Thank You for that Code! You are a Godsend! I recently got an XTS 5000 model III FPP and It was a head-scratcher trying to get it to Scan properly. I'm a security guard myself and NOW it's the best for scanning/listening purposes while on the job. Again, Thank You!- Ritchie S
Shame that modern radios like the XPR 7550e lack this feature in the US market. Oddly you *can* buy FPP entitlement from Motorola for the DP4801 (Euro variant of the 7550e), but not in the US.
If I were to buy 2 of these. How would I connect them to talk to each other? Would they just have to be on the same channel? This is for personal use not business. Would they work? Thanks
+Ben Wilson You could use MURS on the VHF band using 2-watts and it would work. Here is a link for the frequencies: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-Use_Radio_Service
@ 6:00mins in, you claim that you can name the zone HAM or AMATEUR or whatever you want, however the CTS software only allows two characters. So, my question is, do you happen to know of some secret way to get a zone name to be longer than just two characters? Thanks in advance.
+K4DPS Thanks for your reply. I wondered if that's what you meant. The 5000 is a GREAT radio though I wish Motorola was more realistic with what they allow for Zone naming. For those who don't know, to do this programming your radio needs to have Q52 Federal Government FPP as well as Q53 FCC FPP And Radio Cloning.
This family of radios from xts 1500 2500 3000 5000 all have a certain number of spaces available for text ans it is shared between xone and channel names. Under display and menu in the cps it is a setting you can split the number allocated for each but even then the zone I think is like the max of 3 char
@@ferrellbrown1952 WOW, LOL ... I thought I knew this radio and its CPS well and after about three decades I'm just seeing this NOW! Pfff ... I'm laughing at myself. Thanks for pointing this out, Ferrell.
+K4DPS no, it DOES, i'm following along, but there is no button for "new channel" to create a slot to add an additional ch. that's what i'm wondering. how do you add a new one using FPP? I have been just putting duplicate entries in the software, snyc it up and then in the field i use one of those dub channels to "change". .... what i'm trying to say is it seems that you can only edit/change but you can't add new.
I thank you for the help but quick question I did each step but I am still not able as far as hitting the repeater my simplex works of is it away of contact me kd4kbl because I may have to exchange my radio my xts 5000 but before doing this I just want to making sure I am doing this correct thanks
Make sure the PL tone is correct and hasn’t changed. Also make sure you programmed both the repeater input frequency and the repeater output frequency.
I have a question how do you program it into a channel that’s unprogrammed or do you have to overwrite the existing channel is my question. And thank you in advance for the information on how to do front panel programming I appreciate it and I’m also a ham radio operator.
Just program in the transmit and receive frequencies you would like. If 138 MHz is in both the transmit and receive, just override it by programming in the frequency you want. I hope that answers your question.
@@k4dps it does not answer my question. I’ll repeat it for you I want to program a frequency into a Unprogrammed Channel or do I have to program it into a channel that’s already got a frequency in it. Can I over write it.
@@MrBillCNW Program in the frequencies in a channel that already has frequencies in it. Yes, you can override the old frequencies. I was referring to a “unprogrammed channel” when I discussed the 138MHz. In my XTS5000, my “unprogrammed channels” had 138MHz as the default frequencies for transmit and receive. Yours sounds different than mine. If you don’t have any frequencies in some of your channels, then you won’t be able to use them
How's it going K4, I work in private security and recently got gifted a Motorola XTS2500. Our radios at work are UHF's. We use motorola CP200's daily. My question is, can there be any possible way to program the work frequencies on to my radio to make it work. Keep in mind i do have the same freq. Range as work radios. Just thought i'd ask. Thanks! -Eric
ericrios43 Yes you should be able to have that radio programmed to your work frequency. I would get a letter from your company authorizing you to have the frequency programmed and then take it to a local Motorola shop and have them do it for you.
My radio is programmed but missing some channels that need to be added. I don’t have the FPP button on my screen when I toggle… did my department disable the button?
does the 2500 and 5000 series have to be the "series 3" with full number keyboard, or can you get a "series 2" without the full keyboard, and just use the rocker to toggle up and down for numbers? for examples, if i want to add frequency 440 could i just move "up" 4 times, then over to the right, then up 4 times and repeat again until you have all the numbers in.
I'm looking to but this radio for listening purposes only, I work security and want to listen to local PD on p25 digital. Would I be able to program this xts5000 from the front panel? I do not have the software and do not wish to transmit. (I like my freedom not in jail)
No, You cannot transmit on a Motorola Radio without having the right to. You cant just pick a frequency out of the air and start talking. If you have a channel that dosent come off a tower maybe, but if you are transmitting off of a tower freq you can get in trouble if you don't have the right to
Hello I own an XTS5000 I have a programming cable RKN4105A And ASTRO25 CPS R20.01.00 + TUNER The computer cannot see the USB cable I have tried on all systems WIN10-WIN7-WINXP Do I have to buy the original version of the program ?? Please Help Any ideas help? Thank With my best regards
Adjust your baud rate in the connection settings menu. It has been many years since I have used the CPS, but I would start with trying different baud rates to see if that is the issue. Best of luck.
@@k4dps Hello thank you for caring The computer does not feel any usb or com connection until I set the pound speed The cable is in excellent condition and it is new when connected to the radio, it feels connected and gives the known call bell. I think I need a cps copy if you have it available. I thank you
what i need to know on my xps2500 is how to make the FPP accept ham freq and not just comm req. There are 2 seperate settings one for normal freq range to allow programming ham freq. That alone willnot allow programming of ham freq visa the FPP. You have to use Flashzap to change the band edges of FPP and that is where I am dropping the ball. I do not have a copy of that software and I cannot read the radio to mae the change. If anybody is familiar with that please rech out to me
Any local Motorola shop can program the radio, but you have to hold a valid FCC license. The XTS3000 comes in VHF/UHF/800 MHz. It depends on the model you select.
So let's say you want to listen to more than one frequency. Like per-say in my county, every frequency is analog. How would I add the EMS, City PD, Sheriff, and Fire frequencies and be able to scan them all at the same time? It's a big change from running a Baofeng UV-5R to a Motorola XTS5000 Model 3.
Isaac, you will have to take them to a authorized Motorola dealer and pay for a code plug upgrade. Only certain radios will accept the FPP code plug, but they will be able to tell you if yours are upgradable or not.
I have an XTS 5000 that a friend of mine let me have after returning from Iraq, and I've been wanting to see if I can reprogram the frequencies already onboard to local ones (weather, marine channels, air traffic, maybe local EMS) I live on the coast and want to have this available incase of natural disaster emergencies.
Do you have some sort of a code I can use? Also, for a price I will need help to program the unit, I have a cable that goes from the radio to my P.C. please I could use the help. Thank you...
Om Sir, the keypad is unblocked, switch under the channel Selector switch, I now have the key pad unlocked any further help would be appreciated thank you
