A cool little tip i saw on the DerMaterialtester channel. How to tie your Mountain/Hiking boots. It also works well for boots without the small hook / dermaterialtester
I've had Lowa combats for about 10 years, thanks for this tip, makes it way better tying the laces this way. I've showed it to a couple of others in my woods group!
Oh my goodness. Your wearing socks. I was wondering if you owned any lol. Thank you for this video and all you do. I'm a disabled vet and watching outdoor videos really helps me from going off the deep end. And thank you for commenting back as much as you do. Take care, stay safe, and stay warm:)
My wife learned it that way from an Austrian mountain guide when She was still a mountaineer. And after showing your vid, She tells me so.... Now, She used to work in outdoor shops for about thirteen years, and we've been together for six of those...never told me.... So, Lars, tusind tak.
A friend and serious mountaineer showed me this lacing style. Glad I watched your video. I have been looking at Haix military style boots since I live in the mountains.
I just watched your other video for the regular hiking boots and I have boots similar to these as well this is awesome. Thanks for sharing Lars this is definitely helpful
Thank you for this great video. When I got to the 3:48 mark, I froze the screen, got out my Lowa Camino GTX hiking boots, and laced them up as you showed. I love these boots, but the lacing system was always a little confusing, and my toes felt cramped - probably because I was cinching the lower part of the laces down too hard. The double knot at the ankle joint, which you showed, also gives me more flexibility and the grip of the collar around my ankle is much more secure. Can't wait to get back on the trails and try the new arrangement out.
I tie my boots slightly differently. I miss the second from top hook and go straight to the top hook, wrap around and then drop one to the second from top hook (the one you missed) It stops the lace from riding up over the top of the tongue. My boots do not have the hook on the tongue. Great video and youve got a new sub from the UK.
That's the classic "alpin / mountaineering" way of lacing a boot, which is quite old & proven. It is used in order to achieve a different lacing-tension between foot and lower leg/ankle. It really works, not only with HAIX "Mountaineering" boots. Some modern boots kind of "lock" the lace in place, so the different tensions can be achieved with standard lacing, too. ATB Gereon
Good to see old school never dies, ex para . We also used para cord , about 20 feet or so as extra cord and wrap around ankles. just more kit you ever have to pack.
when tying the bow on top i always wrap around the standing loop twice before passing through. no need for a double knot unless you need to take up slack afterwords. ive never had it slip.
I done a ten mile hill walk across the ochills in Scotland the other day and my lowa mountain gtx either ripped my heel to shreds or cut off the circulation on the top of my feet. I had to keep stopping and changing how tight each part was and have had these boots for about 4 years they are amazing on flats and walking in the woods but up until this video they where rubbish on the hills. Thank you
I sometimes tie them in but mostly when wearing higher boots. I of course tuck my laces away:) Just a demo video on the tying. I bought the boots back last winter when i made a good deal on some WW2 stuff. Boots is one of the items i will not compromise on price and quality wise or buy as surplus LOL
just got a pair of haix desert tactical boots - grade 2 for £20, just washed them in the machine - now there grade 1 lol. my laces are already waxed (hikers walking waxed laces), there very good & can be used as a garotte tool :) boot vr up soon
I will actually do a review soon, now that i have used them summer/winter. Haix are really good boots in league with Lowa. I gotta look a the camo clip. Did not notice that:) What kind of wax you use. I tried bees wax but it wears off over time of course. Binds very well though.
Excellent and well informative video MoscowPrepper....I too wondered what the eyelet was for, even though I have worn boots for years! Now I know thanks to you! :-)
my friend stocks haix boots - what do you think of them? great idea for strong boot tying technique - never seen that before. i use waxed flat laces - you can get them nice a tight and they dont slip off the lugs. also your digi cam top is perfect for the tree behind you at the start of the video :)
Very similar to Dutch Army boots. They have a triangle to pass the laces through. Using that extra eye, also insures that the shoe tongue will not shift and the boots are always water tight.
