Shawn Moses Wrong. GR/GV was around 5.2 sec because of the third gear shift. The WRX was the one that could do 4.7 because it only had to shift to second gear to get to 60 (5spd)
***** I owned a 2012 STI and now i have a 2014 Camaro SS and its not that big of a difference. In normal everyday life the AWD vs RWD wont make a difference. Besides the mustang has some stability controls like my camaro does and i could go around a turn floor it and as soon as my tires spin the car catches it and straitens itself back out. A lot of the test that car testers do are for track purposes and you will never need; the figure 8, g forces, 60-0, all of these test don't really effect you in a daily situations. The mustang itself will most like be cheaper, if you get a loaded one, however the insurance companies will see V8 and charge a little more, if you are over 25 it is a minuscule amount. I wouldnt be scared of the power or the rear wheel dirve, just go with whatever car better fits your needs. When i switched to my camaro i made a list of needs and then I put those needs into the column of the car that better fit them, after i was done the camaro beat the STI by about 4 points, for me personally. Just go with whatever car is best for you.
+theminkowskitensor there r faster STi's. Idk if u have heard about the red drago STi that makes 350hp and another one that makes 400hp. They r limited. Also Japan and Europe get some others special edition from the STi that we don't get in America like the 22b, WR1, S203 and some others that have more than 305hp but America doesn't get them
i Bee Amazin the insurance for a WRX STi is extremely high too. It’s the most ticketed car in the US. They have a high chance of theft too, they’re the most expensive cars to insure in their class.
#1 Finally someone who can drive an STI #2 I hate the window frames, go back to framless #3 07 wing is the best, can buy wing stiffies #4 Quad exhaust is the best on these cars #5 Those seats are awesome #6 Price has been the same since 2004 ( thank you)
John Davis is a very good presenter. and i love this old school stuff, i mean, although we are in the 2020's, this program has an old school rewind, i love it! and subaru rocks!
I don't know how people can keep saying nothing has changed. Subaru has stiffened up the car to the point where understeer is minimized. And the factory tune is also better. According to some professionals the factory tune on the 2015 is the equivalent of an older STi running a Cobb OTS map. Ownersare saying lag is reduced and throttle response is a lot better. As for not having a new engine? If it's not broke don't fix it.
I picked up my new subaru sti on Saturday, I have drove a lot of different car's over the years, but boy this is the best, looks good sounds good and great value for the money. Well done subaru.
I sit in these everyday installing upgraded mirrors and other installations. They come into our port. Well made cars and I have never seen a company more focused on quality.
The EJ 257 needs a fully closed deck and forged internals and it would be perfect. I don't want the fa motor just make the EJ better and add 50-75 more hp
Ive always been into entry level luxury cars from 3 series to Q7.... One saturday im bored and decided to go drive test an Sti... Now i am awaiting for it to be delivered :) 2016 wrb sti limited fte
***** No Mitsubishi Motors is currently struggling to remain relevant to the automotive marketplace. I'm surprised Mitsubishi Motors North America still exists, I thought they would have gone bankrupt by now.
I had a 2004 sti. That car and this one have very similar times. I haven't driven the newer one, maybe it feels more refined?? I installed an electronic boost controller for $279 and a downpipe that I already had from my 2004 forester xt. I ran a 12.8 at 108. Handled awesome and really fun. I miss that car. :(
KILLER TIP !!! All you Subaru Drivers; Tried and true way to "violently launch" your subies for head slamming effect, WITHOUT stressing out your drive-train.. do what I do. I had an imprezza and forester XT. XT does 5.3sec 0-60 and 13.8 quarter Car@driver. But the real story is that it does 0-30 in 1.3sec. Back in 2005 NO Ferrari or Liguini could even dream of matching this. This is a result of a WEIRD combination of super LEAN on-boost fuel-map setting from factory + 3200lb (150lb less than STI) + Super short 1st gear + Super short 4.11 diff + Cheap truck tires = Beat EVERY STI, Mustang SVT..ect.. , Corvett, and Porsche in 1/8th mile drag (I have been beat by a chevy blazer..the only defeat.. to date- had close call with a dodge truck w/ viper engine). Pull up at the light, so that your front tires land on something slippery, like painted road marking, ice, sand, or snow. Than launch at 4k. This will give you a lurch launch, W/O breaking anything. If you live in the snow states, pull right at the light, so that your passenger side tires are sitting on snow buildup. Launch at 5k and you will fall behind, but as soon as you hook up... God help THEM who you see in rear view mirror!!!
