Kinda surprised the battanian wildling is on the list, though I guess if you put all footmen in a group that don't have bows then I get it. To me a skirmisher is a different unit.
It was down to the oathsworn and the wildlings and in the battle tests i did, the Wildlings fared better than the oathsworn, and other infantry in the game.
Aserai troops across the board are by far the worst in the game. Every single class is outmatched despite calls to improve them. TaleWorld probably hates Arabs.
I like both the Oathsworn and the Wildlings, Oathsworn are solid, have better helmets, spear and a solid axe, as well as throwing axes, but Wildings have great javelins but their sword definitely makes them suffer against heavy infantry. The problem is that the way Bannerlord pre-battle works, makes trying to separate the two into Infantry and Skirmishers *impossible.* They really need to put in more infantry types, have it be Infantry, Skirmishers, Shock and Polearm.
@@Dare_To_Game I wish that they would redo the Legionary equipment loadout. I want their original helmet from the 2020 release, the decorated imperial gauntlets and greaves, and the skirted lamellar armor. I also want them to switch out their current sword for a spatha and their pila for an actual spear. I also want them to have only one equipment loadout, as I hate a tier 5 unit doesn't have standardized equipment. Either that, I or they should allow us to customize our own troops.
@@snugglecity3500for the legions? No not at all. One of the big things about the Roman military was it had standards for how a soldier was equipped. Soldiers were required to have a standard sword. Tactics were designed around that sword. The individual soldiers paid for their own stuff, but the craftsmen that followed Legions around knew the requirements. The auxiliaries were a different story.
Thank you so much for this. I am currently in an empire playthrough, and the sturgian infantry have been pissing me off. Now i know how to counter their stupid shields.
The Darkhan don't have throwing. They pick them up from the battlefield and use them which is still so powerful. If you go through their sets you can see it.
Never played a mount and blade game before now. Went with the sturgian infantry for those massive shields, they are beasts, I’ve had armies with much larger numbers try to slam into my shield wall just to get massacred because they can’t break it, even seen this happen to Ai Calvary that thinks they can just slam into it for free and often they pay with their lives.
I converted to sturgian inf main after slamming my 120 troop elite army with many cataphracts into a 60 man sturgian shield wall. I took a javelin to the head and watched my army crash like a wave and break babe thrown against that wall of speae axes and shields
According to the tests in custom battles, shield wall makes the units perform much worse then standart line formation. Just try several same battles with shield wall and without it, you'll see the difference. Seems like shield wall is broken. Shield wall is less usefull even against missile units because loose formation is more effective. Also I tried to use shield wall against cavalry. Every 5 tier cavalry easily beats any 5 tier infantry in a shield wall. Also I tested Sturgian units in custom battles. Sturgian heavy spearmen is one of the worst 5 tier infantry in the game: it peforms worser in infantry melee 100VS100 against any 5 tier heavy inf. Only Battanian Oathsworn is worser. Also it has very bad spear and in result have the same bad performance against cavalry aswell in comparison to other tier 5 anti cavalry units. Heavy axemen is much better in melee against infantry but has no anti cav capabilities at all. In result to hold the line the player needs both units, for example 50/50. But such cocktail makes Sturgian infantry very mediocre overall. All other 4 infantry types shown in the video is much better as a main infantry for my taste.
This guy gets simple ass things so wrong. The Darkhans do NOT have throwing weapons, and they do NOT have big shields. And the wildlings DO have a huge disasvantage when it comes to their armor. THEIR HELMET ONLY GIVES 25 HWAD PROTECTION!!!
I think a lot of ppl are trashtalking the aserai, because of their lower tier units. Aserai low tier is indeed trash... I remember losing early game to 10 looters with 17 aserai recruites. LMAO. Even their tier 1 and 2 are really bad. However their last tier of units are kinda crazy in all areas to be honest... So overall IMHO aserai is a late-game faction. If you can suffer to the early game, which is not that difficult tbh, besides you can just use other troops early game... Once you get your gold running and you can sustain full last tier unit of the aserai, you have pretty much everything you want... Cavalry check, archers- check, infantry - check, anti-cav - check....
Aseri Vetran defeats all other infantries one on one. Due to their throwing, by the time the other line arrives at yours alot of their shields are destroyed and damage taken. I love your videos but they’re way too low. They’re the best overall. Once they arrive at your lines you then send in your shock troops.
Majority of my infantry are empire Manavliatons. Maybe a little bit squishy compared to legions since they dont have shields but they absolutely decimate anything in their path and I rarely lose any troops.
If you are watching this after a year, now this list probably would change a lot, the Sturgian's Spearmen and the Axeman have been significantly buffed, now they are by far the best infantry on the game, with the axeman now even having full plate armor
Helmet openings definitely do not matter in the vanilla game, counterintuitive though it may be. Armour is armour. I've done playthroughs where for aesthetics I changed the XML file for different head armours like the Laurel Crown and made it 50 or so Armour, and me and my companions still had tanky heads despite us just wearing a thin golden circlet. You can see or test this in action without editing files by using cheat mode and grabbing one of the default low/medium/best armour items, which give Head, Arm, Torso, and Leg armour while only being in the torso slot.
As a battanian main I wonder why wildling, who are skirmish infantry, but not oathsworn? I mean they have spears and could stand against cavalry that IS a problem for battanians. In the same time battanians do not suffer in range battle as their elite units is the best archer in the game so having nice throwing skill and something to throw is not so valuable in comparison with ability to stand cavalry. Is something seriously changed in the latest patch maybe?
@dare to game. Run the sturgian axes v asssria infantry 500 v 500 I bet you the asseri wins 6/10. But even if they win half they’re more versatile because they can throw. You can use them to wreck and damage any other line and then send in your shock troops.
Do you recommend to mix in shock infantry and if so in separate units on flanks maybe? How bad are crossbowmen as infantry, can they hold on a bit and do some damage or are they absolute trash at it?
@@Johnny2Badd Yeah, I love fians but they feel like cheating if I collect too many of them. They have that 6th tier that has so much higher skills. Probably a dismounted Khan's Guard will beat non noble archers too. I was thinking when in Vlandia to just put every recruit into crossbows and just get melee troops elsewhere. A mix of wildlings and legionaires or sturgian troops perhaps. I thought the tier 2 and 3 had shields? If so you could use lower tiers as infantry so you lose fewer valuable troops and have a larger pool to upgrade from...
You sound like the main characters best friend in a 90s sitcom who is there for comic relief but has a tragic backstory involving a dead wife and a daughter who is studying in Europe
