You know you have a mountain lion lurking so you leave your sliding door and your barn open?? And you are surprised you have an injured dog and dead goats.....
In my opinion this woman's response in this interview shows "No emotion" for her pet dog: besides stupidity and laziness for leaving the sliding door open!
its seems the woman I can see her kinda smiling while talking to the camera not even concern about her pet instead. she know that there is a Mountain lion in her yard and she still didn't closed the sliding door
Obviously she didn't give a crap about her goats!! If you lock them up at night and the cougar cannot get in, the goats won't die.....but you have to care first.🐐
@explorer909 when your dog is in this much danger, a true animal lover will do what it takes . Pumas can be run off , intimidated and that's all I need to save one of my dogs. Different types of people, that's all.
Smart phones have been very helpful for figuring if someone is a total sociopath. Imagine watching your family member or a pet suffering and your first instinct is to whip out a phone and record it for social media.
Her dog probably was choked unconscious because the mountain lion had no teeth in the front. The same thing probably happened to the goats if they had no incisions.
This woman should not own animals....inside or out. Made no attempt to scare the cat away from her poor dog + took no action to protect her goats outside. Should have anticipated more trouble + put the goals in whatever outdoor building they have for them. Seems a bit clueless.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 your an actual clown. tf you want her to do? She look like she couldn't even run for 10 secs straight but you want her trying to fend of an animal she was prob scared shitless of? Not everyone is willing to die for a dog lol
@@missjo2036 People are allowed to talk shit. What are you, the shit police? Did they hurt your poor wittle feelings? You can go back to your safe space now
The average Wildlife Management worker lacks the training and experience in animal behavior that I’ve acquired. We Animal Behaviorists do have the internet and our special interests lead us to scroll animal videos, ya know. Thanks for this opportunity for me to shine!
@@lsun6288 sure sure. Internet expert, that’s your rebuttal? They said the mountain Lion was missing teeth. The video is so blurry you can’t even see the eyes, yet you can tell it’s not senile? If that mountain Lion was healthy then the dog would be gone. She accepted the risks involved in staying there to hunt? Like she knows that humans are going to put her down? Only reason she was there was because it became impossible to hunt in her usual territory. Another reason to prove she was ill. Shine away lol
@@josepha6621 I know how modern cover-yer-ass public relations works, and "old and senile" is code for "We'll get a lot of flak about euthanizing this cougar from the same idiots who will accuse us of dereliction of duty if this obviously emboldened cat kills somebody or somebody's pet. Let's avoid unjust public criticism by saying she's already dying."
@@pricklypear7516 that’s a fair point and I can certainly understand it being applied to certain situations. However this mountain Lion, named P1, was 16 years old.
This is California. We ALWAYS have mountain lions lurking. Just because you can't see them, doesn't mean they are not there. And 99% of the time, they never mess with people or pets.
I am up in Ojai and we have had two incidents, one, a woman was walking her dog on leash and a mountain lion attacked her dog (40 lb) and she played tug-of-war with a mountain lion, the lion then dropped the leash and threatened the woman, she let go of the leash and the lion took her dog never to be seen again. Another case the dog was off leash and was attacked and dragged away by the mountain lion, but two people chased the lion with the dog in its mouth and they harassed the lion and it let go and the dog survived.
@@alwaysfourfun1671 you should really stay on your couch. So you're telling me that I shouldn't be hiking on a trail that is 16 inches wide that is going through a landscape that hasn't been changed or modified for hundreds of thousands of years? Anthropomorphism is a really silly mindset. Grow up.
@@Riceman-o1p I do not stay on my couch and I would hike those trails. Nobody is telling you not to. All the better to share the habitat with mountain lions, black bear, etc.
@@Riceman-o1p You need to look up "anthropomorphism" to learn that it simply doesn't apply to this comment. And your arguments are just plain silly. Human habitation HAS encroached on the huge territories cougars need for hunting, and they HAVE resulted in the loss of cougars' prey animals. That "16 inch wide trail" is proof positive that the landscape has indeed "been changed or modified," idiot. The wildlife sure as hell didn't put it there for their own pleasure and ease of travel.
I love that they specifically said "STAY INDOORS..", and she still took all the dogs out anyway and saw the lion. And if it had attacked again she would have been hysterical on the news" OMG WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?!" 🤨🤦🏾
She says "I came home to feed my outside pets" in the original news video yep you're sticking food outside of course the mountain lion likes your house!
I keep my doors closed and locked to keep people out. I never thought of a wild animal walking in like it owned the place. We have coyotes but they're usually scared to death of humans. We also used to have raccoons, possums and skunks, but except for a rare skunk I don't ever see those animals anymore. I don't know if it's because my neighbor got a dog or what. I miss them.