Drivers should not even be thinking about debating between getting a focus, fiesta, civic, or whatever and a Subaru! If Subaru would just bring back it’s aggressive, wide-bodied, flared wheel well rally ready car!
motorweek reviews of cars are always honest and true... wasnt surprise at all how great they praise the sti .. yeah its the same engine same since 08 blah blah.. I own a 14 sti nothing against 15 sti, and everyday I put it on s # mode with the nameless exaust holy cow the smile on my face.. I get why Subaru didn't wana change the engine.. why change something that's awesome? if it aint broke don't fix it ... did I mention I never worry about any kind of shit weather that's outhere anymore? and its a street legal race car? whatttttttt!! blows my mind!! love it!!
This is a quick model, these were easy to launch. Here in the UK, we had the WRX STI available from the jump, early generations were also very quick until they fell flat up top. Here in the UK they're very popular, and the Subie and Mitsu guys are always at it (in a friendly way). To be honest, all the STIs and Evos (aside from the FQ series) fall flat after 200kph, which is a major turn off for a top end Honda guy like me. Very, very quick until 200kph then there's no power. If I was going AWD, I'd get a Mitsubishi GTO TT - just as quick through the 1/4m mark, but has great top end on the motorways. Have plenty of mates with UK-spec GTO TTs, US-spec 3000GT VR-4s and J-spec GTO TT /MRs. In FACTORY TRIM (stock), the US-spec VR-4 models do the 1/4m in 13.1s / 13.2s @ 103 - 104mph, the UK spec GTO TT do it in 13.3s to 13.5s @ 104 to 105mph, and the J-spec GTO MR is insanity, mate's ran a 12.6@107mph. I had a 1993 NSX Type R while my mate had that 1996 GTO MR, we lined up, he had half a car on me at 270kph - the launch he had was just insane, stronger than any STI or Evo FQ I'd ever seen.
Get it in your parents name and pay them for insurance. One of the options will ask if you are the primary or secondary driver, you can select secondary driver they absolutely do not have any way to prove you aren't.
These times are the same as all of the other STIs too?? So, this one just handles better? Is that the only main difference? If I could afford a new car I'd just buy a used 2011 model and save a lot of money, maybe even the 2008 hatchback which is just as fast or faster and about $15k cheaper.
Ok y u don't buy a red dragon STi if u want more hp. They r limited so hurry up. There's two types. One has 350hp and the other one for more hard core guys with 400 with factory warranty. Go to the subarus dealers that have them. They r probably gone by now if they r limited.
SYNCPHAN1OM I would do that. But 7500? That's the BRZ spec FA20. The one in the WRX tops off at 6700, but I really would be willing to raise the limiter to about 7.5-8k. Would take a lot of work tho
It doesn’t check all the right boxes because the purist Subaru STI lover doesn’t like them because they just look like your run of the mill four-door coupe size with a spoiler. The side profile was completely forgotten in the design, there’s no wheel well flares, and the body is designed almost as poorly as a Ford focus! If they would fix the body/outer shell for once then it would finally become a pure STI again!
there is a lot more progress in the 2015 model, the arfdag, not every thing ia about power, it lighter, stiffer, handle better, better interier, more space in side, etc.., and u say no progress. 1 more thing dude, better response frm the 2.5, 305 hp engine, and that why it selling like crazy.
SUCH A SHAME !!! Cars these days, Subarus included... With same 300hp; if this suby weighed 700 pounds less, like the original Imprezza (GC8), it could do 0-60 in 3.9 Sec with less stress to the clutch and rest of the drive-train. A real shame!! That's why I have a 2680 pound GC8 imprezza in storage, waiting to be projected.
Reasons why newer cars weigh more are all the new safety's test they have to excel at. Such as small front offset collision. Your older car may weigh less but it will most undoubtedly be less safe. Those people who are saying car makers are sleeping, have to understand newer cars typically weigh more have more power are more fuel efficient and safer.
