Mount Lemmon Back Road (Full Drive) | Control Road | Tucson Arizona
There are two ways to get to the top of the Catalinas, Mount Lemmon Highway and The Control Road. In this video we show the full drive of the Control Road on the north side of the Catalina Mountains. This alternative route to Mt Lemmon is a popular 4 wheel drive trip up to the cooler temperatures of mountains as a summer escape from the heat.

My family and I lived on the 3C Ranch, headquarters and housing located 2-3 miles south of Peppersauce Canyon. There were 2 other ranches - VY and U-Circle located to the east that were part of the 3C. All were cattle ranches. My father was employed as a full-time Wrangler, and he, along with 2 other Cowboys, were tasked with overseeing the care of over several hundred head of cattle. The area encompassing the ranches was enormous, ranging from west of the control road, just below the top of Mt. Lemmon to Wrights Peak and East to what is now San Manuel. My awesome father gave me the greatest experience of having me work alongside him as a fulltime cowboy during summer vacation when I was 10 - 12 years old. To this day, and I'm not a spring chicken, I consider it to have been one of the greatest learning experiences of my life. The 2 things that stands out for me is appreciation for the great outdoors and the comradery among the cowboy culture. Sadly, that way of life has disappeared from southwestern Arizona.

Great video. I made the trip on a 2006 Crown Victoria. Down the mountain bottomed out twice. Going up only once right around 48:50 to 48:55. Thanks to a full box frame on the car.

I’ve been through there so many times! I never get enough or tired of driving there! Rt77 to Oracle through the zipline, to peppersauce camping area. The dirt road leads you to Mt. Lemmon’s control road all the way to the top!👌😎👍

Awesome. Did you pass any cyclists on the way up? After I get a place in Tuscon, that road is probably the number one cycling objective on my bucket list to get done before I’m too old. I got some training to do.

We saw people on motorcycles but no bicycles. This would be an ultimate mountain bike route!

You don’t see too many bikes going the back way. A lot going the main route. To dangerous with big ford raptor trucks running up this hill and running everything off the road. I drive a side by side up the back way and the truck people think they own the road and will run you off the road

@@carolynlambert3161 thanks for the info. That was something I feared. Off road Motorized vehicles of all types are a menace, imo. They are both dangerous and cause environmental damage. Here in the northeast, the so-called ‘adventure’ types have done some much damage to the network of old, no longer maintained roads that they are often impassable due to erosion and 3’ deep ruts. And they’re largely a bunch of entitled assholes that don’t give a f**k about anyone but themselves. And don’t get me started about all the RU-vid wannabes.
@carolynlambert3161
@carolynlambert3161 6 месяцев назад
@@richardwhitehead4684 wow really? my off road motorized vehicle didn't cause those ruts they are cause by erosions and no maintaining of the roads. The backway up the Mountain is for 4x4 and off road vehicles yes you can do it in a regular car. Here in Arizona, we have many off road trails for 4x4 and off road vehicles that are being invaded by cyclists. So don't even get me started on the entitled cyclists that think they own the roads! STAY OF OUR TRAILS

I haven’t seen the entire video, but it doesn’t look too bad. My friend used to go up and down the road with his dad’s Subaru. I may even attempt it with my minivan, just kidding. :)

lol 😂 I’ve seen so many Subaru parts left in that trail! Mostly plastic shrouds from the bottom of them, a few months back someone rolled over on one of them outback! But for most parts it’s doable! Just gotta be aware that there’s some bad spots!

Kimberly, it’s approximately 25 miles up to the top once you hit the dirt? One day would like to tackle it. We lived in the Sahuarita area for about 7 years before work brought us out to DC back in 2013. Now I spend my days dreaming of getting back to Tucson. Thanks for posting this and your other videos. Living vicariously through you.
