Phillip Jackson she was not hypnotized. She was in on it, that's there family business, and they even did that to help the grandparents live longer. Idk how you got the idea that her and the brother were hypnotized. They're as much bat shit crazy as their parents the people they serve their "product" to.

when Chris was talking to that blind guy outside he said he wasn't like the other people at the party (racist). he also said it again when he was telling Chris what was going to happen to him in the basement. he said please do not group me into that group I could care less what race you are I just want to see. This could be telling the audience that being silent on racism because it's not effecting you or is overtly benefiting you is still a form of racism. Also the blind guy was using cognitive dissonance by saying no i am not like that racist group. Just how like white america used cognitive dissonance to help justify slavery because it was benefiting them. You can still see this used today when unarmed black males are killed at a higher rate then armed white males. People say well that black man should of put his hands up, not ran, "black on black crime" is more of an issue,etc.
@Sweatersss
@Sweatersss 7 лет назад
Exactly, he was blind to his own racism, because he didn't actively hate black people yet he still had no problem benefitting from racism.

He definitely represented those "I don't see color/I'm color-blind" ass people. Those ones who say they aint racist or don't see race, but legit covertly, if not overtly, contribute to the oppression of Black people and other poc.

Rose acted her ass off - I kept thinking of ways her family kept this from her esp after her defense of Chris with the cop...but when she told Chris - "you know I can't give you the keys baby" - I almost fell out of my seat - she was COLD. And he was so sprung, he still didn't want to believe it and couldn't even kill her after all that!

Carmen Pearson I knew something was up with Rose once they made it to her family's house. Like how can you act so nonchalant of all the weird shit that was going on. Your mother wanted to hypnotize your bf on the first day of meeting him & then the family maid keeps tryna let your bf's phone go dead.

I think I learned a few things by watching this movie. 1) I am incredibly naive. Even when I saw the pictures she had with the old boyfriends, I literally still thought okay she has to be hypnotized because she seems to really love Chris. I realized that she represented the modern day racist. She's the person that'll make a life with you but still in the back of her mind say racist shit because she truly thinks nothing of you. She was attractive, seemed to be "seeing" the subliminal racist shit done to Chris and was "appalled" but in the back in her mind is screaming, "I agree!". 2) Racist white people secretly admire black people. Why else would they choose to be US in their next life? Why would they choose to be something they despise? It's truly a contradiction. You'll be us in your next lives but no you won't integrate us into your family, you'll treat us like the slaves you think we should be by relegating your own mother and father to a MAID and a GARDENER that you get to boss around however you see fit. Why? To save face! Because two black people couldn't possibly be part of your family. 3) Chris represents a lot of black people in America. We'll see the subtle racism and instead of calling someone out on it, we sit back and let it ride while they try to find anything they consider black to talk about. I think a lot of people just try to see the good in it and say oh well at least their trying. When in fact, they are actually enforcing every stereotype that THEY came up with. 4) Best point: The family and neighbors were LIBERALS. They are the people you'd never expect to be racist. They weren't red necks. They were educated, talked about black issues, brought people over to meet there daughters black boyfriend albeit snubbing him the whole time. I think this movie showed you that racists can come in all faces.

This movie also demonstrated so many fears. The fear of the health care system (surgery and psychiatry) because those two things have been used to harm black people historically. The Father was a surgeon. The Mother was psychiatrist who understood hypnosis.

I'm watching Get Out for the second time and it just stuck out to me that Rose and her family really wanted Chris to stop the smoking habit so he could be as healthy as possible due to the organ harvesting that they were planning the entire time in the movie. I might be stretching it a little bit, but that's something to think about LOL. I got a little annoyed at the scene with the Asian guy, who asked the question about what are the advantages and disadvantages for being an African American in the modern world? That was symbolic to show you that Asians feel more superior than black folks and feel like they are equivalent to whites. Also, the scene were the TSA and Rose were on the phone talking about Chris going missing had me like WTF because she goes on to say the TSA wanted to f*** her. White women have this mindset that everyone wants them because they are on a pedestal (as a trophy). Rose played on that. Chris ignored all the red flags throughout this entire movie out of love and respect for Rose. She manipulated the hell out of him to get him where she wanted him. Key word: Mind control, but that's off topic. When she struggled to pull out those keys after she stopped at the middle of the stairs, I knew she was full of it. I really enjoyed this movie. It's a wake up call for everybody!

