I had such a chill chat with Somto. I loved it! Enjoy!! Plus, in a year, this video will be a nice look at how we felt at the beginning of building our new lives in Lagos, Nigeria.
Hi Iveoma, I have just subscribed to your platform, and I really enjoyed watching all your videos. However, I am thinking of moving back to Nigeria, and I need more information on setting down. Please can you give me more information about joining the returning groups on whatsapp. Thanks.
Iveoma, thank you for this pleasant offering. I enjoy seeing women growing in love rather than tearing each other down. Are you planning to get licensed in Nigeria and practice law there?
First I am sorry I called you Ifeoma, I didn't have my reading glasses on so I thought I saw Ifeoma. Second, I do not need her SS number, I am a professional from Westampton, NJ doing great in terms of annual income, so you can turn your 419 antenna down. My curiosity arose from her accent hence the question. Being a Nigerian American and living over here I was trying to detect a bit of American accent from her but I could not, that was why, not that it matters. Just trying to detect authenticity.
@@sweetlemonade6925 Exactly I feel like it's our job as 1st gen to take everything that we learn in those western countries and use them as a tool to improve our country. This why I feel like its important for our parents to instill the importance of coming back home, learning our culture, and improving the country.
Me too, as a British Nigerian, am so ready to move back to Nigeria. My heart is not in the UK anymore and since my visit to Nigeria last year, I've been pinning so badly.
For me, an African American, the "Comfortable" feeling comes from not dealing with the trauma of racism like what is almost normalized in the states. In Lagos, classicism & misogynism (both contribute largely to poverty) are the isms that I recognized immediately as the most prominent oppressors.
After the George Floyd event , my priorities have changed. My sons need an alternative home. Am doubling my investment there. I don't want them to ever feel trapped in the west as an unwanted black man.
@Made in God's Image well I always thot I would go back but not mt kids. Fact is , kids from the west do struggle to function im the Africa environment. Its very different.
Gods own Son Last last Nigeria is my home, people have fought and worked hard to make their own countries better, better we start finding solutions, we won’t complain forever .. Nigeria and Africa is home..
@@fairfacttv8175 this is not true oo. See Africa is so good for parents to bond with their children unlike in the western countries where you work round the clock all in the name of paying bills and not having enough time to spend with them. Even if you don't have the time which is very rare, there are always family and friends to do that for you. Also, in Africa, children get to explore, know their culture/ traditions and play around due to how massive and how colourful the environments are. Haaa, the difference is very clear. Try it you will see that they won't want to leave. So many children that visit and enjoys it but, when it is time to leave, they throw tantrums.
I sure enjoy your interviews. It's funny when I was in Ghana in December 2019 I was interviewed and asked how did I like Ghana. I said I felt comfortable. It was a strange feeling of being comfortable in a new land. But that feeling is so missed and I long and pray everyday to return. I just recently got my DNA results back from African Ancestry and I am 100% Bamileke from Cameroon. That's an exciting feeling to know my tribe and my country
You are more acct. But most of us Re worried. Personally an co scorned how I. An MANAGE WITHOUT LIGHT and the idea of not going to placeyouwantto gowithout being afraid of one thing or the other. Nigeria is sweet and have warm citizens.but they dpnt bu have Security.Thsnk you. I have been thinking for years how am I going to do this please get back to me on WhatsApp sothatwe can be chatting Thank you.
Somto reminds me of Mary J Blige. I also have Nigeria in my heart since I was a child and know I need and want to move back but just don't know how. Can you give some advice ladies?
Visit first, this will help you in making a decision if you wanna visit every year or move. Getting a job is hard so come home to create job. All the best and it's a beautiful idea to come home.
@@feyial5755 , make sure you are working in US before you come, so you can easily got a job here. Organizations don't like giving jobs to people with gap in employment. All the best
Love the video ladies. I'm contemplating how I want to transition back to Nigeria. I'm a Nigerian American that hasn't been in Nigeria since I was a kid. Love all the Naija living videos I've been seeing on RU-vid. So proud of my country. Keeping fingers crossed for a visit in 2021/2022.
Loved this video! Can either of you speak Igbo and if not are you planning to learn and teach your children so that the Igbo language will not die out? I’m a German born Igbo Girl (now living in the U.K.)who’s parents had to stop speaking to me in igbo because I needed to learn English to go to the international school, so until 2019 I only spoke English and German. I plan to move to Enugu to live and I taught myself Igbo with a textbook called “Kwezuno!” (I CAN’T recommend this book enough) and a little help from my parents . In just 6 months- I am fluent. Please I’d love to see a video from the 2 of you on this topic :) I learnt Igbo at the age of 24 years old. I didn’t realise how EASY Igbo actually is until you start trying to learn.
Congrats on learning Igbo! I am learning now and my kids will speak Igbo :) I also have a video on my channel about this topic. Thank you for recommending the textbook Kwezuno too!!
