Your statement is odd. Yes, we have a chance through science of predicting an eruption, and we certainly have a good understanding of science to retrospectively determine the signs that led up to an eruption. However, it is hubris to think that we know everything about volcanic activity, and even if we do that under the concept of chaos theory that we have the ability to collect all relevant data pertinent to making a prediction of 100% certainty. Even with Grindavick which is a slow progressing system there have been surprises and unknowns. I don’t maintain your level of confidence; perhaps because I have lived a long life I recognize that our understanding of nature is a fragment of what it is capable of revealing.

Not all volcanoes are the same beast. The volcanoes in Iceland are nothing like MStH.
