I just finish this cardigan as a gift for my younger brother...I couldn't believe just how beautiful of a pattern it is. Thank you so much for sharing your designs with us, they are amazing.
Thank you!!! I’m so happy this is beginner friendly - and that I can watch you while I work (I’m a visual learner). I‘ve been wanting to crochet my brothers a cardigan for Christmas and this is just perfect. It’s also so wonderful because one of my brothers has longer arms. So thank you for that.
Finally a tutorial I can follow! Looking forward to making this for my old man💙💖💙 He has wanted me to make one, which I did however it was way to big in the sleeves 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ 🤞🏽I don’t mess up so he can call it his cigar sweater 💖 Thank you MJ Leticia
Hi, just bought your pattern, so excited to crochet this cardigan for my husband. I have to add that you explain this pattern so well. Thank you so much. ❤
I am so excited about this! I love this pattern, just started it today 🙌, and it's working up beautifully. I decided to use my caron pound of love. I also purchased enough yarn for another of your tutorials, for a long cardigan. Thank you so very much ❤️ 😊
Just finished my Mosaic cardigan I made for myself as a pattern test (LOVE!!!) and starting this Mountain Ridge today in a handsome, deep olive green for my Father in Law. I’ve gone with a 4 weight and smaller hooks so adjusting stitch counts/rows as needed for measurements. Fingers crossed my math pans out LOL Your PDF via Ravelry makes my life easier for sure. 😊 Thanks again for yet another amazing tutorial, MJ 🧶 ❤️
Thank you so much, MJ! I'm currently working through this pattern and tutorial. There's one part that I've reached that is unclear to me and I was hoping you might be able to help get me back on track: For the back, you do 44 rows, but then you add the two additional rows for the right and left shoulder. So, that first piece is 46 rows total (with a gap in rows 45/46 for the neck). So far, so good. I'm unclear about the front panels... The instructions for those also go to 44, BUT when we start to sew them to the shoulder we're now matching up a piece that is 46 rows (when we include the two 45/46 rows for the shouder) to a piece that is 44 rows. I thought perhaps those extra rows are compensated for when we attach the arms, but that doesn't seem to be the case because the instructions for attaching the arm piece is to have it centered with the shoulder seam. If we do that and then fold it over, then our front panel remains two rows too short compared to the back. As we work the seam past the armpit attaching the panel to the back, we will come up short, right? I'm sorry if you addressed this in the tutorial and I just missed the explanation. Thanks in advance! I'm looking forward to finishing the pattern! 🙂
I'm looking through the pattern, and think I've made a mistake. I would add two additional rows to the front panels so that the panels line up. Thank you for pointing that out.
Very easy and simple to follow video/pattern! My only concern is that I followed your video to make a large cardigan (my husband is similar build/height as your husband) however when complete, my cardigan looks like a child’s size cardigan. It is tiny! This is for my husband’s birthday and I’m afraid he won’t fit in it. Nonetheless it was very fun and quick to make!
Was the number of stitches and rows equal to the gauge and the finished measurements the same as the schematic? Did you use the same yarn? The #5 I used is more like a #6. My husband is 6’1 and 190lbs. So if everything is the same the sweater should be the correct size.
I didn’t use the same yarn as we don’t have a store around that carries that brand. I just thought you could use any size 5 yarn but sounds like I should have used a 6 instead.
@@kaylaburk9256 Not necessarily; every yarn is different, so the gauge is the most important factor when making garments. Some #6 yarns would be too thick. I always give a sub-list on the blog for yarns that I think will work. You can also use yarnsub.com
Thank you for tutorial. I am relatively new to crochet. My question is, when counting the rows from the edges upwards, starting with one single crochet, then getting into extended single crochet. Do I count the single crochet, row as the first row, or am I starting counting only, when doing the extended single crochet? Thank you so, much.
I only have weight #4 yarn what's the difference in the pattern can i use the same stitch pattern or do i change hook size up or down or hust double the tarn help and thank you, i have been looking for this type of sweater for my grandsons/ Godsons for years
So I promised my boyfriend about a month ago I would make him a cardigan and added that I didn't have a pattern I liked yet. *Well I can no longer procrastinate because THIS pattern is perfect and I really like it. This week I will get started on making this cardigan for him. Thank you for sharing your gift and talent with us.* BTW: The cuff and what I can see of the sleeve of what you are wearing is gorgeous! Did you make the sweater you are wearing in this video?
