Just the first thirty seconds brought back a rush of memories and emotions from my childhood! I'm sorry for, what probably seems like, over-reacting but these were Such Golden Times to me! God Bless You for showing these!!!
I agree with you, I was a kid and a TV buff, grew up watching all of this, the Golden Times were always the best, I've been through so much as an adult that I hate it, why did I ever have to grow up? +JAMESD5573
JAMESD5573 I'm feeling you James, it's so deep with me i actually have tears running down my face, just remembering fun times, my parents and grandparents were alive, having fun with close friends which alot of them are no longer here, I have much love for FredFlix going through all his hard work putting these awesome memories together for us. 👍💯❤
blankets spread out on the carpet in front the tv . a big green Tupperware bowl of popcorn . mom and dad on the couch . lights off , and the tv movie on .
That first movie intro music in the beginning really stands out to me from the past. I think it comes from a song Burt Bacharach wrote called "Nikki". The memories. :)
Back in the Seventies, just those introductory fanfare bits of music, and the way they rose to a crescendo, were enough to garner the attention, because you knew that there was going to be a fun or gripping film experience coming your way. Yeah, the movies were edited for content and for time, and there were a bunch of commercials--- but it was often the best of what was on teevee that evening. Fun to see these promotional reels!
I do remember that promo for the TV movie "But I Don't Want to Get Married". Seeing it now I can't help but think " Seriously? People were expected to think women who look like Tina Louise and Shirley Jones would want to marry a man who looked like Herschel Bernardi? 😂
maybe ABC should go back to movies of the week , Bring back the abc sunday night movie they might get better rating Then all the show low rating they tried on sunday nights .
You may be thinking, so what, the movie of the week. Back in the '70s this was a real big deal. There were 3 networks and the whole country tuned in at the same time to watch these usually high quality films.
Burt Reynolds' wig! Also, really hits you how here today-gone tomorrow is fame. Stars that we thought were lasting, and movies too (The Deep was supposed to be the next Jaws), and they just fade. Even someone like Paul Newman, who seemed a classic movie star, really has all but faded from today's memory, with the exception of Cool Hand Luke maybe.
I remember all of these promos for movies. One question though, what is it about 1970s movies that were shot in color and have now turned into nothing but browns and oranges?
ddoyle11 There's a video on RU-vid of a concert of Bert Kaempfert orchestra in Germany from 1967, the premier of color tv in Europe, where the color is a fresh as it was when video taped.
If I remember what a film collector told me, It's a chemical reaction due to aging. The color stock fades if the film isn't properly stored. I'm not sure how long the color lasts even if it is properly stored, but I'm do believe it's just a breakdown as the film gets older.
Man do I miss those times, today’s overpriced streaming and cable monopoly can not compare to what we use to watch and enjoy for free ! Today ‘s programming are too political and woke . No cell phones no high tech , just simple entertainment with no bloody ugly shock value $$ garbage! Bring back some old fashioned shows 😅
I cannot understand why ABC CBS NBC, don't bring these back exactly as they were even with the original ads. I can guarantee they would slaughter the rating if they did a one night a week return to 1970. Well bless RU-vid for at least letting us get a few memories
I just pray they’re well preserved somewhere and one day somebody will have the brilliance to create a streaming service for them. I’d pay a lot to have quality access to them… esp the early 80s thrillers! I mean, I’d like to have them on DVD, but then I’d need an extra basement. 😂
Tuesday Movie of the Week intro was created by *Douglas Trumbull*. He did the special effects for 2001, Blade Runner, and Brainstorm. Everyone should have seen the similarities!
VHS tape killed broadcast films. Before you could rent or own old movies, the only way you could see them were on network TV. It was great for the film owners, who could wring a little more money from a title, and the networks who could attract viewers with content that was less costly than new production. ABC was a bit different in that they added to the mix by paying to produce in- house films for its "Movie of the Week" series (many of which were very good despite their limited budgets.) It also didn't hurt that until the late seventies, the three networks had no real competition for viewers.
The first time we saw DUEL starring Dennis Weaver , at the most exciting climax the local station went blank. WREX Rockford got so many irate phone calls that they pre-empted the 10 pm news that night to show the end of it. (It was an ABC Saturday night movie.)
Fun Fact, the TV show The Hulk had an episode called "Never Give a Trucker an Even Break" where they used tons of stock footage from Duel. Literally used movie footage in the TV show to put their story together. look it up, pretty funny.
Each night ABC presents a James Bond film, the first thing you hear is a gravelly voiced announcer; "Tonight's feature contains scenes which maybe unsuitable for children. Parental discretion is advised".
Mr. Flix, thank you sir for taking the time to produce this stuff. The memories it brings back to me are priceless. As they say in the south pre shate cha.
Another great one with lots of wonderful memories - too young to see many of the made for tv movies (though I did get to see Duel) except for The Over the Hill Gang movies. Can't see "Airport" without laughing at the jokes of "Airplane".
Today you couldn't pull stuff off like this, because there aren't enough competent young actors to do roles like this on TV. ABC puts more stock in The Bachelor, showing game shows at night, and endless mindless reality shows. Even the late night talk shows are all garbage. Carson and Letterman will never be duplicated in popularity. There's no creativity in tv anymore. These types of entertainment will never come back.
ABC became my favorite network because of the Movies of the Weeks and creating their own TV and movie stars. I wanted to be an actor as a teen and thought these intros where amazing. I would collect the intro and previews on cassette tape to listen to them later. Good times.
I hope y’all will reply to this I’d like to have Airport will I like it?????….it’s one of Dean Martin’s movies I haven’t seen and I love Dean Martin…..I’d like Saturday night Fever huh?????!!!…I like the songs that were in the film disco 🕺
I remember one of the movies ABC ran as a Movie Of The Week had to do with some sort of earthquake that ended up trapping a group of subway riders. The movie had to do with all of these people trying to escape further dangers, but everywhere they went, there was something blocking the way out to street level. I was maybe 6 and it scared the crap out of me! Generally, I recall we watched a LOT of these ABC movies.
Thanks great memories of being a kid in the 70's this was my network for watching movies 6:54 The Sunday and Friday night movie Theme from mid 70's until early 1982. That is my favorite theme or intro in ABC's movies love the music Great movies then Great video
Color fades out of film by chemical breakdown, but how does it fade out of video? I've even rented DVDs of 80s movies that have the kind of color loss you see in some of these videos. I'm old enough to remember when these movies were new, so I know they didn't look like that originally. Otherwise, great video.
wasn't there one called 'the black widow???' . . . and what's the one i remember where a voodoo coven was putting a curse on that woman sleeping in a bannister bed then all of a sudden a black python appeared under her bed & kills her?? i totally remember watching these as a child, and of course, "deep dark secret of harvest home," stepford wives, etc. the best was "stranger in my house," starring linda blair, bar none, where she plays a witch--i still love that movie!! . . .
I’m from Brooklyn New York and remember all these great 1970’s run titles from a time when network television was king....part of me will always miss the great graphics But as the movie buff I am now I don’t think that I could ever go back to watching epics like cleopatra and Ben Hur in square screen format with commercial interruptions.
I think it was more going into the 90s, as I can remember the first time I saw Aliens was on a CBS Sunday Night Movie in 89. I was only 5 at the time. I also remember the first time that I saw a bit of Poltergeist for the first time was on an ABC broadcast my mom was watching one night
Truly a trip down memory lane. Miss childhood of staying up late to hear these intros before a classic movie. How can we get this on TV now please???!!!???
