Yeah it said Jicarilla Apache, they mislabeled them. They are the Gooday group from Ft. Sill, they're paint and traditional skirts and headdress look brand spanking new.

I think we if we as Indigenous people do not want our songs and dances posted, we should not be doing them in a public setting like this to begin with, nor should we allow it to be recorded. That goes for all tribes, all dances, and songs.
@Chipito2005
@Chipito2005 2 года назад
I get what you're saying but you're lucky to be able to do your dances in the first place and have them be seen the US government could have just said they were banned from preforming and left them at that
@Chipito2005
@Chipito2005 2 года назад
As an indigenous Maya person I wish I could find more dances of my people on the internet however we didn't keep a good hold of our traditions due to two massive genocides and that's why you see most of our dances look choreographed because we had to create new dances because most of our elders never really taught us how to do our dances or practices
@Redboy4
@Redboy4 2 года назад
@@Chipito2005 My point has nothing to do with the US government's ban from the past years. It has to do with keeping the sacred, sacred. There are things within our tribal communities that are not to be seen by outsiders, they are not for public consumption. Others, are more social and posting them is fine. That was the question/comment.

I am sorry if I have misidentified the dancers. This was a public performance at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture and I have nothing but respect for the dancers.

@Andy Fertal, we would like you to correct your mistake of identifying our family & tribe. We are the Gooday Family, Chiricahua/Warm Springs Apache. Originally from SE Arizona. Relocated in SW Oklahoma after imprisonment in SE United States. Renamed Ft. Sill Apache, not Jicarilla Apache, who does not do the Crown Dance and is from N.Central NM. You did not have permission for this post.

Do not put on public displays if you are worried about this "exploitation", I'm a Warm Springs Chiricahua Apache and a descendant of Talbot Gooday. Not to mention Victorio, Carl Mangas, Seth Mooda, Loco, and Chiricahua Apache scouts Martine and Guydelkon.

just know a federal law to protect Native dances from exploitation and over exposure is in the works. there will come a time when posting this kind of sacred activity will be a federal and criminal offense. then you'll get the picture. and know we're not messing around in protecting our dances. but I'm sure you as a white eye can afford the $300,000 fine !!!!
@AndyFertal
@AndyFertal 7 лет назад
I would support a law protecting exploitation of Native Americans in any way. Please help me to understand why you feel this represents exploitation.
@codygeewin5166
@codygeewin5166 7 лет назад
Your over exposing something that should not be exposed. Other people have said to take down the video. But your not. Thats why we need a federal law because of people exactly like you who think they can record what ever you want then post it. Like I said when you're contacted by the F. B.I then I'm sure you'll get the picture.

This is not a commercial site. I am retired and I make no money from this site. It is strictly a hobby. My purpose is to respectfully portray different aspects of our multi-cultural world here in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and specifically to encourage support for Native causes, which, in essence, are Human causes that we all must stand together for. I found this dance to be beautiful, inspiring and spiritual and I am very grateful that I was able to witness it. I believe that it will inspire others.
@codygeewin5166
@codygeewin5166 7 лет назад
Your not inspiring no one your offending people. since you're not going to remove just know in time that posting ceremonial scenes like this will be a federal offense!!!! I can't wait for that day to come!!!

You cannot post these kind of images !!! I am working currently with Tribal Nations, communities and pueblos to end the exploitation of our Native dances and songs. I urge you to remove this video immediately!. there will come a time when individuals like you will be committing a Federal crime by posting this kind of activity. SO you are forewarned !!!!
@AndyFertal
@AndyFertal 8 лет назад
This was a public performance at which photography was permitted. In truth, it was a demonstration of an actual ceremonial dance. It was performed at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I mean no disrespect by this posting. My intent is only to show examples of the beauty of native culture, and many other cultures, to foster better understanding among all people.
@shawnprice3894
@shawnprice3894 8 лет назад
It wasn't a demonstration !!! That's the problem with you Non-Natives !! Thinking what you think it is. Just know the grass roots moment Sacred Preservation which I am heading is pushing for a Federal law to protect our Native dances from exploitation and over exposure. Especially from that ridiculous organization the boy Scouts if America and the order of the arrow.

@@shawnprice3894 As an indigenous Maya person who never grew up with their culture and traditions i wish I could look up traditional Maya dances however I can't find any that were "authentic" because most of our people a who knew ceremonies and dances were killed in genocides or don't post videos of the traditions So it's hard to try to learn more about my people's dances and traditions when there's not many places where you can find it online
