An interesting/weird interaction with Protect I learned a little while ago. While the move Wide Guard doesn’t have a fail chance, however if you use Wide Guard then use Protect the turn after that, Protect is more likely to fail as if you went for a double Protect.
I have read somewhere before that the reason toxic being an universal move was because the move itself made by humans and designed to be usable for every pokemon
"Your dads a writer & you cant tell the difference between the period & a comma?" "Uh they do look pretty similar." I knew I wasnt the only one😂 Great banter as always.
So about Gender based mechanics there was a bit in VGC where Enamorus Incarnated was actually seeing some play and would prefer to run Cute Charm for its ability over Contrary since it doesn't have any way to make use of Contrary itself and is a special attacker so it couldn't use the boost off your opponent's Intimidate so ya at this point in time just incase you ran into an Enamorus you would want your pokemon to be female since Enamorus is 100% Female
Smogon has a similar case as well. If Enamorus wants to use Calm Mind, Cute Charm is mandatory for that set too. It's primarily running that ability to avoid using Contrary and making Calm Mind useless. So female Pokemon are also optimal in singles metagames that include Enamorus. That's why I included a note saying that these cases do exist, but they're the exception rather than the rule
Loved the video! I always found it weird that so many Pokémon learned toxic, but I'm kinda sad to see it removed from so many move sets, because it was always such a fun option to use. Also, it's Chipman with an I, not Chapman. Love you guys!
You're not wrong but doesn't it also get double edge? Its way better off for having Facade but it can still deal high damage without it, it just won't stick around for more than two turns
true...but that ends up being a "tera sink" when your tera could have been used on something else instead of making flareon Tera Normal...man poor flareon can never catch a break
personally...I'm fine with the distribution of Toxic being as nerfed as it was starting in BDSP where it's now almost exclusively learned by poison types with some exceptions (ferrothorn, mandibuzz, bellossom, breloom, quagsire, accelgor, hypno, umbreon, dudunsparce, gliscor, shuckle, houndoom, spiritomb, zoroark, goodra, trevenant, bellibolt, toedscruel, pyukumuku, seismitoad and terapagos) but would be nice if chestnaught got access to the move again, sure a number of various defensive mons lost toxic...but im cool with it not being universal
9:34 It’s because all creatures have germs, bacteria, or something that an opponent might not want. Hell, human bites can be extremely deadly/toxic because of how much bacteria is in our mouths. Before gen 8, if you don’t include Pokémon that can learn toxic once they evolve, only gimmicky Pokémon that are like Smeargle (only learns sketch), Magearna (a medical robot), Unown (only learns Hidden Power), and Wynaut and Wabbofett can’t learn toxic. I’m sure I missed a few, obviously.
4:50 Attract is also good for this reason, since battle sims tend to set gender to male. Change all your mons to female and suddenly your attracts have a higher success rate than on average
There are a surprising amount of gimik Pokémon that sent suposed to have the same moves as others, remember when shedinja was like the most op gimik Pokémon ever?
yeah if it wasn't for TM's, so many as you said would be cursed with horrific move pools (electric would especially suffer without TM's since almost every electric type would be stuck with normal and electric moves)
Wait if toxic was an(almost) universal move does it mean (almost)every pokemon is poisonous? Or maybe only in the multiverse of gen 1-7 and then we enter another multiverse where they are not in gen 8-9
yeah some moves i felt like could have stayed like Return/Frustration and Signal Beam sure i can understand Hidden Power getting removed as it doesn't seem to work well with the last 2 gimmicks we've had (Dynamax and Tera), but there are some they could have kept but they also axed a number of moves that where honestly far too gimmicky to ever be useful like Rototiller or Powder
7:19 i know occasionally if I use a speed boost mon I normally have either calm mind or bulk up IN ADDITION TO protect/detect depending on when I send in my mon and what i send it in against
@@MEPlaysGames Ledian is such a sad Pokémon. How do you make such a neat design and concept but give it simultaneously the worst typing, stats spread and strangest moveset they could have possibly thought of
yup, in gen 8 Return was one of many moves that got axed, which sucks cause Return was such a good move, and now the options for physical normal moves is quite shallow as it's just body slam, facade or double-edge