So I'M WATCHING THIS AND THINKING naaaah woooowwww This is exactly what I need before I visit next month.. I'm visiting for a month by myself and have no clue what to expect. I've been to Africa as a child to Ghana and Sierra Leone (LOVED IT) and wanted to visit ever since.. but just didnt! I'm taking a leave from work to answer my spirit guides.. Naija is calling me for real! Thank you!
Really enjoyed this video love the vibe between the both of you. I can definitely relate I'm Jamaican but grew up in the US and can relate to that feeling of just feeling free and comfortable when you visit home. I have also visited Lagos twice and absolutely loved it! People are just so kind and welcoming. There is always something to do. Patiently waiting for this covid situation to be under control so I can visit again lol
Thank you so much!! Yup @ Free and comfortable when you go home!! Girl I am waiting for this Covid thing to end so I can go out here too and meet people.
Just came across your channel and subscribed straight away. Love your content about moving back to Nigeria cos I've been thinking of that lately. I'm British born, but would love to move to Nigeria soon. Your channel is a lifeline 💕💕💕
Thanks ladies for this beautiful interview. I always have this fear of going back home due to many videos have watched regarding moving back. You gave me courage and positive vibes.
Africa is future, Africa is next frontier. I am planning now to move back to the Continent, after twenty seven years of unbelievable stress, Comfort and day to day unfinished bills. There nothing Like Africa, when you have your own house, and little investment. You will have quality of life, without stress. Worries and all such problem we encounter as immigrant in western world. The human Social structure is the worst nightmare in western world. Your always on your own world, not like African Continent. Where communal way of life, still exist
Yes Communal way of life still exist but has been partially eroded by westernization. Most Africans now think individualism due to effect of poverty induced by poor or shady Government directly and indirectly imposed by western powers. Most African Govt are forced into economic policies that only favor the west. What's happening in Africa is largely a spiritual battle for those who understand but it seems now winding down with recent events of more African Americans beginning to return to motherland. Western Civilization has reached it's pinnacle with all kinds of decadence manifestation.
It’s that COMFORTABLE feeling that I get whenever I’m in Nigeria ( from the airport) that I try so hard! to explain to my children and a few friends here in the Uk. Can’t wait to finally move back home before it’s too late...
You have a great personality: Simple, jovial and interesting. Happy to have y'all back. I should move back soon as well. You both look and sound so happy! Very inspiring and encouraging.
African American here, love love this video you guys should get together and start a private tour company , it has been my dream to visit but I’ve heard so many negatives and scary things . A lot of us have done the DNA kits and have discovered that ancestry began there. and would probably pay top dollar to visit in an organized manner. Because you ladies grew up here in America it would probably go a long way , just a thought but just looking at you ladies chat stirred something in me . Good luck to you both:-)
Wow loved the word u said u feel comfortable bless u sweet no place like home no matter the set back of lack of development of a good road one day Nigeria will get there with our new generation of young ppl coming back to there mother's land to educate more ppl mindet! And by building the hospitals Doctors and nurses etc coming back home to help..you guys are doing so well one fail when u don't try to live your dreams am so happy for both steps u both took Lots of love from me to u guy u are strong ladies 💞💞💞💞
Greetings Sista! I am also from the US , North Carolina to be exact . I moved to Kumasi Ghana April of 2021 & lived there for 8 months. I am planning to come to Nigeria December 2023. I would love to connect with both of you Sistas ,if you don"t mind
I am so proud of you guys.africa is rising and this this moment for his sons and daughters abroad to bring home their expertise. Because lot of westerners and asians are moving to the continent at record number, even though the mainstream media don't talk about it. If nothing is done, we will end up in the same situation as in South Africa, where foreigners control everything.I happy to hear that Iveona is not yet married. It means I still have a chance.
Happy to watch this video.I was in USA for some yes. We hope you will actually know us. We like to help women a lot. Don't be disappointed at some of us.
If you really want to know about your skin visit Nigeria , that fresh glow from the first sun on your skin when you depart the plane is some thing no body lotion can do
I appreciate watching your videos. It’s good to know this information. I married my Nigerian King 🤴 a four months ago 🤣☺️🤗. We currently reside in Atlanta Georgia. We plan to visit Nigeria hopefully by Thanksgiving 2021. And I hope I fall in love with Lagos like I imagine I will because this is where my husband was raised and his family still lives there. I would Love to eventually buy properties in Lagos for when we visit and to rent some to rent out but am not sure which parts are best. I l have learned a lot from your video though. Thanks and stay bless and safe.
I could frame this image. See beauty, 2 lovely ladies lounging on a pretty couch, melanin popping, vibing on high quality gist. I AM moving there & will enjoy joining your gist. Trust you will enjoy me too. THIS IS Lagos Life. How often do we get to build & nurture friendships in the Western world? Also I agree with "Don't Rush". I always do market research before I commence career moves. I feel its a great idea to take some time to observe current local demographics on ground. Businesses that Supply Demands succeed. "Don't just do it anyhow" they say.
