MotoTRBO DMR vs M/A-Com AEGIS Digital Voice 

Actually when I listen again with earphones I can hear the difference between it and FM, but it actually does sound pretty good to me.

+radiosification There are analog channels in that radio but the channel I used was AEGIS strapped with DES. If you try to receive it on an analog scanner, it sounds very similar to the sound ProVoice makes.

Does using DES change the sound of the received audio once it has been decoded?

+radiosification It shouldn't, but I can't tell you because when I bought those radios they came with one AEGIS channel and it's strapped. DES can't be turned off. I have no cps or keyloader for these. I don't even know the actual DES key in them.

Nas64 RadioSec Swl No, AEGIS used (AME) adaptive multiband encoding. The sampled digital voice bits were approximated to the appropriate 8 frequency bands with most energy to the lower voice frequencies. I guess consider it a pre-AMBE . AEGIS is FDMA. P25 phase 1 uses the IMBE vocoder. P25 phase 2 uses the AMBE2 vocoder.