@@carolhutchinson7763 we still have all those damm skunks are the worst everytime i would open the window at night for cool air here comes that stank😋what parts u from were southern California
@@IVANMONSTER69: I'm in southern California too. When I was a child my parents lived in a house near the Verdugo Mountains and there were times when we had whole families of raccoons in the yard drinking out of the swimming pool and trying to eat the garden hose. There was a fence full of vines and I would hear them climbing over it. Now I'm in an apartment but lucky enough to have a front yard and several years ago there was a bunch of them out there. Now I just see an occasional skunk or coyote. Sometimes when I'm outside or driving with the window down I can smell a skunk. One night I saw my dog with a skunk walking upsidedown on it's front legs and I knew it had been sprayed. It smelled like burned tires. An emergency vet clinic told me how to get the dog clean.
What angers me the most is the people who bring these helpless vulnerable pets into their home knowing that they're bringing them into an unsafe environment, such as these in the wild where beasts lurk around nearby and can easily enter the home, their pet being the target. I've seen so many of these horrors happen where it was recorded by the owners and later put on RU-vid, each time the owners of their pet who died a gruesome death due to their ignorance, negligence, are so damn nonchalant, which goes to show that they never cared about the well-being of the pet in the first place, reason why they had zero qualms bringing them into danger. Too selfish wanting a cute pet, to care that it will get savagely eaten alive by a wild cat or other wild beast. Their reaction says everything, absolutely heartbreaking and disturbing. There should definitely be a law that prohibits people to own pets in places that jeopardizes their safety.
I disagree. There are plenty of people who live in those environments that take extra precautions to ensure their beloved pet’s safety. It is the selfish people that should not be able to have pets, in any environment.
She left her sliding glass door open, knowing that wild animals lived around there. Responsible people know how to guard their pets and livestock. That lady was irresponsible.
@@slbellue6874 There's just no safe way for a pet to live in an area full of dangers. Something fatal can happen at any moment at the slightest mistake, like leaving a door open. It's just not worth the risk bringing these babies into this scary environment, one that can bring them a gruesome death.
Went jogging on a trail in CA saw a sign that read "Beware of Mountain Lions walk or jog in 2's.." So now while I jog around the local high school track....
The wildlife dept called the puma “senile.” That’s about as funny as it is stupid. Did they conduct a feline psychoanalysis on her? Pumas live to be 9-11 or 13 years if lucky in the wild. It was only when we humans extended our lifespan by 100% that we started to live to an age long past wild viability and this be given the luxury of growing senile in our older years. When Pumas develop medicine and communities that support them long past their ability to hunt, and start living to 25-30 years old, then I will believe they can be senile. She wasn’t too senile to return to the same residence and kill two goats. That doesn’t sound like senility. That dept should just keep it real- the cat found it’s way to easy street and was settling in like a Queen who will take its pet and child subjects as a meal frequently. That’s why she had to be deposed.
It sounds like senile in the sense of missing teeth and not being able to catch real prey, what in Africa and India made “man eaters” out old or wounded lions and tigers. She was resorting to risky hunting around humans because she was desperate.
@@crzrckok..? doesnt make it any less true lmao. their population is steadily declining due to human encroachment. we NEED predators on this planet because every part of the food chain serves its purpose. go educate yourself.
You can have a gun in California. You just can't carry it around loaded in a pocket or purse, which I don't agree with. If you're caught with it on you, at least it's only a misdemeanor. Some states, mostly in the Northeast, would have it be a felony.
@@carolhutchinson7763Then move. Thank God we don't have psychos running around w loaded pistols. A serious recipe for disaster. Alabama still awaits you, dear. Don't worry.
She did have a gun in her home. Guess you purposely missed the part where she clearly said she fired her gun as a warning shot to scare off the lion. That's when the lion went away for a while. Then she took her dogs outside for a walk or something and saw the lion again.
For some reason mountain lions in California have little or no fear of humans. For some reason mountain lions in my state have a healthy fear of humans. Any theories?
Well, you didn't name what state you are from so that makes it harder for anyone to answer you, but I'd guess that because CA is a highly populated state with many big cities there is a lot more encroachment into mountain lion territories everywhere. Mountain lions with territory bordering on cities will become accustomed to human presence.
It sounds as if the dog smartly played dead. Which is something that doesn’t generally work with a cougar. Perhaps the dog could sense something about the physical condition of the animal? They’re predators, too.
Well what do you all expect It's not like these animals live in apartments or houses They run around in the wild They are just trying to survive as well They see food they go get it
In related news: humans destroy mountain lion habitat for new housing starts and then act shocked when those same animals find alternate food sources in order to survive.
