Reading the comments I learned today that you love pineapple on pizza. 🤔😐 Quite a love/hate in the U.S. that's for sure. 😂 There are so many different *_nasi_* dishes in Malaysia. Never ending and all delicious looking. Very interesting to me. 👍
@ChasingaPlate
@ChasingaPlate 6 лет назад
haha the great pineapple debate! 😀 The Hawaiian pizza was one of only a handful of options when we were kids in New Zealand so it's pineapple all the way for us 😋😂 The nasi dishes sure are never ending here. We're really enjoying exploring them and finding out about new ones all the time. Plenty more to try! Thanks so much for watching and we're glad you enjoyed this one. Cheers, Thomas 😀

I got quite depressed after moving to the USA many, many years ago. I had no idea how bad the food here is. I think it's the main reason my weight remain the same as I was when I came here 30 years ago. I rarely eat fast food or drink sugary drinks, and mainly cook my own meals and exercise daily, so that's a plus for me. But seeing you guys eat good street food really bring back memories. Keep up with the good eats and thx for videos.

nasi kukus literally means steamed rice because they're cooked in that piled up steamer you mentioned. it's one of my favourite lunch dish because of how simple it is no need to trouble yourself of what to pick and choose and yet it's soooooooo good!

Try nasi tomato guys! I don't know where is the best place to get the best nasi tomato around KL and south Malaysia since I'm from northern part of Malaysia. By the way, when you get the right one..it is really delicious. The tomato rice comes with ayam merah, jelatah(mix of veggies) and air asam(maybe in northern Malaysia only). Sometimes jelatah is replaced with dalca cair in which the combo with dalca cair is far better for me. Dalca cair is mix of veggies in watery dall gravy that include carrot,potato,eggplant,long bean, chicken leg/neck. Nasi tomato is superrr delicious and nutritious too like nasi lemak. Goodluck dear food traveller!

Good for you guys! It's been a while since I've had nasi kukus, and I'm really glad you guys found a nice one. By the way, I've been wondering, you guys are now familiar with Nasi Kandar Pelita . nasi kukus is not really that special imho.
@truebluekit
@truebluekit 6 лет назад
Well, nowadays, what really is special? If you look hard enough, there's always someone selling even festive dishes every day. So, special foods are really subjective. I think people in general aren't necessarily looking for the most special or unique dishes, but dishes that are done very well. Just take a look at the humble nasi lemak. What's so hard about making it? But some places make them so well they can't make enough of them. So yeah, nasi kukus might not be all that special, but when done well... cheers!
@rizlanghazali985
@rizlanghazali985 6 лет назад
When you order soup at a Mamak Restaurant, you may want to ask whether they have different soup with different meat as opposed to one general soup with option of the meat like chicken, beef or mutton etc... I only order if it is Chicken, Beef or Mutton in its own soup. Because the Mutton will spoil the Chicken or Beef flavour. Ask for bread too to dip into the soup... :-D

You guys did it..... You guys found a famous restaurant I've never heard of. And to top it off, it had a variation of gulai that I've never had with the nasi kukus (steamed rice). The sweetness of the pineapple gulai must've been heaven with those steaming hot rice, my mouth is watering just thinking about it... To touch on the gulai/curry subject, to my understanding, gulai is the umbrella term for any and all liquid based side dish of the rice, while curry refers to a specific type of gulai. And for me, for it to be called a curry, it must have two things, the curry spices and santan (coconut milk). hope this helps. Oh, btw, you guys are a just couple of rice dishes short of a new top rice dishes to try in Malaysia video, if you know what I mean...

From Malay to Indian. At Borneo especially Sarawak, there's more than 20 races. So, there's so many cuisines & delicacies you guys give a go. Okay. I'd love guys to go to Malay wedding. Ilham Nasi Kukus is my fav place. Even though I live 30mins away from there, I'd go once a week to eat their nasi kukus. If you like spicy food, you should try Leko. They serve indonesian food, and the sambal is one of the best I've tasted. Order their spicy ribs and rice, you won't regret.

I would recommend you to try "warung cikgu", they offer nasi manggay ( nasi kukus + kuah + chunk of small pieces of chicken cut in dozens + extra spicy sambal ) and delicious coconut shake with vanilla ice cream and also air kelapa baldi to cool the spiciness off.

Gosh. This brings back memories. I used to eat at the same Nasi Kukus Ilham every Friday. The uniqueness is the gravy's mixture of sweet, sour, spicy and salty. You'll get a more even taste every mouthful if you mix the gravy with the rice fully before you eat. BTW - the corn drink is with artificial syrup. Watery. So-so taste. You were asking about location? Its in Mutiara Damansara. And I assume we'll see a video on Asam Pedas place nearby soon. There's also an ikan patin restaurant there but the prices can be very expensive.

Hi jumbeaux1! We really loved this dish! Mixing all the gravy and the rice gave such a brilliant flavour. It was a really special meal. Thanks for the info re location. We were just mentioning that we always put that info in the description so other people can find the details about where we eat. We didn't visit the Asam Pedas place this time but we did film another video in the area so watch out for that on the channel soon. Thanks for watching! Cheers, Thomas 😀

Hi again guys! I hope your weekend was good and filled with wonderful eateries ;). I really enjoyed watching this video as you guys came to my area. My place is less than 10 minutes away from that restaurant, which does indeed serve one of the best Nasi Kukus in Petaling Jaya and KL. The next dish I think you should try is Soto. It's originally Indonesian but the Malaysian version has done some tweaks to it and when it's prepared well, it's truly heavenly. Alas, I am not sure which restaurant serves the best Soto , but perhaps the other viewers can put in their recommendmations for it.
