Showing a chirp plugin 'waris.py' which makes adjusting the Waris radios tuning much easier without hex-editing. chirp.danplanet.com/projects/c... wiki.w9cr.net/
This was great Bryan, I felt you demystified the process which was worried me up to this point. I run two in the vehicle and something in the Tahoe trips the Medic HEAR frequency way too much, tones are not used by anyone apart from our hospitals sadly. I hope you at some point move onto the XTS5000 and XTL5000 radio's which are now pouring by the pallet loan onto the used markets as departments move up to Phase II. I just bought a few and they are a whole lot more complex than Waris. Thanks again for a well lit and steadily shot instructional video that didn't make me seasick!
Excellent work Bryan. I did a CDM1550LS+. I moved a 450mhz -520mhz to 440mhz-510mhz. moved all tuning piers 10 mhz exactly how you did, I also did a CMD1250 low split from 403mhz-470mhz to 405mhz- 473mhz moved tuning piers 3 mhz. I also did not have to write a new codeplug . I backed up code plugs in CPS and did mods via chirp with original code plugs and after mods when I read the radios thru CPS they were still there, I also added channels. Radios work fine and sound great. I don't think they need to be realigned as they are clear .THANK YOU SO MUCH. 73's
Update, This mod will bring your CDM down to 440mhz. HOWEVER after I did this I put my radio back on my bird watt meter and anything below 450mhz will have a output power of only 15 watts on high or low power. Above 450mhz will be fine
Thanks Bryan, Using Chirp on Linux, programming AAM25RHD9AA2AN ,AA25RKD9AA2AN 440Mhz and AAM25MHF4DP5AN 220Mhz radios worked fine. I've also modified several of the 220Mhz radios following your directions, changed the filters and am very happy with the performance. They work so well I ended up building a repeater with a pair of them to replace the Tait TB7100 I currently use. Now if you (or someone) can extend what you've done to where I can program the remainder of the radio I'd be ecstatic.
I know the video is a bit old but thank you for the work on this plugin and video. I just performed the mod on a 450-520 CDM1550LS+ and it worked perfectly.
Bryan, Thanks for all the info that put out on the Waris series radios. I have the CPS for reading /writing the radios but will not allow me to write with 25 KHz Channel bandwidth. Do you have the fix for this? Thanks, Jim
I had problems with the new July 2017 Waris.py file on my CDM1550. It looked like it programmed but it didn't take. After reading the radio again it had the old values. After trying the March 2017 file it worked great!
Bryan, thanks for this! I'm new to both Linux and batwing products, but I'm gonna give this a shot, moving a low-band low-split to 10 meters. One question - After the piers are redefined, when does the radio determine the baseline values for the new piers? At boot? Or is a full alignment process required?
thank you for your work on this. Please forgive me as i am new to this radio series, i was mostly successful, i could not figure out how to enable 20 KC channel spacing or get to the 25 kc channel bandwidth on 220 for transmit,(i know i must change the filters for receive) do i still need to hex edit to get this?
Worked superbly! One question still nagging use noobs out here is how to get the radio to TX at 5Khz wide instead of 2.5 khz. The narrowbanding FCC thing still comes up. Any ideas? Tnx- Bob AB5N
awesome work Bryan. I have a question about modifing a 136-174 radio to 220. how do you make the adjustments in the tuning piers. do you just add 50mhz to each pier to make it 225?
Why not just buy the 200 MHz version? If you just want to try it, sure add to it and have fun, but you'd likely need to redo the entire VCO and PA to have it work.
Hi Bryan, thanks for all the information. I have a question for you: This procedure could be used in a CM200 (EM200) series radio? I Have a LAM50RPC9AA1AN unit and want to collect information about modding it for amateur frequencies. My plan is to use it for M17 digital voice. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this, i have a stack of 450 CDM1250's i can repurpose now, worked without a problem, only issue is that i could not save the image of the radio initially in chirp, it gave me an error.