Wait wait wait. Does one person on here really act like they are better then animals. hellooo, they feed us and give us yummy steak and bacon. Dude if u take over an animal habitat ofc you'll see it in ur area eventually. It happens where I live
I told people 20 years ago when CA stopped hunting lions this would happen. If you don't scare lions and bears away and thin them out, people become prey. Hunting is conservation and control
@stevebutler8387 So where did you get your degree in conservation? There are myriad ways to avoid unpleasant encounters with wildlife without the use of firearms. Being sensible and aware would be the highest method on my list.
I live in a state where lions like this can be dispatched by the property owner. Americans shouldn't need state permission to protect their property and animals.🙄
THIS. Here we have to hide the fact that we dispatched an aggressive animal. It's ridiculous. They even banned cougar hunting so now they over populate
NEVER leave food outside. Raccoons will attack cats as a pack. I've seen it myself and rescued the cat. ALL food should be indoors before sunset and not until well after sunrise. Lions, racoon packs, and coyotes and fox will figure out the cat or dog food and come looking. Removing it for a while won't work. Once they know your place they will check back now and then.
Especially coyotes because they are the smartest animals. Once they've made a kill or have found food there before they know where the location is and how to come back to it
2 takeaways.... 1. The mountain lion didn't seem senile. He seemed very in tune with his environment, which included a nice meal of goats whenever he wanted, just sitting there waiting to be had, and a door that gets left open for whenever he wants a different kind of meal such as a dog. And 2. Being that it's California, I'd be surprised if her neighbor doesn't do 20 years in prison for firing his gun. Only criminals in that state are allowed to do that. I'm also surprised every antigun person in that state isn't in front of his house protesting.
Just shoot the mountain lion, not waiting for Authorities . That is what I would have done, they would come quickly next time you call. My animals, my home so I own what ever trespasses !!
I would have shot it in the face when it was watching them through the window like if its caught on camera this dude is threatening the well being of others, there shouldnt be much of a case to deal with afterwards. Anyway bless that dog.
First thought was that the dog survived because the cougar was either young and inexperienced or old with blunt, worn, or missing teeth. But then the report said it came back and killed two goats in her barn. The dog is very lucky.
12 years ago. I had a mountain lion try to eat my chickens and my pack of 6 german shepherds were all sent out to teach it a lesson. It was never seen again ever since then. Never doubt the wild life!
Not sure why the neighbor took a “warning shot.” They let it get away and possibly desensitized it to the sound of the gun. I’m a staunch conservationist and big time environmentalist and animal lover but when a puma lives in a residential area, preys on pets, and comes INTO YOUR HOME without fear of humans, that’s when it’s time for some heavy LEAD POISONING. It’s only a matter of time before this cat will come into a home to prey on your kids. If you don’t think so then you don’t know carnivores or Felids. A puma will definitely eat your kid. It’s happened before. More than once.
And that's what happens when people take over the land that once used to belong to these creatures. So we unfortunately, have to learn how to get along with these animals.
@sharkkeeper01 you can't simply relocate a wildcat once they've established its territory they won't move its either the people who live close to mountain lion territory that should move or learn to live with wildlife animals
@@JosephMendoza-k1iwell seeing as mountain lions have lived pretty much all over North America… everyone give up your homes and move away now. I’d say move to the ocean or wherever but unfortunately… everywhere on this planet animals have lived on and do live… what a stupid comment and go give your head a shake.
When attacked by a larger predator, as a last resort, dogs often act as if are dead! I've seen it in a nature video, a leopard dragged a dog up to the tree, seems dead, but after the leopard left, dog jumped off the tree and ran away!
Officials say the lion was old and senile 1:50. Did they administer cognitive and neuropsychological tests to determine senility? Was this done by a medical professional?
So she lives in mountain lion country but she leaves her door open at night? Yeah, right! Then she goes outside knowing that the mountain lion is probably still out there. You can’t make this kind of stuff up.
How the lion was sitting there staring like, "Lady, I can do this all day. I'm like that Sting song. I'll be watching you.." 😐 And then he/she yawned at one point like they were right at home. 😅 Guess I'm the only one in this comment thread who still saw the cuteness in this deadly being. Lol. Also, when they said the lion was senile. Like they were describing an old, bothersome neighbor lady. 😂
Why would you leave your dog outside and the door open unsupervised? It’s her fault. Stay near the door when your dog is outside so if something happens you can run to the dog’s side real quick to help it. I have a dog that likes to sneak under the gate in my backyard and run to the front door. She needs to be watched or else she might get out and start running around the neighborhood. Possibly even get attacked by another dog that’s bigger and stronger than her
