Nice to have another video from you! Your catalog has proven a valuable resource to me over the years. Thank you for the detail and the time you put into them!
Awesome Video, Everything looked good. Long time fan and follower. I see your issue now. I appreciate the time for the info and video. I need to go through your back catalog of videos and catch up. Awesome to see the Dog is still out there and kicking ass.
Another thing about these housings; if you buy them with the flex already in, check it over very, very closely. I found metal fragments and a Motorola chip in one of those. They were stuck to the speaker magnet. If your old flex is good and it's OEM, check out my video on removal of the flex. SAVE YOUR VOLUME knobs, as the ones I received, did not have the volume position stripe on top. Try to reuse the concentric ring switch as well.
Great to see another video from you, welcome back! I re cased a 5000 that I was converting from model 1 to 3. A few days after, I dropped it on the bottom of the radio and it did cause a crack, but wasn’t detrimental to the radio function ,or it’s protection against the elements. I’ve definitely noticed everything you outlined in the video, I think the colors are the biggest novelty with these. Tan, Green, Red, Blue, translucent, all the colors of the rainbow that Motorola never offered. The knock off re case kits for the XTS3000 hold just about the same quality.
@@snarlingrabiddog5150 It was a Chinese 5000 housing, the Tan/Brown colored option. It fell off of a island countertop onto a tile floor. It cracked the thin plastic on the bottom of the radio where the chassis metal teeth snap in.
@@MacintoshWizard Well, I've come across quite a few used OEM housings that have cracks in that area. Tile is very unforgiving. I'm not sure that both wouldn't do that.
The APX NEXT is a killer radio too; looks like a slice of technological Heaven but I'm afraid that it will kill the radio industry as we know it (another feller Nicholas I think mentioned that to me). Lots of fees and you'll have to have the thing repaired at The Genius Bar in Best Buy or Motorola only. Still, I'd love to feature one! I don't think they're out yet, but the video is amazing. I've missed hearing from you all.
Be careful with the flex assembly they appear to be the same as the OEM but quality is not there. I had to use my OEM for my 3000. I also agree with your finding on the housing they work. I purchased mine through Ebay
If you mean XTS2500 in red china cases, I don't buy those because they're very poor replacements both in build quality and materials and were formed and pressed using worn out forms.
@@Jacob-mm8xq They're legal if you have an FCC license, but the cost of one is criminal, lol. Cheap APX tagged, quality radios cost more than some cars. It's all in what you want/need.
Hi there, I just buy enough of the housings to do my radios, but here is a link to a nice one at a cheap price: www.ebay.com/itm/224485556064?hash=item344461bf60:g:5-sAAOSwWGBgufx0
Hi are there an Motorola Handheld radio that I can program on my own pc? I am looking for a radio for less than 500. Will you please point me in the right direction. Thank you
Long time fan dan. Yeah these housings ain't perfect. My only gripe is mine didnt have a solidly installed connector and mine got ripped off in my convertacom. Other than that I don't mind them too much. Wouldn't use it on duty.
I think they will be what most sellers have to rely on, as supply is dwindling fast, or so it seems. I think they get the job done, but they're just not the same, sadly. Good to hear from ya Max!
Hey Dan ... long time no speak!! Just looking at these Chinese housings I see the difference and I can certainly hear the difference in the PTT. Even if the knock-off was given to me I wouldn't use it - OEM or noting. There IS a difference! Love your videos ... keep 'em comin' ... and it would be great to catch up sometime.
It's been a while! Get a hold of me anytime! I agree with you 100%. There IS an issue and that is, there is now a small number or new OEM housings around and they are very difficult to get a hold of. At some point, I can see these as our only alternative for the XTS 5k's and 25k's. These are usable, but for people expecting to see OEM perfection, they won't see it in a China housing. I think they are producing them from worn molds. The guy who sells them on ebay has about 6 different accounts. He does not directly produce them, he buys them from a factory nearby. I thought he owned the factory, but nope.
Thank ya! I'm really glad people like them :) Yep, I sell them. You can find me on ebay: www.ebay.com/str/talkwavecommunicationsllc?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 I don't carry the APX series but have lots of XTS radios, gear, parts, etc... not shown.
