The 'slow' beginning is full of character and when Lee Remick comes on screen it catches fire. The ending was absolutely fantastic and brilliant and mysterious.
Hi I'm a 'Joe Doe' from Liverpool, England and I've subscribed to ur channel as ur review of this sublime film was, in my eyes 'top notch' and gave it the high marks and praise it totally deserved and still has the power 63yrs later which is high praise in itself and only a few classics have that deserved designation, in my humble opinion! I had heard about G.C.Scotts' opinion of the Oscars but still don't no for what reason? Oh and Patten is a great film which too deserves high praise but just under the awards of this film, even tho they're not at all similar!! Keep up the good work my friend and we'll keep on enjoying ur reviews!!
I too felt the ending was just "well we put one over the prosecutors and the court --now let's go to Disneyland". The court room drama was definitely intense and that maybe why that ending --the raging storm is over and now tranquility.
I just finished watching this movie and it was an amazing experience altogether but the ending was just not it for me. I hurried to youtube to find out if I have missed anything important for feeling this way!
The ending was appropriate in context. Lt Manio is something of a sociopath although probably a good junior officer in a combat situationHe abuses his admittedly flirtatiously wife. He probably knew exactly what he was doing when he killed the "Barney", but think the testimony of Katherine Grant makes it most likely that Lee Remick's character was raped. Manion is just the type of guy who would stiff his lawyer who got him off on a murder charge. No conscience, not even a sense of gratitude,
I've always loved this movie I've watched it many times. I'm in the middle of watching it right now again I'm just taking a break to cook my food. I think your 4 1/2 stars are fair and accurate
Depending on your point of view, we have grown decadent as a people. It wasn’t as common for people to say words like “bitch,” “rape,” “panties,” “cum,” “ejaculation,” “slut.” Now you can’t go twenty miles without hearing those... or racist rapist, etc. Almost everyone uses profanity.
