Heading to one of my favourite mountains in the Australian Alps. Mt Buffalo in Mount Buffalo National Park.
This is a return day hike starting from Reservoir picnic area. You'll pass Og Gog Magog and Eagle Point along the way before reaching Mollisons Galleries.
It is approx 6 hour hike. Less if you consider yourself a good hiker. Or less if you don't do what I did and spend half the day filming. This an epic national park to be explored!

You should have gone to Rocky Creek campsite from Mollison's Galleries and returned via Rocky Creek track.That way you do an 18 km loop with different scenery on the way back . There are side trips to Mac's Lookout and Mt. Dunn.

Yeah I had previously done a weekend trip where I hiked to the campsites along that loop. Although would of been a good idea since that was a good while ago!

Tis good to have a look at what's in Victoria. Just came across your feed in the last few days. We are looking forward to seeking new adventures when allowed to leave the city. Thanks again.

Another good video! Half your luck to get out before ISO lockdown!! Hanging to get out once the restrictions lift!! Was it very cold on the hike? I thought the Alps would be pretty chilly?

You are the consummate whipbird whisperer 🎶 Great vid Hayley... loved the sound track and your camera work is getting very snazzy! Are you using a gimbal? 🤍🤍
@settohike
@settohike 3 года назад
hahah I didn't see a single person all day so I suppose making friends with the birds isn't too bad of an idea! and thank you that is very kind! I am currently using the GoPro 7 which does a pretty decent job at stabilising! and a joby gorillapod :)
@vividus101
@vividus101 3 года назад
Great filming and dialogue! What camera/tripod were you using for this? The shots looked steady enough to be on a gimble? I'd love to see a gear vid describing it all 😃
@settohike
@settohike 3 года назад
Thanks Dane! This is filmed with my trusty GoPro 7 and joby gorillapod. I don't think gopro were really lying when they claimed they have 'gimbal-like stabilisation' haha. I actually may be updating my camera by the end of this year, then a gear vid would be on the cards for sure!

There are Gog Magog hills in England which I'm guessing is where the name comes from. They are named after the story of a mythological giant. Btw I've come here from Mr Wild Wales shoutout 👍
@settohike
@settohike 3 года назад
Wow that would makes sense as there are quite a view giant rocks around that area. I’m surprised they didn’t have a plaque for such an odd name. Thanks for stopping by I appreciate it! 😊😊

@@settohike It was weird to see the name and recognised it straight away, I wonder how many Australians think it's a native name.
@deloceanophoto
@deloceanophoto 2 года назад
It’s also the name of 2 of the 12 Apostles rock stacks at Port Campbell (Gog and Magog, anyway). And all named after the mythological creatures/giants/demons, Og, Gog and Magog.

Heyyyyy! Nice video and nice editting! So I got one question. If I have two days for Mount buffalo, which would be the best hikes that you recommend? Thanks
@settohike
@settohike 3 года назад
Thank you! :) Definitely visit the water falls! Ladies Bath and Eurobin Falls are just off the road so very easy to get to. Then further up the the mountain is another little carpark to reach Rollasons Falls which is roughly 2km downhill hike. Rollasons Falls are my favourite! So you could spend a day just on the waterfalls. The Horn is always worth seeing because it is the highest point. I have done a 3 day hike sort of west of the park years ago but I do not remember very much haha so other then this hike I havn't done any others. I plan to visit Buffalo again in the near future!

Have you done Lake Catani to Mt Macleod camping area or to Rocky Creek? Any tips on conditions, how long we should expect it to take one way to the Mt Macleod camp-site?
@settohike
@settohike 3 года назад
I have actually done a hike staying at Mt Macleod many many many many years ago but I remember hardly anything (legitimately my brain has wiped it from my memory haha) We would have gone in February and I remember it being nice and sunny because we saw 3 snakes in one day. I also remember Mt MacLeod being quite nice to pitch a tent. It also wouldn't have taken all day because I wouldn't have been up to a whole day of hiking with a pack back then. Im sorry I can't tell you more! Looks like im going to have to go back!!

@@settohike thanks for replying. I went this weekend so now can answer own question - it only took about 3 hours with food stop using the shortcut trail to the camp ground. I think its only 8km. Didn't get to Rocky Creek. Sunrise from Mt Macleod - gorgeous! Beautiful spot.
@MisterTMH
@MisterTMH 2 года назад
@@kateweatherley4948 Rocky Creek is also a good spot to camp for a night with good water from the Creek.When I went to camp at Mt. McLeod I had it all to myself :-). Do any of you Mt. Buffalo people also XC ski tour? Snow camping at Lake Cattani and XC skiing up there after a big dump of snow is very special. Skiing up and down the Horn is fun and the loop at the Valley of the Giants etc. are all cheap and cheerful outdoor adventures.

Excellent video & editing!! Strange name for trail. Does this name have a meaning? In Jewish tradition this name indicates a world war in the end times. And as always, love your voice. thanks for sharing.

Thank you! 🙂 Oh wow that is very interesting, I am unsure of why they named it this but it definitely seams stranger than normal!