Nice @ moving back!! Very exciting. Sure @ gist. Hanging out with Somto was definitely a vibe. Yup @ don't rush. I tell everyone this!! So important to do market research and observe.
Iveoma, I am loving your content! So glad I've come across this video... especially now. I've been considering moving to Nigeria, from the US, for quite some time. This video has been very informative and helped me plan, create pros/cons list and continue praying about this decision. So big thanks to you!
Why haven’t I seen your channel all this while ? So subscribing, I’m planning on moving back to Nigeria. And please what WhatsApp group for returnee is that?
I'm watching this video because I want to move back...my plane leaves next Friday! I'm married to a Nigerian, we met online, we also spoke every single day as often as we could. I also flew in to make sure it was real. This will be my second time to Lagos and I also felt very comfortable! No White police hunting us down, not being afraid of getting pulled over and praying you survive it. Surrounded by people who look like me was so...UNBELIEVABLE. I saw five Chinese people one day at a remote beach in Ibeshe...that was it. Not that there isn't oppression in Nigeria...but it's not the same as being oppressed by other people, who really hate you just because of the color of your skin. We started a business in Nigeria as well.
I really enjoyed yours, truly do, quite motivating and inspiring.. The main take for me from you ladies has to be individual state of mind before venturing into this project, but then ladies are mentally stronger than men. I don't think I can drive in that Lagos until I saw yours, thought I need an injection through my forehead for a brain reset, but you've unknowingly encourage some of us. Home is where the heart is, just not sure what to do routinely, however yours has given me good induction, take each day as it comes. Nice work.. Will pray Romeo comes sooner than later too..lol
I'm about ready to leave the Western world behind. From the Caribbean little fulfilment with certificates, comfy job, I feel as If I would be happier there when I get married in Nigeria in 2021. Let me keep watching
I'm black american but my ancestors are of igbo decent most black ppl in america ancestors are igbos bought over here it's just that ghana is popin right now so l might have to visit there...
Honestly this video was very enlightening for me , loved every bit of it , in the same situation as you , but everyday something is stopping me and then i change my mind . Im single , no kids & want to use this opportunity now to explore my culture more . Im just scared about not fulfilling my business plans then reaching to a stage where i have nothing and then ending up moving back to the UK 🇬🇧
I completely understand! I think many people who move back have this fear of failing. I sat down and wrote out my fears and wrote down all the worst scenarios but after reading it I realized the worst scenario is never trying and having regret.
Loved it with the accents. As women you guys a going to get a lot of help. But like Iveoma enjoy the ride take things slow be vigilant. I guess you will be doing a lot of historical research. You will need it. I live in the UK. Cheers
Question that's very important. What kind of job will one be doing to have 100k NAIRA for comfortable living . To me This is high class living that is not for a regular Joe with high school diploma educated person .
Great question. I would have to investigate. I am thinking big companies though? Many multinationals corporations offer decent salaries but you have to have more than a high school diploma.
Hello Iveoma. Thanks so much for your blog. I am an American planning to move back to Nigeria in 2004. Is there a Whatsapp group for Americans planning to move to Nigeria?
Hi Iveoma, I have just subscribed to your platform, and I really enjoyed watching all your videos. However, I am thinking of moving back to Nigeria, and I need more information on setting down. Please can you give me more information about joining the returning groups on whatsapp. Thanks.
I have watched EVERYONES video about moving to Nigeria. I have made the decision to move and cannot wait time meet other expats who have come to the same conclusion. Do you know of any website’s or social groups to meet expats? I need a - how to make a friend in Naija - hook up..
Do Africans really know the true reality of Black Americans and how we lost our connection to Africa? When she says your were born in America. We had no choice to be there. We are American. We lost everything Africa. Some of us are trying to find our way back. Looking at this longer. It seems as if you are an immigrant of Africa and not part of the diaspora.
@@afolabiakinola2301 In terms of how Nigerian men show relational interest and/or settling down for marriage. Not saying it's a bad thing, it's just culturally different. Men in America aren't as quick to present marriage as fast. Why do you believe Nigerian men are best in the world? There are good and bad men everywhere.
Oh yes the water problem ... the fanta water .... we also had that horrible experience , plus the plumber didn't really want to fix anything he only wanted money again and again with a very bad attitute.
What is the ratio of men's and women's I mean is like in the United States 25 women's to everyone man. I know I've seen a lot of good-looking Nigerian men's on Tik Tok.
I would love to come and experience the whole of Africa but there's one thing that I dont like is that we have to get shots like yellow fever and I dont do those stuff. There's a travel group from Africa, not sure which part that told me this.....is that true? Do we must get the shots to enter?
There are some African countries that don’t require people flying directly from the US to have yellow fever shot. South Africa, Kenya for example. Or you can wait and get a waiver once you are over the age of 60.
@@IveomaMedia Thanks so much for your response, I'll look into it, however am not from the US. I am from the Caribbean. lolllll wait after 60😄😄 you crack me up...
