Thank you! Phal. schilleriana has agressive roots and if the mount was larger it would be an even bigger root system. That plant is well established and loves its mount.
Salut, Olivier. Please do film an update on this mounting. I’m in the process of mounting the novelty phals. I’ve chosen terracotta, since they’re cheaper than wooden mounts. I mount them at the bottom of the pot, and hang them upside down. It seems to work. I keep a little moss inside the pot to keep the moisture level going.
Your idea is news to me but sounds a great idea! Good luck with it! I am sorry to report that the Phal. mentawaiensis in the video died on me. In the end, the plant was in too rough a shape to begin with. I should have waited a little longer for it to have more newer roots. The mounting is like repotting: it is stressful to the plant and the plant needs to be strong enough to survive the ordeal. I saw new roots and the timing was perfect in terms of season but the plant was too weak (you see it in the video: it was dehydrated). I had bought it 5 months prior and until I removed the moss I did not know how bad the root ball was. I stand by all the comments in the video though with the most critical one being that a mounted plant cannot wobble at all until it is firmly attached to its mount. Good luck with the new babies! Merci!
Hi there! I just discovered your channel and I am new to orchids. I wanted to know where did you get those terracotta pots that you have on the wall and how this you mount them? Thank you!!
If you live in the US, Home Depot carries that in the garden section. Also many orchid specialty stores carry that. I love it because it does not damage the plants and you can tighten it really well and hence prevent the mounted plant from wobbling (critical) and also you can readjust easily when needed.
Yes and totally DIY. I just had to trim off the length of the plastic hose inside the bottle to make it work as those HP containers are not standard depth
