The classic baseball bat choke, from a closed guard position. You can hit this from all angles, this one is from the bottom, once you've pulled someone into a closed guard position. Let us know about your versions of this!
Fine explanation of a very useful choke. To these street fighters looking for a choke, I dont think this is for you though. This is for people that practice jui jitsu. The aggressor has to transition to side control to finish this choke. Awesome.
Great choke and I guess if you want to do the same thing in a no-gi situation then I think you got to do a gable grip. EIther way it would be great if yall could demonstrate a Baseball Choke in a No-Gi situation. I'd really appreciate that.
Let it be done! We'll do a vid, specially for you Mo! You're absolutely right there, you can do this NoGi with a gable grip, although it takes a little used too. We'll post it soon!
Please stop teaching this technique. I’m over 60 years old, been rolling for a couple of decades, and I consistently choke out people who are much better than me using this exact choke because they don’t know it and aren’t expecting it. It gets so tight, so fast and painless that on several occasions I’ve put people to sleep with it without them tapping (they didn’t know they were in trouble). It’s the single best technique I know and I’ve become super good at it from lots of positions. But let’s keep this one a secret, ok?
If someone puts ONE hand in my collar I know what they're going for, let alone two! Hahaha. Reckon I might catch a few people with this though.... never really considered going for it from closed guard.
Yeh true...but you could say the same for armbar, loop choke cross collar, sweeps... that's the point of a coach, to instruct their student. Their job is to spot things, for the benefit of their student... if they can't spot these things, maybe change coach! It's a spectator sport, people can all see what you're doing. If there is only one side watching you (i.e. the coach is usually allowed in a particular area of the mat) then maybe your strategy would be to hit this, so that the hand pointing upwards, is the hand, AWAY from the coach. the other hand (palm down) would just look like you're trying to control the persons posture. Either way, if a coach calls it, see how your opponent reacts, sometimes, they don't hear, sometimes they don't understand the coach and sometimes they don't know how to defend, so you may still be able to complete it. IF the person DOES defend it, change your tact, try something else, it could be that you change grips, so if the opponent goes over the leg that stays up, change your grips over quick enough - and you'll catch them going the other way. keep on rolling and let me know how you get on bro - Ad🤙
@@Kyoukenmma I do this one in class all the time, one of my profs taught me this years ago. I love seeing at first the look of hope and victory in the guy's eyes as he's passing over the leg I put down (thinking of me "is this guy stupid for letting his guard down?") and the 2nd look of surprise as he's getting choked. Most guys have caught on to this and stopped falling for it. In competition I tried it and his coach alerted him, as he started to pass, he put his chin down, framed up with his hands inside, and passed, I couldn't switch to something else, so I lost on points, no biggie. I agree, this is true for all moves, but with this one it's a baiting situation, it's hard to finish without him passing unless you hip out and get your leg through and spin. Anyway, cool vid, thnx!
Fun! Caveat, not a good idea to offer someone to pass your guard, and who knows how to counter the baseball choke (and see it obviously coming) in the pass, from a self defense and sports jits context.
I agree...but, there's always going to be a counter to a counter. This move definitely works, I've used it, literally hundreds of times. Does it work all the time? ...no. But likewise, not one single submission works 100% of the time bud. The important thing is to have ammo or something to use. It might not work, but then you move onto the next plan, whatever that might be. - Ad
Based in Andover, Hampshire buddy - but we train all over the country as Adam is a director for Great Britain Jujitsu, let us know which gym, maybe we could hook up one day and do some rollin' rollin' rollin'
A couple of things I suppose... one option is to (essentially) bench them off you or bridge and create the space you need. Another way of doing this is rather than thinking of it as rotating directly under their chest...bridge and move down their body, whilst rotating. This is hard to explain, without demonstrating. So - the choking arm - the one that is palm up, rather than moving it from ''6 o'clock to 9o o'clock'' - instead, bridge, sink your choking arm down their chest a little first, then rotate. Bridge, create space, move elbow slightly down their chest first, then rotate. The other reality is, that you may not be able to create space, because your opponent is too strong. Then, you'll have to change your tactic. If anyone tells you that 'this will definitely work', then they're lying to you. in the real world, some people can tolerate pressure more than others, some can't apply pressure the same way as someone else, some can react really quick, some can't, if you 'x' then 'y' can be done to stop it. It's ever changing, So in this scenario, the pressure may be too much, you may have to release the choking arm as it's just not working and you'll work the ghost escape...or you might release altogether can clamp the shoulder... or you might decide to recover guard and work something else or start again... you get the idea. send me a message on insta and I'll go through what I mean buddy, I've had lots of success with this particular move, it doesn't always work, but there are ways to try and improve your technique on it - happy to help as best I can - Ads - @ads_bjj_jujitsu
a lot of problems with your presentation, baseball choke is one of my favorite move, what you don't take into account here are the counters to the baseball choke and there are 4 that i know of : 1 Stopping the choking arm by putting downward pressure on the elbow and then blocking the choke with a kimura grip for example which puts you in a really bad spot now that you have offered the side control or even a worst position, 2 Crushing the head downward by framing on it hard makes you unable to finish the choke add a knee on the face and now it makes you unable to keep the same grips, 3 rolling on the opposite side of the choke, this one takes agility but it can be done final position for the defender isn't optimal though 4 is simply avoiding the intial grips which is pretty easy to do on this version. Now my spin on the baseball choke : First i always do it with a lapel grip and not a collar grip way harder to defend and feel way less threatening even for people who know the baseball choke, Second keep your head as close as possible to your opponent will make him unable to frame out of the choke, third to make him unable to stop the choke which he will only be able to do with his hands start the choke with a sweep attempt on the opposite side of your choking hand ! This will make your opponent base with his hand the other last solution that i found recently is to use your knees aiming for the biceps to try to trap them or at least make his hands away from your arms and then engaging the choke, once you want to engage, act very fast just keep it there until he taps he sleep or your hands burn out but the with the lapel firmly held into your hand this last option will most likely never happen.
I'd be interested to see how you do it, if you ever want to send a vid over? my Whatsapp +447951314857, feel free to ping my way. Just so you know, I didn't consider those things in this video... you are correct, but that's because it isn't a 'how to defend yourself from a baseball bat choke' vid. I do mention you can hit this from various other positions...but don't go into too many details about that either. If I did a video, that highlighted how to put 'x' on, then went through a multitude of defences, I'd then have to mention how to counter the counters... the video will go on and on and on. I don't disagree with you, by the way, the defence (like putting your hand through the middle) is so simple and effective, but this isn't a ''how to defend vid''. I'll do one though and yeah, the version you mention - ping away! love to see different variations and learn more about the art!
@@Kyoukenmma I'll try to do that, thank you for the video, there's a lot of moves and variations i don't have the slightest clue on but this submission i kind of practiced it a lot because i found it really fun and it's one of the first submission trap i learned so i messed with it quite a bit and got a good amount of failures with it too, one of my teachers prefered position to go for a baseball was knee on belly or knee on belly +lapel grip, the hand behind the collar at starting position makes it very unexpected but apart from that my message covered all i know of the gi version, but the NoGi version is something else and is very fun too, i will try to do a video on this choke that's a good idea thanks a lot !