Rose flipped the script and did not have any remorse on what she did, she was searching for NBA prospects for her family's fucked up project, eating fruit loops and drinking white milk separately (cause she is to racist to even eat colored food and white milk together) while listening to " Ive had the time of my life" With her straight perfect posture and perfect little life!

That reference Rose's dad made about deers was like how he basically felt about black people. Rod is the man I need in my life he is a true ride or die and he told us the plot line from the very beginning "they brainwashing black dudes and using then as sex slaves" he stay it twice too like damn.

Great review. I saw the movie as an macrocosm of our society. How advertisers trigger us into the sunken place and we find ouselves trapped, buying stuff we don't need, getting into debt, and having so little regard for the value of life. It's as though we're trapped and have lost contact with our humanity. Our society must GET OUT of our low conciousness and rise to a higher plane of understanding and compassion for one another.

This movie has me soooooo gah damn shook oh em gee!! Great review Ashley! You're absolutely correct Rose did not want a paper trail and that's why she was adamant that the cop couldn't check Chris' license. Also, Rose was strategic in preying after an orphan with no extended family or siblings. That way nobody would even be looking for him. Did you notice those Omega statues in front of the property? That was a symbol meaning 'The End.' This movie was sooooooooo freaking good! The Bingo slave auction was the creepiest scene I can't get it out of my mind. Really good underlying message about Eugenics and black people's organs being superior and extremely valuable in the black market. I could literally go on and on if you let me! So freaking good!!

This movie is so layered and powerful. One thing about Get Out that really spoke to me was near the end after Rose is no longer hiding who she really is. Notice something about the crazy way she is eating the cereal (Fruit Loops, cause she crazy!). Rose has separated the COLORED cereal from her WHITE milk. And she is SUCKING the Big Black Straw to elevate the white milk upward as she destroys the colored cereal One By One. Also, now that she's not hiding who she really is, she proudly displays the pictures of all her victims on her wall. They are behind her as she searches the Internet to find her next victim. When you look at her search results, she's looking for a big, Black athlete. Made me immediately think of the Kardashian family and how they destroy every man they come in contact with One By One. And how do they get them? What made them famous in the first place? The ability of the daughter to suck the big, Black straw and lure them into THEIR world. As Arsenio Hall used to say, "Things that make you go 'Hmmmmm'." :o)

That's the real Georgina (the black woman in the sunken place) who opened it, you see how weird she was? She the only one who didnt need no flash to be herself for little moments, in one of those moments she opened the cubby so Chris could see the pictures and get out

Someone said that the tea being stirred is a symbolism for when we get some "tea" on someone we get hypnotized and sucked in and forget about what is really important. Like listening to the tea about remy and what's her name...got all sucked into that tea not realizing you'll president signed a new travel ban.

Anyone else noticed the small door in the room with the photos was open the first night he was there? You know how a cat sometimes toys with a mouse before eating it? That's what that b*tch Rose was doing. She wanted him to find the photos. I saw that movie twice. I just may see it a third time JUST to see the family get killed again.

Wasn't this movie great? Peele subverted expectations on how he tackled racism and made it feel organic. It was a fresh take on the horror genre with top notch acting, social commentary, and some genuinely funny moments. Rod was the man. And this movie had some great visuals too! The sunken place bit was so well filmed. Glad you enjoyed it!

