The most fascinating thing is how the people did not instinctively get quiet when seeing a mountain lion stalking a deer, but kept talking as if they were watching a dog sniffing a dumpster
you are absolutely right. it is very strange these people are watching this as if its just something anyone can see if they wanted to in person.@@memedemy3905
@@JP-px4gp this represents some pretty cool tactics of the Lion...if deer are going to seek refuge near humans....the lions are gonna figure out that strategy.
He jumps as far and as silently as he can to minimize the distance between him and the deer before hitting the ground and turning on the after burners. That acceleration is insane!
I know this is a year late, but can we take the time to appreciate that the mountain lion legit did a butt wiggle like a house cat before pouncing. That was cute.
Once in a lifetime video. 9/10. Kitty gets venison tenderloin for lunch. Robert is chill and takes great steady video. Some of those others should have stayed at home.
That was Awesome! A real once in a lifetime moment caught perfectly. Seriously perfect distance and the fact that you were so calm..they pick up on their surroundings vibes so to speak. And he was so comfortable he was locked in on that deer ! You see him do the butt shake thing just before pouncing..very cool.(Just like my cat on his catnip mouse!) Again great catch. 🐱
There is no such thing as a perfect distance from a mountain lion. Did you not see how quickly it covered that ground to get the buck/doe? That was through cover and these guys were standing in the open. The cat was NOT comfortable with these people being here at all. It was focused on hunting and getting a meal. It probably had no idea they were even there until after it had killed it's prey.
"Bobby, can you please back up? Bobby? Bobby!" lmao Good job reading that cat though bro, and also showing it respect. Most cougars just want to be left alone by people.
This is awesome I saw this little article on Yahoo and it also had the other video from a different set of hikers who captured the mountain lion attacking the deer
I was hiking once and a mountain lion came out of the bushes 10 feet away from me. It's not surprising that this mountain lion ignored the people filming. They REALLY couldn't give a damn about people being near by.
You = me (another Robert btw) and your companion = my wife. I am all check this out and she is all flight, flight, flight! Awesome capture and a once in a lifetime encounter.
My son and I ran into Mountain Lion on this same trail several years ago... It was chasing two deer along the trail at full speed. The deer blasted past us and the Mountain Lion skidded to a stop in front of us. After a while if walked off into the woods off the trail...
@@RobertTurner2 I will elaborate. We were actually on the Laguna Meadows trail hiking to the South Rim. We go out on Laguna Meadows and return on the Pinnacle. We had our encounter near the Colima Trail cut-off. Your video is very similar to our event. The cougar stopped in front of us about the same distance. After it slid to a stop, it stood there panting for quite a while. Then it slowly walked off the trail and circled around us through the woods. We took a few images but didn't have the composure to video like you did... It looks like the same cat, it's possible we saw the same mountain lion...
@@seven_hundred-seven_hundred I was hiking the Laguna Meadows trail in Nov 2019 and saw several deer standing alongside the trail giving me a look like they wanted my trail mix. I can see how they become easy prey. Later that day after hiking the South Rim, I came across a momma Black bear and her cub forging for food at the stables located along the Boot Canyon trail. She didn't seem at all interested in me yelling at her to get off the trail. The wildlife at Big Bend seems very accustomed to human encounters.
@@JoeMandell- I have seen many bears at BBNP as well. I think they are less scared of humans due to fewer in the park and the extremely harsh conditions. Just my speculation. Most wildlife there is living in very marginal conditions.
This is awesome, I’ve met Mt. Lions in the wild terrifying but cool, they’re like giant pissed off house cats that took steroids. I bet your sound and smell helped him with that kill. Usually they sleep during the day and try to hunt at night.
Crazy that the encounter was in Big Bend National Park. I've been there once, and I think on that specific trail too. Next time I go there, I might invite my friend who knows how to use guns so I don't get pounced on by a cougar...
@@RobertTurner2 Yeah, it's a better idea, and it won't resort predatory animals dying because you're saving yourself from getting bitten and torn into shreds. I just assumed that in Texas that guns are allowed everywhere...
Being a city boy, am I the only one thinking these people were lucky the hungry ML noticed the Deer first? Also surprised at the speed of, and distance that animal covered in seconds, wow!
@@michaelmoore7163 mountain lions ain't like bears, plenty of incidents of mountain lions attacking multiple people. The danger with mountain lions isn't that its going to overpower you the danger is when you don't see the mountain lion until its got you by the neck. 2 guys hiking got attacked by a 100 lb mountain lion, it grabbed one by the neck the 2nd one ran so it let go of the first guy and chased down the 2nd guy who got eaten and first guy ran away. Was another incident here in cali where lady got bit on the neck really bad but her friends fought it off however when the helicopter got there they could see it maybe 20 feet away from the group of hikers and search and rescue officers and all of them couldn't scare it off, like a literal helicopter flying low wouldn't make it leave its food. And ya man I thought the exact same thing, just imagine it went for the hikers instead, they definitely weren't all turning around and running away before it got there.
The same scene was playing out before me once. Cat was on the trail. It saw me coming and didn't run. The deer were in a gully behind me. I was in-between the cat and its food. I didn't stick around to find out what would happen!
pinnacles trail somewhere between juniper flats and boulder meadows campsites EDIT* I was wrong. It was after BM5 campsite. 1.9 miles up Pinnacles trail from the lodge
Hi Robert, my name is Mitchell, I'm a reporter with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. That's an awesome encounter. Could I have your permission to use this video for a story? We would credit you and also link to the video.
People always have something negative to comment on the internet. If I see a mountain lion hunting a deer, I will probably talk to the people I’m with. Also doesn’t hurt to make your presence known even if the lion would have detected them before. I doubt I’ll miss too much important dialogue between the animals.
You know in a movie when there is that talker at an intense scene and yoy want to stand up and yell STFU! Yeah, thats what I was thinking durring this clip. Talking and moving around scares the animals away. Next time just get quiet, don't move, watch and record.
It's Like One Of Those Scary Movies Where You Know They Got Killed But All You Do Is Hear Is The Casualty Leaving You With Mind Full Of Ideas .. Yepp This Is One Thosee ..
Seriously, it's like they were watching tv...STFU something amazing is going down in front of you! I bet they are the type to chat like that inside a movie theater.
I would have scared off the deer because it was likely distracted by the people and oblivious to the actual danger nearby. Those people benefited the lion.
