use a 3,6V LI Cell with a bug converter. Later I tried two Li 3,6V Cells which can put out around 8,2 V in series. That did not work for me, despite I was able to power on the phone, it was not enough power to make calls. My next plan would be to use two 9V Blocks in parallel. That should work and could even fit in the original battery. Up to now I did not dare to open a battery, you would have to use a Dremel?? What is inside? Would be very happy if we could stay in touch and exchange on the project!!!
@@VintageTech I found out that inside are 6 AA 1.2v Ni-cd cells. I'm planning on putting in 6 Ni-mh cells. I haven't tried to open the battery yet. My charger hasn't arrived yet to test the battery. I have seen one video where the top of the battery was cut open, and another video where the top was separated without damage. This looks like an aftermarket battery though so I don't know if you can do that on original batteries. Once my charger arrives I will let you know how I get on.
