Noted your comments about issues with riding the sometimes sandy terrain at Moab. One of the bike shops told me to run a wider front tire (2.5-2.6") to help it stay on top of the sand...Really worked for me. Still mtb'ing at 76 here; so, you have plenty of time...

That's good to hear! Yeah, I run 2.5's front and rear.

The opening statement is spot on, at 50+, my ability to push the limits without bumping into stupid is disappearing quickly. I'm still really good at falling, but soon, there won't be any good way to fall. There is full blown panic on what needs to be done before I have to slow down. Just take that fear and turn it into action - hit Moab, hit Whistler (with Vancouver and Squamish) and the alps. Don't wait - do it now.

I was thinking in terms of arthritis, but you're right. Falls will cause much greater injury with age as well! I'm overall pretty careful when I ride. No shame in walking. I'd rather be able to ride tomorrow than be in a cast for 8 weeks!

I know what he means about time running out. I’m 78 and I have various health problems including cancer. I’ve been riding many years but my health has lead me to either quit or buy a e-bike, of course I went and bought a Levo, fantastic. I’ve got to make the trip from Northern California to Moab again! Yep, started in my 30's as well. I'm 42 now, and it just gets stronger every year! Is this the mid-life crisis I've always heard so much about? lol

These are always beautifully shot! I've been nursing a slight injury, unrelated to mountain biking but its kept me off the bike for a month now. I occasionally have the feeling of time running out. Its shocking how fast time can go when you get stuck in the routine of life.

@huntstyle
@huntstyle 4 месяца назад
@@dad2trips52 for peak fall colors, usually about the first full week of October is best. There is of course risk of an early snow, which is true of just about any mountain area when the colors peak! I also love June, but not every trail is open yet.

So regarding camping in Moab, there's a huge area of dispersed camping on the road to Klonzo, the turnoff is near the Moab Giants dinosaur museum. I do believe there is a fee now, but you can usually find a site outside of holiday weekends and there are toilets in that dispersed camping area as well. You can also pedal straight over to Klonzo if you feel like riding Moab's most IMBAfied trail system. It looks like a fun ride, definitely spicy enough for a blue to be worth riding. I did a partial WE in late 2021 (late october so could only drop in at Kokopelli), and that is a very demanding ride, 23 miles of mostly pedally black tech, don't let the lack of climbing fool you, there's lots of punchy moves into features on UPS/LPS/Porc Rim. My personal favorite section was the massive slab rolls on UPS.
@huntstyle
@huntstyle 4 месяца назад
Yeah, I was looking at the in-town campgrounds. It's a bit of a drive up there. I had points for the rest of the trip, so it was still a pretty cheap trip overall! I did 3/4 Enchilada back in 2020. Definitely a grueling ride. UPS/LPS is more XC, not really downhill. Porcupine Rim was my favorite part!

Nice video! Makes me want to go back to Moab (Just got back from Moab) I had headset issues with My Jeffsy, I rode it 3 times when it was new before I realized they never pre loaded the thing at the factory (now I know to check this when assembling a new bike) Anyway about a year later the Acros headset was making the same noise yours was in this video. Even after service it still made noise on longer rides, super annoying while climbing! I replaced with a King and no more noise. I also had issues with the linkage squeaking in the first 6 months. I had to tear it apart, clean and re lube all pivot points, that was a job! My seat post failed the day I arrived in Ketchum on a 3 week road trip from Southern California. $350.00 and 4 hours later I was out on the trail. from what I read that day the SDG Tellis seat post (YT Rebrand) has been known to do this. Fortunately I live down the street from YT and upon my return they gave me a brand new post so now I bring that as a spare when I'm on trips. Not bagging YT here. I love the Jeffsy and the guys at the Mill have always been good to me, I did however want to share some of my experiences with the bike in the interest of wasting less time. Enjoy Moab!
@huntstyle
@huntstyle 4 месяца назад
My 2017 Jeffsy I never once touched the headset! Never had any issues with it. It's still smooth and silent. Thought about servicing it, but since I didn't have issues, I just left it alone. So that was kind of surprising. It's also an Acros. I was already thinking about a King headset when this issue came up. For sure I'll do the same if it continues to have problems. I hated the "YT Postman" dropper, so I swapped it out with the PNW from my old Jeffsy - which I've had problems with (scratching the stanchion) but they have replaced it for free under warranty, and actually upgraded me to the Loam dropper.

What brakes are on your bike? I've got XT's on my Delano and I get some clicking from the brake pads rattling in the calipers. Edit: Now that I watch more of the video, I hear two different sounds. A click and a creak. Hve you tracked the source down yet? Edit 2: I really should finish the video before commenting lol

@@oklahotb3217 Oh, and yes, there was another noise, which was the stem. When I put the bike together I did the traditional X pattern of tightening the stem. Turns out that was wrong. I looked at the instructions (oops, might have tossed those aside the first time!), and with this Renthal stem you're supposed to torque down the bottom screws first. Did that, and it took care of it!

The bike shop didn’t ruin you plan. You ruined your plan by not knowing anything about basic maintenance. .
@huntstyle
@huntstyle 10 дней назад
LOL! The bike was still new, barely ridden to that point, no maintenance should've been needed yet. Not my fault YT failed to properly grease the headset when they built the bike (also a crappy headset that has since been replaced with a Cane Creek 110) But yeah, it's amazing that my old Jeffsy gave me 6 years and was still dialed in when I got the new one, considering I did all maintenance on it myself while "not knowing anything about basic maintenance."