Do you know I have always wondered how to incorporate that middle hook into the lacing of my lowa combat boots and now you have answered the question! THANK YOU ! Plus I look forward to trying the more correct way to tie my laces.... very useful video! :-) best wishes Vee
Dutch Army boots have a triangle to pass the laces through. Using it, also insures that the shoe tongue won't shift and keeps the boots water tight and comfortable.
very very koOl`!! i am happy to see people acctualy realy trying to explore new things `! :) thank you very much for english version now and the support your giving me `! :D thank you and all the best to you`! Stefan
hi the haix tibet are on the haix site because i'm looking at the right now not sure if it's the same site as the german one but on the belgian haix.be there on at 229eur peace
Moscowprepper nice granny knot. to get it level when you double knott lace. if the first knot is right over left then the double or second has to be left over right
Thank Tito:) I think Stefan have a quite good channel. I will have a video up later especially for you and Funkyprepper :) Just hang on LOL Yes the boots are very nice:) All the best and peace out
In Germany at a shop called ASMC. Just google it as i can't post a link. YT does not allow that... Put "Tibet boots" in the search field of the web site. They are in stock but not cheap at all:) Cheers mate
I bought some German Army winter boots while stationed in West Germany during the early 80’s, I used them when I was a state trooper in Virginia and while working an accident on the interstate highway a reporter took a picture of me and put it in the paper. My sergeant saw the picture and almost had a cow. He let me know that those boots were not authorized with our uniform 😉😂
Never seen that before mate. My boot's are just standard military issue, they don't have those catches but ill store the intel for the future as always. ATB Moose
Thanks for the quick response. I know their not cheap but can you ever really put a price on your feet??? I read there the new British Army issue, in brown. I've done some research and found them to be good all round boots and like you said in par with Iowa. Even better I just found them on Amazon at £159:99. You get what you pay for I think. Again thank you very much. ;-} Be safe.
hey thanks for the reply. i meant by this B:1 (Hill Walking Boots) These boots are only suitable for the easiest of winter walking conditions. They are compatible with Crampon Grade C:1 and would be used in very short time period’s and emergencies, eg like crossing a small patch of snow NOT A FULL DAY’S WALKING IN CRAMPONS. The soles in these boots tend to have the ability to flex. B:2 (Mountaineering Boots) All of these boots are for use with Crampon Grade 2. All of these boots are for use with Crampon Grade 3. These boots have a full shank2 that completely stops the boot from flexing lengthways.
+bolgerisdashizz I can only tell you my opinion and experience with these boots. I am not happy about them at all. I used them for 3 yrs now and wanted to like them, but i don't. They a not good in even moderately cold weather meaning from 0 C - minus 10 C. The aggressive looking soles are actually very slippery. They work OK on mud and rock though. On compacted snow and so they suck. On ice only crampons/spikes works of course. Try and step on some wet wood with these boots.... Generally the fail in most conditions where they should work. They are made for Army use and should be all-round boots even they are mountain boots. They suck driving in as an example. I expected a LOT more from HAIX and that was why i bought them. I will rate them 3 or 4 out of 10.
+Survival Russia hey thanks again. You know really disappointed to hear that especially as I've just gone a bought the haix k2 boots. Still waiting for them in the post. I'm surprised by that to as haix have a good reputation. I've had a pair of haix Tibets for 9 years and really i have to say that I have had no problems at all with them up until now. After 9 years the grip has gone so i wanted a new boot for rocky mountainous terrain. What boot would you recommend ?
+bolgerisdashizz The K2 boots might work and be just fine. Like your Tibets, i bought these to get a pair of boots which would last in the 10 years range. I don't think these would last that long. The leather is too soft. Anyway for good boots, i would say Han Wag, Meindl and Lowa. I had a pair of Han Wag boots and they were indestructible. Very stiff soles too but that's good thing.
Hello how are these haix in the long term for comfort and durability on long hikes on considering buying a pair of these or the meindl German army Mountain Boot. Thanks
@@SurvivalRussia thank you for the advice my friend I be hiking over Moor land fields and some rocky paths. Have you experience of the meindl German army boots?
haix boots are unisex design more or less, the military/police boots anyway because we use them as standard boots in the belgian army so you will probably find them in small sizes for women peace
Thanks for the video . :) I always wear boots and and this video was very informative. thanks :) Edit. I now feel I can kick a door in with confidence now I own a pair of Lowa boots. lol
@@SurvivalRussia of all the things didn't expect to learn how to get the most out of boot laces today, though imagine the tribal style remove that problem
Notice you don't wear gaiters with your hiking boots.I use gaiters made out of wet-suit material they keep your socks dry and your laces in order. My wife gives me grief if I don't wear them because my socks end up full of seeds and crap. To be serious I have herd of a couple of incidents of people been found dead from exposure retying their boot laces, strange but true.