Jordan made the movie the way he did cause it's meant to be watched several times. You don't pay attention to a lot of the details 1st time watching it ,just like other movies. Everything you said Ash I already knew ,but I'm going this week. Loved the review. I'm actually going to buy the DVD. I'M GOING TO WATCH IT AGAIN IN THE THEATRE COME TIME FOR THE NEXT SHOWING 😉😆😅

Ok, so these comments got me thinking about that scene with Georgina and how she kept unplugging Chris's phone. Maybe that was symbolizing the content Blacks or "Uncle Toms" trying to keep other Blacks from being "woke" or trying to make them accept what's going on by keeping them disconnected from the outside world. Or keeping them from exploring or learning more about what's really going on. Omg, I'm bad at explaining things but do somebody get me lol or can explain it better

OHH I did notice that the reason they wanted to use black people is because of those stereotypes that "black don't crack" (this implies that Rose grandmother can live thru this young black woman and can still be youthful for years to c come) and black men are more athletic and fit naturally (for Rose grandfather who in his youth was bested by a black man in the Olympics) very deep but still another form of that silent racism that alot of people don't believe they are perpetuating

I just finished watching this! I did NOT know they were having a silent auction. I couldn't figure that part out so Thank You!! It was really quite good! I'm so glad they had his friend for comedic relief because my nerves were really bad. It was very Stepford Wifey.

Goat from Ruthless Reviews. I liked your take on the movie. Congrats on not being distracted by the fringe social implications that so many reviewers have fallen for. It was a movie. It was a very good movie and you communicated a great understanding of what Jordan Peele accomplished in this film. Your insight into the movie was quite complete and I congratulate you on a great video. One hallmark of a great movie review is to translate your own enthusiasm and enjoyment of the movie, and you did this very well. Thanks for it. You made me smile in my remembrance of this finely crafted movie.

I love the discussions and theories people are bringing up, this movie has me obsessed lol. @EbeFrimpong made some good observations on twitter that I found interesting: 1. The guests kept probing Chris with random questions to see if he would be suitable for their needs and would be worth bidding on. Eg; when the old man asked him "Show me your golf stance" 2. "Bingo" was a signal for Rose to take Chris out the house so the silent auction could begin 3. The mom didn't want Jeremy play fighting with Chris because they wanted him in good condition for the auction. That's also why they were so persistent with his smoking 4. At one point Georgina says, ''Trust me, I don't have to answer to anyone''... yeah because it's her house 5. At the start of the movie the dad talks about how much hatred he feels for the deers (reflecting how racists feel about black people) - It's ironic that he was also killed by what he hated (Deer/Black guy) 6. Black people have to act a certain way in the presence of white folks, talk differently... essentially we're all in the 'Sunken Place' 7. When Chris and Georgina were talking and she starts crying, that's the real Georina fighting to Get Out but grandma says ''no no no''

I just got back from seeing Get Out again because of the comment you made that Rose didn't want Chris to give his id to the cop because she didn't want Chris in the system. I didn't even think about that reason. Nice catch! There are other stuff I caught the second time seeing it. Get Out is like The Sixth Sense because things made more sense after watching them a few more times.

Just watched this Ashley. I didn't think too much about the Cop wanting to see Chris's drivers license. Was thinking it was because of the cop being an asshole and not happy to see a biracial couple together. Now, I see why Rose was arguing with him. Also, at the party there's an older couple and the wife walks up to Chris and starts feeling of his arms. "Oh, you are muscular."..just like slave owners would do when deciding what slave to bid on. This movie should be watched more than once cause there's so much to miss.

so to me this movie has a double meaning. I think this movie not only touches on racism but it also talks about cultural appropriation. I say that because the part in the movie when they talked about how black is kind of like in fashion and also how they want to take apart of black people's natural abilities.... just a theory not saying that is a fact.

I know the brothers in this movie were mirrored in real life with these Becky's OK I get that. The Becky chasers deserved this needling (wake up call). I do have one question, what was the relationship with the black women? Sisters, do YOU need to examine your relationships with the Becky's also? LOL.

I forget what instrument they showed the brother playing when they were all outside after the party, (I was wondering why they showed that bit) but did the brother have the other black dudes brain that was at the party? Cause when they googled him they said he was a jazz player that was missing. I never hear ppl touch on him that much in their reviews. Man, this movie is insane lol
