She's a professional mountain bike racer for a factory racing corporation. So, she's a employee for a factory racing corporation. That's not a personal, but a corporative video. So, she's reading a script. With the company speech.

I feel telling newbies to get a full suspension is there way of getting people to buy more expensive bikes. Right now I'm on a lower end Trek hardtail and found that it has caused me to upgrade my skills to make up for the bike. I am currently about to buy a new Remedy or Fuel Ex but I think the hardtail is key in forcing you to learn key skills that will make you that much better on a full suspension. Also, I've taken this hardtail down downhill ski trails before, while I was much faster and safer on the rental dh bike anything is possible on a hardtail
@ccb7122
@ccb7122 7 лет назад
Preston Harris I agree. A hardtail can go anywhere a fully can go.
@tc4767
@tc4767 7 лет назад
I've herd this argument before and logically it doesn't make sense to me. Why would I buy a hardtail get comfortable on it and then go drop another couple grand on a full suspension. I get you say it teaches you better technique, but if you're plan is to eventually go for a full suspension, you may as well learn on the bike you want to end up with and your technique will be fine. It's not like you can't learn and progress on a full suspension, especially if you're riding rougher trails like the video says. If you're still concerned, lockout your rear shock for a while. Your criticism of the video is that they are trying to get you to spend more money, if that's the case, wouldn't they advise everyone to do what you're doing- to buy two bikes instead of one?
@jetsgo66
@jetsgo66 7 лет назад
Travis Campbell do what you want dude. Most people start when they are younger or just don't want to drop the extra grand for a full sus. But it's a fact hardtails are better for learning skills just like flats are better to learn on. It teaches you to rely on you body movement and positioning rather than your equipment.

Preston Harris since I started riding a fully rigid 29er. My skills got huge. Full suspension bikes allow you to do a lot of mistakes and keep going, on a fully rigid, a mistake is usually a crash. I love that, you control the bike. You should try fully rigid single speed....

I've been borrowing a friend's full-suspension MTB for a while, but now I got myself a hard-tail hybrid just for fitness training around the city, not a real MTB. I've noticed that the seat now suddenly transmits every little bump (even slight street bumps) directly to my bum bones, and it hurts like hell. Is this normal for a hard-tail hybrid bike at the beginning? And will it get better with time? (Thanks in advance!)

i use a hard tail and i don't know why but going over bumpy trails seem more fun that using a full suspension mainly because hard tails keep you more aware and you have to play close attention to were your next move will be.
@ticktockbam
@ticktockbam 2 года назад
Isn't there a risk of developoing some kind of back pain as a result of your back disks touching each other constantly because of using a hardtail bike over a full suspension one if you, let's say, live in an area where rock roads/bumpy roads are the norm? To be honest, I'd prefer having a healthy back over paying less for a hardtail.

@thewalls2404
@thewalls2404 3 года назад
@@brinty4334 Very true but the discussion in question is about full Vs hardtail and therefore what she is saying is that all Mountain bikes have one of these. She is not discussing tires. If you go down that road then the entire bike has some degree of suspension, the flexibility of the frame, forks and handlebars as well as the deformation of the wheel structure through elastic deformation of the spokes under tension - and the tires. But that's not what she's talking about. She's wrong, of course, there are mountain bikes without suspension - my Marin Rocky Ridge, a classic in it's day (1993), has none. Its still going strong - which is more than can be said for my elbows, knees, back and neck...

Just a second, Hardtail can sometimes tackle rough terrain better and Jump because the are more agile and most of the time lighter, plus, you can do just as big of jumps on a hardtail as long as you know what you are doing, just have the back wheel land just a little bit quicker than the front, so all of the energy gets absorbed by the suspension in the front (if you have suspension)

She's promoting the sale of full suspension over Hardtail mountain bikes! It takes many more skills to ride a Hardtail VS a Full Suspension! A Hardtail is much faster and more agile than a full suspension! The only reason a person should get a full suspension mountain bike is if they have medical problems, such as a bad back! Ride what's best for you!

I'm sorry Trek, you're an amazing company that makes amazing bikes, I'd love to one day own another, but there is so much left unsaid here that I cannot and will not show this to my beginner mtb friends, as well as everything said below my comment about not all bikes having suspension and all the other things , what struck me probably the most is talking about full suspension bikes like they are the only bikes that can be upgraded with new/different/better parts. This video is misleading as is the title, and gives a fraction of the information that it could give; the size of that fraction is not something I will decide, but I'm sure I could do better describing than this video in its intended purpose and in a similar time, cause I have done so to friends and others, and have gotten them interested in MTB. I'm working to help 2 of them buy their first good (non-Walmart ) mountianbike currently.

Was a lifelong hardtail guy. Bought a scott genius. Recently was having buyers remorse and bought a hardtail. Rode it 5 times and realized full suspension is the only way to go. There are no benefits of a hardtail unless you are on a smooth surface. Having at least 100mm of rear suspension and 120 on the front are essential on a trail regardless of how easy its perceived. Just have a lockout and its golden when needed.

I believe there is some misinformation in this video. If you are a beginner, you won't have the skills to ride technical terrain and so you don't need a full-sus. Hardtails are lighter, simpler and a lot cheaper than full-sus and are easier to learn new skills on. Less suspension means more pedalling efficiency.

I’m estimating approx. 30-40% on mountain bike trails with the rest being spent on gravel trails, and you occasional paved pathways with my spouse. Nothing looks better than a small frame 29er (Throw up noise) 27.5 ftw Are you riding a bike anywhere other than the street? That's great, get a full suspension bike.

is it easier to wheelie on a hardtail or is easier on a full suspension bike? (sorry if i spelled something wrong)

imo hardtail is easier, because when you wheelie a full sus and tap the brake the shock compresses causing you to go further back. That doesnt mean you cant wheelie it tho.