So my sleeves came out too short and too narrow if I adjusted and ended up with more stitches, would it affect the final outcome or how I would put it together???
I love the look of this pattern. Its going to be my next project, I'll be making it for my husband. I just wanted to ask why the Cardigan is crocheted in pieces and then stitched. I'm not a fan of stitching crochet or knitted pieces together and thought that perhaps this cardigan could have been crocheted in one piece and split when it comes to shaping the shoulders and left and front openings. That would mean only the shoulders and the arms would need stitching together, do you think that would be possible to do?
Hi I wanted to make this cardigan for my husband. But I was going to use a 4 ply worsted weight. Do you think it will work? Have you tried this before? I'm fairly new to wearables, buts it's going to be a gift. so I don't want to mess it up. thanks 😊
The sleeves calculations are very confusing. I couldn't understand what you were talking about at all. (I'm not a math person). I did 20 rows for the cuff to be sure it fit around his wrist, I'm just going to do the 19" sleeve.
Oh one question, what size is the cardigan of your husband? And how wool you need for this size? Sorry because I'm only in the start your video. But my husband William like sooo much this cardigan! It's beatiful! Greetings to South America, in the Nation of Argentina. In this place to begining the cold time👍😀😘🌹💝Marya Walace
Hi there! So I'm a beginner. I started this with standard super saver yarn. My back panel is 66 rows, my front panel I went up to 46 and just began decreasing. The decrease isn't as prominent as yours tho and can barely tell. Am I still doing it right?
So I have been working on this cardigan for about 4 weeks and I just realized that I messed up terribly, so I'm going to have to take the entire project out and start over. I was wondering if you have a video on how to check the gauge for this particular pattern? I've been searching your channel and I can't find anything for gauge swatches. Thanks.
I made it. Followed everything to a T for size xl. Ran out of yarn AND it was wayyyy too small for my husband. It was even too small for my son who is a men's small. Lots of work for nothing.
Did you use bulky weight yarn? Is your gauge correct? Did you compare the man’s body measurements to the size chart? If your gauge is correct the garment will come out to the exact measurements of the size chart.
The pattern says the video is a size large the number of rows for the ribbing is 42 u said in the video u r doing 42 rows for a medium did u mean a large?
@@mjsoffthehook ok thank u so much working on the back panel then I have to sew it together and add the ribbi g collar and the buttons and then done! Its for my dads birthday in September (iyh) Thank u for the awsome pattern!
You need to be following along with the pattern. Either the Free version or the paid PDF… the starting chain is the same for every size. Ch 7 and then follow along with the pattern for size 3x in parentheses. The video is an accompaniment to the pattern. Here is the Free pattern for blog subscribers www.mjsoffthehookdesigns.com/mountain-ridge-cardigan-free-crochet-pattern/
It is hard to know because every 3 and 4 weight are still different. You would have to do a gauge swatch to see. The yarn used is closer to a 6 so do a gauge swatch to see.
HELP!!! I can't meet guage!!! I've tried different hook sizes and yarn tension, but STILL can't get the back ribbing long enough. (I'm using bulky weight yarn) I can get to about 19", but the XL should be 24.5". I seriously have tried this a dozen times, and can't get past that. I purchased the pattern and it's unusable for me. HELPPPP!!!!!😵
Oh no!! Are you working 46 rows? Do you have a different brand of crochet hook you can try? Different brands of hooks will change your gauge. For example if I use a 6mm Furls streamline hook my gauge will come out totally different than if I use a 6mm dots crochet hook. Or I would suggest trying the “golden loop” technique to lengthen your stitches. Here is a helpful tutorial from my friend Bella coco crochet ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JSTbjj0PHzY.htmlsi=FR224w9IDXdDUh4i I hope this helps!
@@mjsoffthehook I did try a couple different brand of hooks, but I'll check out the video. And yes, I had 46 rows. Thank you for responding so quickly! Hopefully I'll get the cardigan finished by the time the cooler weather is upon us!😄
That video was very informative! But, it didn't help. I used yet another 6.5mm hook and after 46 rows it measures about 17".😭 I took a picture, but don't think I can upload it here. Any other ideas?
Sie zeigt es viel zu schnell und nur um zu sehen was sie da tut , ist ständig diese Übersetzung im Weg. Schade , schöne Jacke aber keine schöne Anleitung
I assume you know basic crochet stitches. This video is a accompaniment to the written pattern, you can also adjust the speed of the video to show it slower.
