When out of possession Verlinden will almost always drift to the half spaces or the line where he can be isolated with a defender. This allows him to be able to take him on 1v1.
When the ball is on the opposite side of the pitch he will look to stay really far wide before driving inside with pace off the backside of the defender and get onto a through ball or cross. He will also sometimes just stay wide to pull the defender and make more space in the middle for his teammates.