Nice one Bryan, that worked first time. I had no idea CHIRP even had Moto support. Any way to increase the 16 channel banks do you know? Also, is the Tuning-Piers Excel file available?
I ran the software, changed the owner name and codeplug to Factory, increased the total memories from 64 to 128 and programmed the amended file into the radio without a problem. I thought the CDM1250 was limited to banks of 16 channels
No, only the HT1250 is. You can still only scan 16 channels however. I increase the memories to 255 (FF), as they can do it. Keep in mind if you take it out of band you may need to adjust the tuning piers.
Haven't bricked a radio yet with the Waris.py. I have 2 29.7 to 36 mhz radios coming tomorrow. Putting them on 10 meter 29.5 to 29.7 . I have done a number ( over 30 ) CDM1550 220 mhz radios. No problems with any ..
What version of Chirp were you using. The new one from the site does not have Motorola as a listed radio CHIRP daily-20200107 Trying to get my cdm1550ls setup for DMR in Belleair Fl
I'm running into an issue (mentioned by another commenter, albeit in a very nonconstructive way...) where I am making the changes using (legacy) Chirp with both the Jul 2021 and Mar 2017 Waris.py file, writing the radio (CDM1250) using a USB (serial adapter) programming cable, but when I read the radio back in to Chirp and CPS the frequency range has been reset. No errors from either Chirp or CDM1250. Not sure what could be wrong. This is on Windows 10 and the version of Chirp legacy as of Apr 2024
Hi Bryan, Using CHIRP daily-20210212, CDM1250 UHF2, went through the process in your video, uploaded to radio, everything seemed ok until I downloaded from radio, and none of the changes took. 'Any ideas? Thanks, N4PYB
Are you able to program the radio with chirp? If not where does one get the CPS Professional called Motorola with no luck not trying to steal wiling to pay if I have too
I tried to do that for a 1250 ls + to turn on mdc on conventional. But when I try to use chirp with the saris.py and it did not work All I get is a red background and it does not say Motorola in the drop down box
What version of Chirp did you use? I get an "Invalid or unsupported module file" error when I try to load the module. Another user had the same issue and you told them to download per the video. I went through the video twice. There were no instructions, just you loading the module. Thanks KM4PBE
Use the Chirp Legacy version. I am still dealing with an issue where the changes aren't saving (CDM1250 450 to 440), but the legacy version of Chirp will load the module.
Hi Bryan. Thanks for your video. I was thinking if the waris module is working with the GP360? Chrip does just turn up red and the radio freezes when I do a read? Any ideas? Thanks again.
I have some 1550 models and the points go from 403-458 (not sure why) my problem is they are only authorized for 12.5khz and I can’t get it to go to 25 kHz. Want to use these for amateur. 73 W4DXL
Hey Bryan, Just purchased a HT-1250 LS and am trying to program it with the CPS but there is a password input that is keeping me from programming it. How can I get past this? Is there a way to reset the firmware in order to get by this password requirement? Thanks much, Bob
I got it to work on a 16 chan ht750. I tried 255 channels first, but the radio wouldnt boot and gave error beep. I thought it might be bricked but I was able to reflash firmware and get recovered. I got the courage to try again with 128 channels and it worked perfectly! I guess 255 overloaded the memory? It the mem capacity different throughout these waris series?
Ok using it on a ht1250ls+ works like a charm. But tried to use it on a cdm1550 and when I put it on 25khz the squelch wont close. Any feedback on a cure for this??
This Chirp plugin doesn't work for shit. You show how easy it is to change band limits, and yet every time I change my band limits, save the file, upload to the radio, then read the radio back in Chirp or CPS, it reverts back to the original factory band limits.
@@bt25 "...doesn't work for shit" is not "asking for help." I'm sure Bryan will cheerfully refund all the money you're paying him for tech support. Oh, wait...