I am willing to bet, that I am more particular about safety than yourself. Your claim about the newer cars are true, only if you are comparing say a 1988 civic to a 2005 Subaru (any model). If you youtube -- 2002 Subaru Impreza moderate overlap IIHS crash test --- and --- 2014 Subaru Impreza small overlap IIHS crash test --- you will see that the results are very much identical. I noticed slightly larger crease on the older impreza than the 2014, but then noticed the same crease on the other 2014 models. Subaru of course were at lease 5yr ahead of everyone else in safety, but the WEIGHT really had nothing to do with it. As the result shows, the 500lb heavier car built more than 10 YEARS LATER has the same result.. "GOOD", the best possible IIHS rating for 2002 and 2014. more than a decade apart, YET 500LB HEAVIER!!.. Do you know what the weight diff is REALLY about? During early 90s, Hondas gained noticeable lbs along with some shiny plastics inside and out. They started using U.S. suppplier parts. I remember how big a cruise control unit in a civic was compared to Sentra. Civic unit was like a small/med salad bowl, where as Sentra unit was like a baseball. That's the diff. Airbags, cats, and even stiffer chassis do not add that much lbs. It's the cheap parts that get mounted to it, that does. I am more particular about safety than most cuz I know the value of a lighter chassis, that lets me avoid the accident in the first place! The difference between going home to a usual warm dinner, and waiting in cold for a tow truck, followed by days of paper work and driving a rental car.
It looks good on paper and seems to preform well, but I still can't get over how ugly it is. Part of the attraction to these cars was the aggressive look, and it just looks like a slightly perturbed Camry. I don't think we have much hope for improvement in the future now that the STI's only direct competition (Evo) is gone . . . maybe Nissan will reintroduce the Skyline . . . I can only dream.
so lets throw away the fact it out handles pretty much anything on road, the fuel consumption has improved, practically has no turbo lag anymore, just because it "only" does a 13 second 1/4.. name one thing for this price that does better or similar.
evo is 10k more 1M is close to 40k more only america has the Mustang... lucky bastards A used STI with upgrades way to make yourself look stupid. genesis isn't available worldwide and it couldn't keep up what so ever. Mazdaspeed 3 unles serious mods are done no way.
Kevin Albin agree too kevin, power is not every thing, lightness, stiffness, handling and better response frm the sti. Power is the easiness thing to make progress in a car and in today world, that not much progress any more.
Fail subie. I mean 8-10k more than wrx and everything ive seen wrx is a better daily driver. Im thinking if you spent that money on the wrx it would out perform the sti. Maybe not idk lol. Id take either one haha love subies for life
I just recently traded a evo 9 stage 2 tune that was making 315 whp, the car run a 12.3 sec 1/4 mile and 4.3 sec 0-60, with perfect launch. Anyway long story short the stock 15 sti was not even comparable to the tuned evo also you have to shift to 3 rd to get to 60 in the sti
I feel like no one really reviews vehicles anymore that all say the same shit in this case it’s the same car blah blah if they did research they would be listing off multiple improvements engine suspension just to name a few anyways I would buy one because it’s a fucking rally car bishhhhhhhh!
Faux Carbon Fiber trim?! Wtf?! For the amount that a new STI costs and insurance costs (which is normally around the same or sometimes more than the amount of your car payment every month!) they could’ve easily afforded to put real carbon fiber on those little trim pieces and included it in the price of the car for no extra cost! No STI is worth buying if it’s been made past the Hawkeye! The motors are worth buying but not the cars/body. You want the bugeye, blobeye, or Hawkeye!
Coming from someone that posts "how to kiss a woman" you have no facts. You should show your car so we can all be envious. Or send us pictures of your Dad's ride! These comments to me say 'TOOL'
Fuel economy is like that because of the AWD drivetrain. If you really want better fuel economy, buy something else. That's one of the things that people should be assessing before they're even looking for a car. If you can't afford premium, get a car that runs on the lesser grades. V8s get better mileage because they tend to have a shit-ton more torque...that's going to make it easier for them to get good mileage (that and their gear ratios, which are going to take advantage of the abundance of torque). I had a Dodge Ram 5.7L before I got my STI, so my perspective is quite different than yours. $70-80 for a tank of gas, which only gets you 300 miles highway and half that in the city. I guess that's why the STI's fuel economy doesn't bother me so much.
Overpriced? Are you shipwrecked? Name another car on this price that can go 0-60 in 4.7 seconds? STI has been one of the best values for performance for decades, and in a recent review it outperformed the BMW M235i and the Mercedes CLA45 AMG around the track which costs thousands more. 44k and 48k the STI costs 35k. Plus no other car gives you so much for the money, All wheel drive standard, 4 doors standard, rally capability, and so much more.
juan tafoya add all the taxes etc.. and u end up paying 40k , no worth it buying a brand new car , think about what u can buy used for 40k !!! , for that price you can buy more performance and quality
